Networking And Gateways :: Listener Could Not Find Available Handler For Requested Type Of Server

Jun 20, 2010

I have ora-12520. I run Oracle 11g on Red Hat 4 64 bit. Actually I have RAC but one node is down and I work only with up one (connection string point directly to listener of running node). I run test with not too big loading. select count(*) from v$sessions gets ~ 200 in maximum loading, but after half minutes I get this error in my logs. Each time, lsnrctl services show that all is right. It shows one service with one handler. I see nothing in alert.log. This is very strange, I know, and I'm sure that this is an actual alert.log because, I see there other events in actual time. Most important: I have SESSION parameter set to 600 and PROCESSES set to 400 so this must be enougha...

Backup & Recovery :: Restore Rman Backup On New Server As Different Name Sid / Service / Listener

Feb 13, 2012

I am attempting to use an rman backup form our live server to restore live data over an existing dev database with a different name. I cant use the duplicate command as the versions of oracle are different (10.2.0.4 EE on live, 10.2.0.5 SE on dev) So I copied the backup sets including an autobackup control file onto the dev server. I set the ORACLE_SID to the DEV version (SUN43DEV) and startup nomount and restore controlfile from the backup location. This works and restored the live controlfile. However, I then wanted to mount the database and catalog the backupsets before making a note of the last archivelog etc and restoring the backup with set newname options. But when I try to mount the database I am told that the database has a different name (SUN43 is not SUN43DEV). I read somewhere that I need to set the ORACLE_SID to the live value (SUN43) and restore as that, then use nid TO RESET THE DBID and DATABASE NAME. However, my tnsnames on DEV has no entry for the live database, and we do not have any service defined through ORADIM for the live instance on the dev server. Should I be creating an entry in DEV tnsnames that actually looks at the LIVE server? or do I need to create a service and tns entry etc for SUN43 on my DEV server pointing at the DEV server I have not seen any mention in instructions of creating a service or adding the entry to tnsnames, or indeed adding an entry to the listener for the original live sid. I am worried that if I actually point to the live server then the restore would be attempted on the live server not dev even though I am running it from Dev.

Also, do I need to drop the existing database on DEV before I restore or will RMAN just restore over the top of it?

Finally, if I try to add an entry to the LISTENER.ORA for the new sid, when I stop and start the listener, or reload, the entry is not recognised. I also noticed that the existing SUN43DEV entry is not in there either, yet I can still use that SID - I am assuming that is because the listener is not being used and the sid is recognised from the existence of the service in windows services instead?

TNS - Listener Does Not Currently Know Of Service?

Feb 27, 2013

I am new to Oracle DB. I have installed Oracle 10g in XP Service Pack2 and was able to login using SYS/SYSTEM users and also was able to create a new user XYZ...

Once I restarted my system, I am facing a strange problem while login. It is continuously throwing the error "tns: listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor". I do not understand the reason. I have checked the services and all oracle related services are running.

However, when I tried to login with the same userid/password from command prompt using 'sqlplus' command, I am able to login ! There was no error this time.

Server Administration :: Create New Service For Database?

Jul 16, 2010

create a new DB service and apply the load , then I need to verify the service load from Enterprise Manager or table V$SERVICEMETRIC .

Below are what I did

Quote:I tried to add service in tnsnames.ora like below

SERVICE = (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(PORT=25057)(HOST=dadvmc))(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=tgc4)))

/************
Also I tried the serviceName like below, but not working when I conneted SALES1 from sqlplus
SALES1 = (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(PORT=25057)(HOST=dadvmc))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=host.us.xxx.com)))
**********/

and login as

sqlplus scott/tiger@SERVICE[/email][/email]

then lock table EMP in exclusive mode in two session.

I can see the load is added to service SYS$USERS , but I can't see the new service from V$SERVICEMETRIC or Enterprise Manager.

select
SERVICE_NAME
from V$SERVICEMETRIC

How could we create the new DB service?

Server Administration :: Block Corruption - Segment Not Found

May 16, 2012

4 756652 1 5.5157E+12 CORRUPT

I am not able to get the relevant segment from the above information

SQL> select segment_name, segment_type, owner
2 from dba_extents

4 and 756652 between block_id
5 and block_id + blocks -1;

no rows selected

Total Pages Processed (Data) : 3119107
Total Pages Failing (Data) : 0
Total Pages Processed (Index): 755048

[code]....

I have uploaded the complete logfile.

Below is a part of logfile

DBVERIFY - Verification starting : FILE = /prd/dvp/ora/oradata/LHF/disk06/gds_t01_01.dbf
Block Checking: DBA = 21728172, Block Type = KTB-managed data block
**** kdxcoavs = -84 < 0, avail = 3129
---- end index block validation
Page 756652 failed with check code 6401
##not here that 756652 is the same block# mentioned in v$database_block_corruption

here i tried finding the OBJECT ID as below

SELECT dbms_utility.data_block_address_block(21728172) "BLOCK", dbms_utility.data_block_address_file(21728172) "FILE" FROM dual;
BLOCK FILE
---------- ----------
756652 5

Now for the same BLOCK it is giving different File, again the segment_name or segment_id could not be found from the above information.

Automatic Storage Management :: How To Start CRS Listener Service / What Is It Used For

Recently I noticed that the "CRS Listener" service was not started, when I try to start it then it immediately stops. It does not seem to affect the databases, they are still up and running. What is this service used for and how can I get it to start. I am using Oracle Enterprise Server 11.2.0.3 and Grid 11.2.0.3 on a Windows 2008 R2 64-bit server.

TNS Listener Service Disappeared After Restart Windows 7 X64 Oracle 11g

Dec 22, 2012

I just finished my first course in SQL for Oracle 11g at my local community college. We used SQL*Plus for the coursework and for the next class I need to use SQL Developer. Initially, I installed the Developer and was unable to establish a test connection due to the listener not being installed. I fiigured out that I needed to use the Network Configuration Assistant to add and configure the listener. After doing so, I was able to connect using Developer. The issue, however, is that any time I restart my computer, the TNS Listener service disappears from the list of services in Task Manager and I have to delete and then add and configure the service again using Network Configuration Assistant. Obviously, the Listener still exists because I can delete it and then recreate it.

Oct 4, 2011

I am trying to connect to Oracle 11g using ODBC.I created a data source name from Admistrative Tools->ODBC Data Sources.I selected Oracle in OraClient11g_home1 as the driver. I tested the connection and it was succesful.I tried to connect from visual studio. I used the Data Source as Microsoft ODBC Data SOurce. Selected my DSN from drop down (LORAC). I gave the user name and password and got the followign errors:

ORA-12504: TNS:listener was not given the SERVICE_NAME in CONNECT_DATA

[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed

This is my tnsnames.ora located in C:oracleproduct11.1.0client_1

etworkadmin nsnames.ora

When i do tnsping LORAC, i get OK. When I do tnsping of the other service name i get Failed. However when I try to connect to that service from Visual studio I get a differnt set of errors:

ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified

[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed

I had assumed that as the test connection from ODBC Administrator had worked I would be able to connec to my database from viusal studio. Is there something wrong in my tnsnames.ora? The content or its directory location?
