I wanted to setup a two node 11g RAC with ASM at my home for learning purpose. I have read many documents to configure shared storage using NFS, Openfiler, VMsetup etc. Is there any hardware available (something like maxtor disk) which is not much expensive to setup a shared storage ?

Is it possible to configure Oracle 11g Release 2 RAC with two node using MAXTOR disk?
or Is there any other external disk available which I can use it as a shared storage?
Some shops run Oracle RAC using "conventional" storage, like emc, netapp, etc. Some shops run Oracle RAC using JBOD, just bunch of disks, all redundancy is managed by ASM.
How would you distinct these two approaches? JBOD approach sounds cheaper, so why serious enterprises are still using traditional conventional storage, like netapp and emc?
I am looking for different cheap storage options to build test RAC setup for DB on Linux@Dell PowerEdge T100 .

View 5 Replies View RelatedI wish to install 11g r1 RAC on my laptop having linux 4 as platform (on vmware) , for that i prepare 4 partition for that (on node1)
/dev/sdb1 - for ocr
/dev/sdb2 - for voting disk
/dev/sdb3 - for asmdisk group
/dev/sda5 - fro asmdisk group
by assuming external redundancy for ocr and voting disk i kept only one disk
and i configured following in /etc/sysconfig/rawdevices
/dev/raw/raw1 /dev/sdb1 -- ocr
/dev/raw/raw2 /dev/sdb2 -- voting disk
/dev/raw/raw3 /dev/sdb3 -- asmdisk group
/dev/raw/raw4 /dev/sdb5 -- asmdisk group
and my question is how node2 can understat these raw device as shared storage?
we don't have system or storage admin available..I have to create the development environment. I have 2 Dell 2950 Power Edgde Servers and 500 GB Buffalo NAS with Windows 2K3 X64 EE, tell me whether I can install Oracle RAC with this kit.
If yes , how can I configure shared storage and present it to OS so that both nodes can see it.
I am trying to apply 11.2.0.2.5 psu on a 2-node cluster running on RHEL 5.5 vms. Followed ORACLE-BASE examples when installed this laptop RAC. I am not using any ACFS and none of GI and DB homes are shared. But, on node 2, cluvfy THINKS database home is shared.

I can not determine any reasons and do not know how to fix.
My organisation is currently discussing different storage options for the database storage. Our production database is nearly 2TB and we do not want to continue with the existing NetApp storage (we use a 2 node RAC running 11.2.02 with nfs filesystem from NetApp filer).
We were looking at different options and came across Nimble Storage, they are very fast growing company aiming mid-range storage customers. The initial talks and demonstration looked very promising in terms of IO performance (they claim 40,000 - 60,000 IOPs for their CS400 series Nimble Storage array) and other options they are providing but we understand that majority of their customers are using it for VDI and other infrastructures.
They have demonstrated us using if for Oracle database with ASM storage over iSCSI LUNs. We are yet to do the POCs and benchmarking.
Has anyone come across Nimble Storage for running Oracle databases?

I can't seem to figure out how to appease it. I have the smtp server correctly set in the parameters. Here is the procedure I'm trying to use (from [URL]):

I want to setup one way replication in oracle 10g Database.
Example: There are 2 database in two locations.DB1 and DB2.

I have a dataguard setup, a primary and a standby.my instance is testdb.i have set all necessary dataguard parameters and everything seemed to work well initially with logs being moved from primary to secondary and being applied there.but all of a sudden i see that the primary pushes logs to the standby and at the standby end these logs are available but not applied.
when i try to execute the: alter database recover managed standby database cancel; it hangs for a long time and never returns to sql prompt.
i bascially want to stop and restart the MRP process to apply the logs but cannot cancel the managed recover mode.Is it advisable to kill the mrp process at os level using "kill -9 "?

We ran a perl script which is using ldapmodify to change the value of one attribute in all records (7 Millions records).That has been done by creating many of LDIF files each of 10,000 records in 26.04, and by mistake this script has ran 3 times in parallel.Currently the replication between both nodes are stuck, and when I query the ods_chg_log on the master node (node1):
SQL> select count(*) from ods_chg_log;
COUNT(*)
----------
6690594
And the number is not decreasing.
And I queried on the asr_chg_log on the master node (node1):
SQL> select count(*) from asr_chg_log;

(including buttons)
Dropdown lists all work but the dynamic actions on them don't, also the submit function does nothing when pressed.

This was working previously - although I'm not sure how since there was no report printing infrastructure set up.We have APEX 4.1.1 using Apache on Windows server 2003.
It started because we saw one of two errors in the generated PDF
ORA-20001: The printing engine could not be reached because either the URL specified is incorrect or a proxy URL needs to be specified.or

So I attempted to deploy the fop.war file using EM, adapting instructions from [URL]...though I think I may have missed a mark since these instructions differ from using the OC4J EM - but I guessed there was fair correlation.
From the EM home on our app server, I created a new OC4J instance called "APEX_Reports"I then went to deploy the fop.war file using "fop" as application name, and "/fop/" as the map to url.
Back in APEX instance management, I set up

I used the same port as that in the EM address. I've also tried variations usinglocalhost8888fop/fop/apex_fop.jsp

(I've been trying everything)
Other port numbers attempted include those types (JMS,RMI,AJP) listed for the APEX_Reports component.Do we need to restart anything or re-login to APEX before testing modifications?
