We having OSB 10.4 on Solaris 10 with SL 24 TL Auto loader ( Tapes doesn't having Bar-code ), while firing file system backup (Sol 10 is the client OS) , it is hanging . and i have logged in to TL console then it shows loading and unloading. while OSB catalog backup is getting fired on the associated media family.
We are exploring Oracle Secure Backup in our environment as legato networker alternative. But RMAN backup in OSB is very slow due to sbt wait event (sbtwrite2). it can backup 5GB/hour. We think this not normal behavior. we have checked network throughput between media server and client server. It can send 50 GB data by 30 min.
We have OSB 10.44 installed on 64 Bit Red Hat OS. Is working pretty fine with a Virtual Library that is configured in an Storage Box. Now we have acquired a Physical Storage and we want to duplicate the backups already taken by the Virtual Library into the new Physical Library.
We have 20 drives for the VTL and for the physical we are planning to have the same to duplicate all backups from VTL. That is being done in case Emergency Failures, so we can restore from Physical Library in case the VTL fails.
The question is: Is there any documentation on how to do duplicate backups.?
The duplicate backups copy wont be done in real time. They will be done after the backup is finished in the VTL and then will start the copy in the physical library.
We are trying to use the SFTp transport in OSB 11g. Did the setup as mentioned in the documentation.The SFTP server is hosted on linux machine and using the user password mechanism.
We are reading a file using the ftp adapter and routing to the business service that is based on sftp.The file is picked up properly by proxy but while sending the file through SFTP, we are facing the following error.At the source and destination ends, the directories have the full permissions as required.
BEA-381801

Oracle Back up is showing library Dell PS 6100E as unsupported device and can not retrieve any information from it, can not ping and can not verify both from obtool and web tool. Using Linux. I can ping from outside and see the device config using lsscsi. But obtool and webtool fails. Is it really unsupported ? In the
$ORACLE_Backup_Home/device/device_robots I see some PV122T, PV124T
We would like to used Oracle secure backup using SAS interface on an IBM Autoloader Model TS-2900. Would it be possible to configure oracle secure backup using SAS?
Today I found myself in a situation where I needed to compress an already existing, partitioned index. First I issued an alter table to rebuild and compress the whole index:
SQL> ALTER INDEX MY_INDEX REBUILD COMPRESS;
ERROR at line 1:ORA-14086: a partitioned index may not be rebuilt as a wholeSo next I tried to rebuild compress one of the partitions:
SQL> ALTER INDEX MY_INDEX REBUILD PARTITION PART1 COMPRESS;
ERROR at line 1:ORA-28659: COMPRESS must be specified at object level first
Turns out that there is no way you can do a rebuild compress on partitioned indexes. I did not realize that until I stumbled across document 312843.1 on Metalink. It says the only way to compress a partitioned index is to drop it and recreate it (through 11.2).
My question is do we have any new feature in Oracle 11gR2 to rebuild partition indexes?
Im having table which is of 45M rows table [Not partitioned], Now I want to compress the old data other than last 3Months data, I should not go for partition compress. Rarely some select queries will be fired on that Old data. Now how can I compress that table without affecting the Indexes , Dependencies proc, pkgs, Functions.
Oracle Database version: 11.2.0.2 / sparc / 64bit. Os Version: Solaris 10 with update 6(or more).
Requirement: OS backup (without Oracle binary/software and database) will be taken from existing server. The server will be "zoned"(container or may call virtual machine). The backup will be restored on the vm; all database related mount point will be there. Installation of same Oracle software and creation of test database.
Scenario: Before starting oracle installation i am on an OS in which the oracle software was previously installed. But the software files/binaries are not present. I am just putting the software again through installation. Now all the prerequisites are met and oracle project/user/group is already there as os is backed up from previous working setup.
Question: What should i take care for this installation?Is it will be a simple installation just running the runinstaller?
I have 2 seperate rman backup one backup is of only datafile ,spfile and controlfile which i am able to restore and recover without any problem say bkp1 taken at 10 am
other set of backup is of only archive log files of same day but later time than datafile backup say bkp2 taken at 8pm...if i restore and recover bkp1 and try to restore bkp2 it gives error datafile exist (possibly due to fact both backup have control file)
if i just restore bkp1 and try to restore bkp2 so that i can do one recover at time it gives error datafile permission issue (possibly due to fact both backup have control file)
I want to restore database upto 8pm time how can i use both bkp1 and bkp2 to do it(restore datafiles and apply all archive logs on it)
I tried to clone a 2 node rac database to single instance non rac database using existing backup. I have not used connectivity to target or catalog. rman duplicate finished with below messages:
rman auxiliary sys/******@dbracdup RMAN> duplicate database to dbrac spfile backup location '/oracle/backup'; ... ... Finished recover at 25-JUL-12 Segmentation fault
And the database was in mount stage, and when i tried to open database it failed with below error:
SQL> alter database open; alter database open * ERROR at line 1: ORA-19838: Cannot use this control file to open database .
We are doing RMAN Duplicate set until time to refresh daily our test database for our developers and it taking long time to finish. We noticed on the restore log that RMAN was using a day old old backup pieces to refresh the test database and don't immediately use the latest backup pieces instead.
For additional details here's the rman duplicate command we are using which we run daily(mon-sat) at 4am once daily full backup on production completed.
RMAN Duplicate commands: run { set until time "to_date(to_char(sysdate,'Mon DD YYYY') || ' 04:00:00', 'Mon DD YYYY HH24:MI:SS')"; allocate auxiliary channel ch1 type disk; duplicate target database to testdb; } exit
Is there a way on how to let RMAN use the latest backup pieces instead?
I am tryign to run a split onlike full backup from the os useign the sap command which is linked to rman..Command that i am useing is ...
brbackup -u / -c force -t online_split -m full -p initBR1_onlinefull.sap
The backup goes thru but i get this erro on the end...

