TNS Listener Service Disappeared After Restart Windows 7 X64 Oracle 11g
Dec 22, 2012
I just finished my first course in SQL for Oracle 11g at my local community college. We used SQL*Plus for the coursework and for the next class I need to use SQL Developer. Initially, I installed the Developer and was unable to establish a test connection due to the listener not being installed. I fiigured out that I needed to use the Network Configuration Assistant to add and configure the listener. After doing so, I was able to connect using Developer. The issue, however, is that any time I restart my computer, the TNS Listener service disappears from the list of services in Task Manager and I have to delete and then add and configure the service again using Network Configuration Assistant. Obviously, the Listener still exists because I can delete it and then recreate it.

11g RAC environment, I manually shutdown the database with "shutdown immediate" and stop the listener with "lsnrctl stop". Later I manually startup only the database but the listener is also started automatically at almost the same.
Why would this happen ? I just don't want the listener to startup automatically at that time. What can i do to prevent the listener from auto-starting when i startup the database manually.

I'm using Oracle 11g running over a Windows 7 OS. The service OracleServiceORCL doesn't start. Listener.log has the following registry:
23-OCT-2012 19:45:29 * (CONNECT_DATA=(CID=(PROGRAM=)(HOST=__jdbc__)(USER=MBA-DB$))(SERVICE_NAME=orcl)) * (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=127.0.0.1)(PORT=49445)) * establish * orcl * 12514
TNS-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
When I try to start in services, is returned the OS error 1067. This error starts to occur when I did the follow. I executed a PLSQL command to fill a (big) table with a lot of data. More than 1 day after and while the program still running, I broke the program. After that, Oracle was consuming lot of disk. I broke the process (using taskkill /f) and, after that, the database stopped working.
What I can do to recover my database?Below I list my listener.ora and tnsnames.ora

I tried to reinstall oracle 11g on windows 2008 R2 and couldn't complete the installation as i am unable to start the oracle service. The system gives the following error message
Instance created.
DIM-00019: create service error
O/S-Error: (OS 1053) The service did not respond to the start or control request
in a timely fashion.
I try to manually create the service and it gives me the same error.I also tried to start the service using the net start as follows
C:UsersAdministrator>net start oracleserviceprod
The service is not responding to the control function.
Having looked at the event viewer in windows, I noticed three different error messages as followsr
Application popup: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library : Runtime Error!
Program: c:appadministratorproduct11.2.0dbhome_1inORACLE.EXE
R6034
An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.and then A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the OracleServiceprod service to connect.
The OracleServiceprod service failed to start due to the following error:

I am new to Oracle DB. I have installed Oracle 10g in XP Service Pack2 and was able to login using SYS/SYSTEM users and also was able to create a new user XYZ...
Once I restarted my system, I am facing a strange problem while login. It is continuously throwing the error "tns: listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor". I do not understand the reason. I have checked the services and all oracle related services are running.
However, when I tried to login with the same userid/password from command prompt using 'sqlplus' command, I am able to login ! There was no error this time.

I need to create another listener service in RAC 11gR2 env for a new application connecting to the database in 11gR2 env. I have an existing listener service listening on 2 RAC instances now.The new one needs to be created will have a new service_name, preferably using different port (other than 1521), listening on same same set of instances.

I am not using RAC (to my knowledge), but I installed grid so I can use ASM with my RDBMS.
Recently I noticed that the "CRS Listener" service was not started, when I try to start it then it immediately stops. It does not seem to affect the databases, they are still up and running. What is this service used for and how can I get it to start. I am using Oracle Enterprise Server 11.2.0.3 and Grid 11.2.0.3 on a Windows 2008 R2 64-bit server.

I am trying to connect to Oracle 11g using ODBC.I created a data source name from Admistrative Tools->ODBC Data Sources.I selected Oracle in OraClient11g_home1 as the driver. I tested the connection and it was succesful.I tried to connect from visual studio. I used the Data Source as Microsoft ODBC Data SOurce. Selected my DSN from drop down (LORAC). I gave the user name and password and got the followign errors:
ORA-12504: TNS:listener was not given the SERVICE_NAME in CONNECT_DATA
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed
This is my tnsnames.ora located in C:oracleproduct11.1.0client_1

etworkadmin nsnames.ora
# Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
LORAC =

When i do tnsping LORAC, i get OK. When I do tnsping of the other service name i get Failed. However when I try to connect to that service from Visual studio I get a differnt set of errors:
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed
I had assumed that as the test connection from ODBC Administrator had worked I would be able to connec to my database from viusal studio. Is there something wrong in my tnsnames.ora? The content or its directory location?

