RAC/ASM Clusterware Installation :: High Memory Usage By Grid / Database Installer
Oct 31, 2012
I am running oracle linux 5.7 on VMware Workstation 9 and trying to install Grid 11gr2, during installation my system freezes and I see out of memory errors. Actually Java installer is eating up too much memory over 1gb. Is there a way ? I can limit memory usage by Java process to a certain extent ?
I am trying to setup my environment to prepare for hands on DBA exercises from an OCM handbook for 10g -OCM:Oracle Database 10g Administrator Certified Master Exam Guide
I need access to the following files gc_10205_part1of2.zip, gc_10205_part2of2.zip for 32 bit linux
Apparently the above along with other Grid software was once attainable from the link below but sometime between this year and the last Oracle decided to remove this and other software from public access. URL.....
I doubt Oracle will hear my plea - educational purposes only - so given I want access to the software only.
We are using the 11g AMM feature and Memory_Target set to 96GB and total RAM on the Server is 128GB Now the top and free shows up only 200MB memory free on the system.
There are 2 process dbw0 and dbw1 which consumes the top memory and this is 30GB per dbw.
Why is the dbw process taking up so much memory when there is not much load on the database.
I want to install Oracle Grid software 11g R2. What is the Latest Oracle Grid software 11g R2 version available? Is it 11.2.0.1 or 11.2.0.3?If it is 11.2.0.3, is it available in metalink download, because I see only 11.2.0.1 version in metalink download?
After installing a 4 node cluster 11.2.0.3 with 16 CPU's (4 on each node) on IBM 795 with aix 6.1 each server is using 0.5 CPU with no user load on the system. Running SIHA on one server typically uses 0.05 CPU with no user load on the system.
I am preparing to install grid infrastructure 11.2.0.3 on AIX 6.2 USING AIX LPARS. I am getting the following errors in the output when runningn the following command...
I'm installing Oracle Grid 11gr2 on windows 2003 server. I installed successfully without domain controller. But when i try to install with Active Domain controller i faced following error
when i install grid, the program stop at "loading setup dirver",this 's the log file.

i have installed grid(crs+asm) on my two linux node(Enterprise linux 5) setup, using openfiler(SAN) , i have configure grid Home like ORACLE_ HOME=/ u01/ home/app/11.2.0/grid.
1) i don't get any instance specific asm parameter file like init+ASM1.ora instead of that i got ab_+ASM1.dat, hc_+ASM1.dat, init.ora, orapw+ASM four files, do i need to create ASM instance specific parameter manually to create diskgroup in the same location,
2) +DATA diskgroup has been created while grid installation, but when i try to create database, its giving me error diskgroup +DATA doesn't exit or not mount, but when i check it shows me mount like below $cd $ORACLE_HOME/dbs (here oracle home is grid home)$export ORACLE_SID=+ASM1$sqlplus / as sysdba>select name, state from v$asm_diskgroup; name state DATA Mounted even i cant able to dismount diskgroup DATA, it throws an error insufficient privilege.
3) After grid installation how can one create diskgroup i mean what needs to exported as ORACLE_SID like in 10g we have $export ORACLE_SID=+ASM1 then creat diskgroup.
I'm doing some testes installing grid 11.2.0.3 32bits software on a OEL6 32bits (virtual box environment). The problem appeared where i ran root.sh script on node 1. The following error appeared to me:
clscfg: -install mode specified Successfully accumulated necessary OCR keys. Creating OCR keys for user 'root', privgrp 'root'.. Operation successful. CRS-4256: Updating the profile
I have a RAC 48 cores on solaris. I check dbconsole when application performance is very slow and everyone complains, and I see that the main wait is cpu - also on the awr report. however when I check server cpu I see about 80% idle! so how can I make oracle use more cpu power instead of waiting for it? I don't think that parallel is an option here because I can't change the application code.
I would like to use Oracle Grid Infrastructure to protect a single-instance database.
I found these docs:
[URL]
I was unable to find a similar document for GI 11.2 . Do you know if such a document exists?
At the moment I only know that the GI is free if used for an Oracle Product, but I am not shure whether it can be used to protext external applications or single-instance databases
Is there any way to tune the following query using lot of CPU:-select description,time_stamp,user_id from bhi_tracking where description like 'Multilateral:%'The explain plan for this is query is:-
Bhi_tracking is used for reporting purpose and contain millions of records.Generally we keep one year data in this table and delete the remaining. Can I drop the table after taking export and then import it back or can i truncatethe table and then insert the rows into it to enhancethe performance.
