Apr 16, 2013Having trouble installing Oracle 11g. After I select system class, the installer just closes out. I have re-download the software from the Oracle and made sure both files were unzipped into the same folder correctly. Searching around this forum found same problems, none of the solutions have worked so far. Tried setup -jreLoc (Location of Java), tried using it with different versions of java. If it tries to start the installer it gives an error about not being able to locate java runtime.
Specs: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
8GB Memory
930GB Free (on drive i want to install oracle on)

Mar 1, 2012I am facing a problem while installing Oracle11gR2 in my laptop having windows 7 basic edition. Initially i reached till step 16 which is "Prerequisite check" after giving the schema password . But then suddenly the installer got excited. After that when i again tried to run the installer at the 3rd stage of installation when i am clicking the next button the installer is getting excited.
How to reslove this issue and get oracle 11gR2 installed in my laptop.

Aug 26, 2013We wish to configure an Oracle 11g RAC with ASM setup for the internal employee training purpose. The requirement is as follows
1. Operating system Linux, Software Oracle 11g Release 2
2. Need to build total 5 individual clusters.
3. Each cluster with 2 Node
4. Need to configure ASM as a shared storage with real hardware. (No virtualization, Openfiler, NFS)
5. Need to configure RAC database.
provide me the hardware details for configuring Shared storage. Is there any specific Storage which we can use to configure ASM as a storage.

However it is not asking the database name or password ( no configuration set up is appearing for the user to interact with the system ) . So, after installation I can not give the username and password .
Oracle 11g X64 Setup On Windows 2008r2 Server
May 6, 2013I am setting up a new production Oracle 11gr2 database on Windows 2008r2 server. I will have SAN(HP 3PAR) attach to the physical server. Here is my plan for diskLUN allocation:
1. 2 SAS disk in Raid1 for OS.
2. 2 SAS disk in Raid1 for Oracle database binary file.
3. 1 LUN for data file. (system, application, user table space)
4. 1 LUN for log file.
5. 1 LUN for temp.
6. 1 LUN for backup.
is this configuration OK? Does UNDO table space on separate LUN or it's OK to put it on data LUN?

Sep 5, 2012I'm trying to setup ODBC connection for my Oracle client while installing BO. Following are the steps I followed.
1. Downloaded the Oracle Client from the link [URL] . From that downloaded two zip files. “Instant Client Package – Basic Lite" and “Instant Client Package – ODBC”. Extracted the Zip Files to the folder I created under C: as C:Oracleinstantclient_11_2.
2. Since I'm setting up in ODBC in windows 2008 64-bit R2. I was advised to install 32 bit . So in cmd prompt, from the location C:Oracleinstantclient_11_2, ran odbc_install.
3.Created the Environment variables as
i) *TNS_ADMIN - C:Oracleinstantclient_11_2*
ii) *Oracle_Home - C:Oracleinstantclient_11_2*
iii) *Edited the PATH variable with ;C:Oracleinstantclient_11_2*
4. Created the tnsnames.ora file in C:Oracleinstantclient_11_2. Its content are as follows.

TNS Service Name : clarity_dev
User Id: clarity1
When I test connect it, I get error *ORA-12154:*
* TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified*
I've seen FAQs for this error, but couldn't find anything which solves. Is there any steps I'm missing? I've checked in DB properties. It uses SID not the Service Name.

The time entered will most likely be in the past and NOT the current time.
What is the best way to set up a form and a database table for time entry only (exclude the date)?
I have tried datetime on the form with format HH12:MM PM and date on the database.
I have also tried the same with a timestamp on the database.
The time always appears to get entered correctly. However, the time is always stored as AM regardless of what is specified by the user.

Dec 2, 2011I have a dataguard setup, a primary and a standby.my instance is testdb.i have set all necessary dataguard parameters and everything seemed to work well initially with logs being moved from primary to secondary and being applied there.but all of a sudden i see that the primary pushes logs to the standby and at the standby end these logs are available but not applied.
when i try to execute the: alter database recover managed standby database cancel; it hangs for a long time and never returns to sql prompt.
i bascially want to stop and restart the MRP process to apply the logs but cannot cancel the managed recover mode.Is it advisable to kill the mrp process at os level using "kill -9 "?

We ran a perl script which is using ldapmodify to change the value of one attribute in all records (7 Millions records).That has been done by creating many of LDIF files each of 10,000 records in 26.04, and by mistake this script has ran 3 times in parallel.Currently the replication between both nodes are stuck, and when I query the ods_chg_log on the master node (node1):
SQL> select count(*) from ods_chg_log;
COUNT(*)

6690594
And the number is not decreasing.
And I queried on the asr_chg_log on the master node (node1):
SQL> select count(*) from asr_chg_log;

Dropdown lists all work but the dynamic actions on them don't, also the submit function does nothing when pressed.

Jan 8, 2013I tried my DBA hat today in an effort to set up the Apache FOP to allow users to download interactive reports as PDF. This was working previously - although I'm not sure how since there was no report printing infrastructure set up.We have APEX 4.1.1 using Apache on Windows server 2003.
It started because we saw one of two errors in the generated PDF
ORA-20001: The printing engine could not be reached because either the URL specified is incorrect or a proxy URL needs to be specified.or
ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too smallAs much of the documentation indicates, the first suggests a problem with ACL. I had a little trouble finding documentation stating specifically which acl should be defined for IR PDF printing, but we did ensure the listings in the dba_network_acl* views were current with

/I'm still unable to identify where the second error (ORA-06502) is coming up - which is apparently new. So I attempted to deploy the fop.war file using EM, adapting instructions from [URL]...though I think I may have missed a mark since these instructions differ from using the OC4J EM - but I guessed there was fair correlation.
From the EM home on our app server, I created a new OC4J instance called "APEX_Reports"I then went to deploy the fop.war file using "fop" as application name, and "/fop/" as the map to url.
Back in APEX instance management, I set up

I used the same port as that in the EM address. I've also tried variations usinglocalhost8888fop/fop/apex_fop.jsp

(I've been trying everything)
Other port numbers attempted include those types (JMS,RMI,AJP) listed for the APEX_Reports component.Do we need to restart anything or re-login to APEX before testing modifications?