One of our requirements is to secure the listener and other Oracle services by running them as a local OS account rather than as LocalSystem on the server.
I created a local OS account (assume it's named oracleuser), assigned it to the User and ORA_DBA groups on the server, and then I went to the Local Policies and added oracleuser to "Deny log on locally" and "Log on as a service".
I opened up the Services utility and stopped the four Oracle services we have running (OracleMTSRecoveryService, xxx_home1iSQL*Plus, xxx_home1TNSListener, and OracleServiceMYDB). I changed the "Log on as" for each service to oracleuser with its password (copied and pasted so I know there are no typo's), and restarted the services.
All the services except the listener started up. Attempting to start the listener caused the following error:
"The xxx_home1TNSListener service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service."
I tried rebooting the server and had the same result. For now just the listener service has been switched back to logging in as LocalSystem while the other services continue to use the local OS account and the database seems stable, but I do need to figure this out.

I installed Oracle 11.2.0.1.0 Enterprise Edition on my home laptop computer running Windows 7 Professional months ago, set the services to start automatically and it had been working fine, with multiple shutdowns and re-starts per day, until today. I was using it earlier today, then shut the laptop down, went to lunch, turned it on again, tried to login through SQL*Plus and got:
SQL*Plus: Release 11.2.0.1.0 Production on Sat Feb 12 15:48:39 2011
Copyright (c) 1982, 2010, Oracle. All rights reserved.
Enter user-name: scott/tiger
ERROR:
ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
Enter user-name:
I tried restarting the computer, but still got the same result as above.I went to:
Control Panel -> System and Security -> Administrative Tools -> Services
and confirmed that the Oracle services were still set to start automatically. The OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSListener showed started. The OracleServiceORCL showed that it was set to start automatically, but did not show started or starting or stopped. The only option displayed for it was start, not pause or stop or restart, implying that it was not started. My computer had been on long enough that it should have started and it did not show that it was trying to start or give any indication that it had tried to start and failed and showed that it was set to start automatically.
I clicked on the start option, it started, and I was able to login. If I have to, I can live with this as a workaround, but I would prefer that it start automatically like it is supposed to. I find it puzzling since it had been working and I did not change anything, at least not intentionally. The only thing that I can think of that I did differently recently was experimenting with cursors and dbms_sql in order to intentionally reproduce the error "ORA-29471: DBMS_SQL access denied" to demonstrate it in response to a thread on the SQL and PL/SQL forum: [URL]. However, after reproducing the error, I corrected it and was still able to exit SQL*Plus and log in again until I shut down the computer and re-started. I don't know if this is related or coincidence.

Is there a way to have separate wallets for each windows user? Well, I have found a way, but does not seem to work always properly and that is with %USERNAME% environment variable.
This is how our customer want's to have - so separate wallet for each windows user, how to accomplish this without using %USERNAME%?

Oracle Restart 11.2.0.3 w/ASM. To improve redundancy we're planning to change the network configuration in our Oracle Restart environment from using 1 LAN interface to a bonded interface consisting of 2 interfaces. So the change will be from using "eth0" to using "bond0" consisting of "eth0" and "eth1". Are there any changes that must be done in the Oracle Restart configuration to reflect these changes?

I am attempting to use an rman backup form our live server to restore live data over an existing dev database with a different name. I cant use the duplicate command as the versions of oracle are different (10.2.0.4 EE on live, 10.2.0.5 SE on dev) So I copied the backup sets including an autobackup control file onto the dev server. I set the ORACLE_SID to the DEV version (SUN43DEV) and startup nomount and restore controlfile from the backup location. This works and restored the live controlfile. However, I then wanted to mount the database and catalog the backupsets before making a note of the last archivelog etc and restoring the backup with set newname options. But when I try to mount the database I am told that the database has a different name (SUN43 is not SUN43DEV). I read somewhere that I need to set the ORACLE_SID to the live value (SUN43) and restore as that, then use nid TO RESET THE DBID and DATABASE NAME. However, my tnsnames on DEV has no entry for the live database, and we do not have any service defined through ORADIM for the live instance on the dev server. Should I be creating an entry in DEV tnsnames that actually looks at the LIVE server? or do I need to create a service and tns entry etc for SUN43 on my DEV server pointing at the DEV server I have not seen any mention in instructions of creating a service or adding the entry to tnsnames, or indeed adding an entry to the listener for the original live sid. I am worried that if I actually point to the live server then the restore would be attempted on the live server not dev even though I am running it from Dev.
Also, do I need to drop the existing database on DEV before I restore or will RMAN just restore over the top of it?
Finally, if I try to add an entry to the LISTENER.ORA for the new sid, when I stop and start the listener, or reload, the entry is not recognised. I also noticed that the existing SUN43DEV entry is not in there either, yet I can still use that SID - I am assuming that is because the listener is not being used and the sid is recognised from the existence of the service in windows services instead?