GI 11.2.0 is installed...The installation of the database crashed in dbca.
When I tried to rerun, I got: PRCD-1121: Speciffied server pool RAC for RAC is already hosting an administrator-managed configuration for database(s) RAC
we need to take care of all the components in a RAC Database 11g rel 2 . what is the sequence of stopping RAC database ? databsae ?? ASM ??? listeners ??? cluster services ??? commands and also sequence to start / stop ...and to check status of each components
Having trouble installing Oracle 11g. After I select system class, the installer just closes out. I have re-download the software from the Oracle and made sure both files were unzipped into the same folder correctly. Searching around this forum found same problems, none of the solutions have worked so far. Tried setup -jreLoc (Location of Java), tried using it with different versions of java. If it tries to start the installer it gives an error about not being able to locate java runtime.
Specs: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 8GB Memory 930GB Free (on drive i want to install oracle on)
after uninstalling 10g software with home using universal installer how to re-install without deleting all components of database like the database exists i just want to put the oracle software on it and reusing x home location.
I successfully installed clusterwares in 2 nodes but when i installled Oracle 11g Rel 2 (11.2.0.1) RAC database in Oracle linux 5.4 64bit, all the prerequisites are failed. I dont understand why all the prerequisties are failed,
Both nodes are working fine, i used all basics command to check the clusters, but why the database installation prerequisties are failed.
I am trying to install Oracle Database 11gR2 database on Oracle Grid 11gR2. I successfully installed Grid without errors. However, when installing the database, I got an OLR Integrity error during the prerequisit Check
OLR Integrity - This test checks the integrity of OLR on the local node. Expected Value : n/a Actual Value : n/a List of errors: - Permissons of file "/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/grid/cdata/localhost/localhost.olr" did not match the expected value. I am installing RAC on my Laptop using VM ware workstation . I have created two linux machines on VM ware with 1 gb merory on each machine . I installed 10.2.0.1 clusterware successfully but when i am installing 10.2.0.1 database binaries my machine reboot every time .
I have a requirement where I have to generate monthly filesystem usage report(graphical) in an automated fashion,I checked the built in reports from the grid control 10g but not able to find any thing....
I am using Oracle 11g On windows 2003 Server, and in the task manager, tnslsnr.exe comsuming approx 1 GB of RAM. After restarting the listener it came to some mb(20-30). but Again after few days it raies and consume lots of memory..
I have two tables with same columns(15 of them), I am trying to find difference between two tables using minus operator and then insert in stage table using below code
Issue is table1 has 50 million records table2 is empty
so when first time when we execute this v_collection1,v_collection2 collection will have 50 million records in it which will go in memory, I think this is not good, because going in memory will eat memory and resources while sorting and other activities ?
After fetching records in collection we are inserting that in stage table and then COMMIT so i think that wont be good because committing 50 million will generate large amount of redo?
below is snippet of my code
DECLARE type lst_collection1 IS TABLE OF table1.col1%type INDEX BY binary_integer; type lst_collection2 IS [code].......
We are running Oracle Apps 11i on Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise SP2 (32 bit). After enabling /3GB switch parameter in Boot.ini file, the OS recognizes the 8GB RAM and consumes it upto 5.6GB during non-peak hours but as workload increases in evening when end users generate auto receipts the same memory usage ratio reaches upto 6GB resulting the OS gets hang and don't respond at all. Inspite of having 2GB free memory it doesn't consume it. We have to shut down it by pressing the power off button and restart it
The system configuration is as under: HP ProLiant DL380 G6 Intel Xeon 2.4 GHz 8GB RAM (4 x 2 GB)
After the reboots each system was using around 30 GB of memory... now that it's been up for a week memory is up to 98GB used on each system. None of the systems are swapping.
determine if a function is worth pinning in memory? I want to come up with a percentage, implying that if the function is already im memory 80%+ of the time then it is not worth it.
I am setting up a RAC cluster in Oracle 11.2.0.3 on two Windows 2008R2 nodes.I have completed all the pre-installation tasks would like to verify this by running:cluvfy comp sys -p database -n allusing the standalone download of cluvfy - I haven't installed any Oracle software as yet. This completes successfully on the remote node but fails on the local node (whichever one I run it from).