I have facing problem while taking backup on Windows 7 client of Oracle 11g R2 database. I have installed oracle 11gR2 for windows on windows 7 machine. I have created a directory like below in database.
On Database Server
SQL> create directory win_expdp_dir as 'd:expimp';
Directory created.
SQL> grant read, write on directory win_expdp_dir to lab;
Grant succeeded.
On Windows 7 machine (client machine)
D:appproduct11.2.0client_1BIN>expdp lab/lab@wbdata.wbh-db11g DIRECTORY=win_expdp_dir DUMPFILE=lab.dmp LOGFILE=lab.log Export: Release 11.2.0.1.0 - Production on Mon May 2 12:51:44 2011 Copyright (c) 1982, 2009, Oracle and/or its affiliates. I have give all sharing rights on d:expimp directory. My main question is why i'm getting this error. Is there any thing missing in setup. how to take export on windows 7 client.
I am trying to clone a database on another server with different direcory structure. So that path on the source db server are /u04 whereas on on target db server it would be /u03.
Since this I am testing it on small database initially I have kept all datafiles, backup and archivelogs at /u04 and /u03 on the source and target db servers respectively Now I have copied the backups from source db server to target and since path is changed, I cataloged it
However during restore I am getting
Quote:ORA-19870: error reading backup
Here are the session details
RMAN> catalog start with '/u03/oradata/db7fra'; searching for all files that match the pattern /u03/oradata/db7fra List of Files Unknown to the Database ===================================== File Name: /u03/oradata/db7fra/DB7/archivelog/2011_03_15/o1_mf_1_16_6qyvpb3w_.arc File Name: /u03/oradata/db7fra/DB7/backupset/2011_03_15/o1_mf_annnn_TAG20110315T123018_6qypyv5v_.bkp

I've read a lot about the different types of backup available with Oracle (hot and cold backup). However, I was thinking of a different way of performing this task. I'm currently using Windows Server 2008 R2 and Oracle 11g Standard Edition. I'd like to schedule an entire backup of my server via the utility "Windows Server Backup" (available for free).That way, I could recover my entire server with all the programs and files in case the latter crashes.I'm wondering if this solution could be used as a way of backing up (and recovering) the Oracle database. Should I still set up a regular hot backup with the Archivelog mode enabled in case some operations/transactions were being done at the time of the crash (for the data integrity)?
I want to ask if I restore a control file from backup of say day2 and I recover till day1 using RMAN script, then what will be the state of my database? I mean day2 control file may be having SCN-Day2, and I am instructing RMAN to recover till past point in time that is SCN-Day1.
