I am facing problem "ORA-12514" error. my database is register in listener but when i connected throw "sqlplus" then i got "ORA-12514" error.
As show below

ERROR: ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
im getting error ORA-12514.our prod db runs under default listener.nw i have configured another listener.if i try to connect from the loacl im grtting above error,bt im able to tnsping from the local system.
I have oracle 11g on windows xp. I can connect to oracle by SQL Plus without any problem, but when i want to connect to oracle by Toad or SQuirrel i see this error:
PTM Coding: Listener refused the connection with the following error: ORA-12514, TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
I am using Oracle 10g and when i start my server then my database is running and my application use this database.But after 15 min automatically application show this error

Our Oracle database was working fine up until last Thursday, now, for reasons unknown, Oracle is refusing connections. I have done a lot of reading about this error and I have performed all of the recommended actions to no avail. The actions I have performed are (see [URL])...
- Wait a moment and try to connect a second time. Yes, did that, probably 1,000 times - same results. - Check which services are currently known by the listener by executing: lsnrctl services <listener name> And here are those results (I replaced some of the private stuff with x's)... Why does the service PLSExtProc show up but not orcl? I don't get this but that's how its been since installation and as I said, it worked fine until last Thursday.
Here is what my TNSNAMES file looks like (again, replaced private info)...
- Check that the SERVICE_NAME parameter in the connect descriptor of the net service name used specifies a service known by the listener. See above. - If an easy connect naming connect identifier was used, check that the service name specified is a service known by the listener. I don't know what this is. - Check for an event in the listener.log file. I am new to oracle DBA. I have just installed the oracle on centos. when i create the oracle database for the first time then listener created and worked sucessfully. but when i stop the listener and start again. I get message "Listener does not currently know of services requested in connect descriptor.
I have ora-12520. I run Oracle 11g on Red Hat 4 64 bit. Actually I have RAC but one node is down and I work only with up one (connection string point directly to listener of running node). I run test with not too big loading. select count(*) from v$sessions gets ~ 200 in maximum loading, but after half minutes I get this error in my logs. Each time, lsnrctl services show that all is right. It shows one service with one handler. I see nothing in alert.log. This is very strange, I know, and I'm sure that this is an actual alert.log because, I see there other events in actual time. Most important: I have SESSION parameter set to 600 and PROCESSES set to 400 so this must be enougha...
I am new to Oracle DB. I have installed Oracle 10g in XP Service Pack2 and was able to login using SYS/SYSTEM users and also was able to create a new user XYZ...
Once I restarted my system, I am facing a strange problem while login. It is continuously throwing the error "tns: listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor". I do not understand the reason. I have checked the services and all oracle related services are running.
However, when I tried to login with the same userid/password from command prompt using 'sqlplus' command, I am able to login ! There was no error this time.
I need to create another listener service in RAC 11gR2 env for a new application connecting to the database in 11gR2 env. I have an existing listener service listening on 2 RAC instances now.The new one needs to be created will have a new service_name, preferably using different port (other than 1521), listening on same same set of instances.
ORA-12518 Tns: Listener does not currently know of service
from application server using client 10g to connect our database.This problem happens only in application server and we tried from another server we can connect to database easily but problem only in application server.
this error since TNSNAMES and network are properly hosted since there no network disconnection betwwen database server and application server.
On last Saturday we encountered error 'TNS-12519: TNS:no appropriate service handler found" in our listener log for some moment of time let say around 5mins and later it got all right itself.
I am not using RAC (to my knowledge), but I installed grid so I can use ASM with my RDBMS.
Recently I noticed that the "CRS Listener" service was not started, when I try to start it then it immediately stops. It does not seem to affect the databases, they are still up and running. What is this service used for and how can I get it to start. I am using Oracle Enterprise Server 11.2.0.3 and Grid 11.2.0.3 on a Windows 2008 R2 64-bit server.
I just finished my first course in SQL for Oracle 11g at my local community college. We used SQL*Plus for the coursework and for the next class I need to use SQL Developer. Initially, I installed the Developer and was unable to establish a test connection due to the listener not being installed. I fiigured out that I needed to use the Network Configuration Assistant to add and configure the listener. After doing so, I was able to connect using Developer. The issue, however, is that any time I restart my computer, the TNS Listener service disappears from the list of services in Task Manager and I have to delete and then add and configure the service again using Network Configuration Assistant. Obviously, the Listener still exists because I can delete it and then recreate it.
I am trying to connect to Oracle 11g using ODBC.I created a data source name from Admistrative Tools->ODBC Data Sources.I selected Oracle in OraClient11g_home1 as the driver. I tested the connection and it was succesful.I tried to connect from visual studio. I used the Data Source as Microsoft ODBC Data SOurce. Selected my DSN from drop down (LORAC). I gave the user name and password and got the followign errors:
ORA-12504: TNS:listener was not given the SERVICE_NAME in CONNECT_DATA
This is my tnsnames.ora located in C:oracleproduct11.1.0client_1 etworkadmin directory. # tnsnames.ora Network Configuration File: C:oracleproduct11.1.0client_1 etworkadmin nsnames.ora # Generated by Oracle configuration tools. LORAC = (DESCRIPTION =
[code]...
When i do tnsping LORAC, i get OK. When I do tnsping of the other service name i get Failed. However when I try to connect to that service from Visual studio I get a differnt set of errors:
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
I had assumed that as the test connection from ODBC Administrator had worked I would be able to connec to my database from viusal studio. Is there something wrong in my tnsnames.ora? The content or its directory location?
I want to upload file using restful service This is my code to send file to rest service
MultipartEntity reqEntity = new MultipartEntity(HttpMultipartMode.BROWSER_COMPATIBLE); FileBody bin = new FileBody(f); FormBodyPart bodypart = new FormBodyPart("file", bin); reqEntity.addPart(bodypart);
[code]...
But how can i retrive at server side in restful service using plsql?
One of our requirements is to secure the listener and other Oracle services by running them as a local OS account rather than as LocalSystem on the server.
I created a local OS account (assume it's named oracleuser), assigned it to the User and ORA_DBA groups on the server, and then I went to the Local Policies and added oracleuser to "Deny log on locally" and "Log on as a service".
I opened up the Services utility and stopped the four Oracle services we have running (OracleMTSRecoveryService, xxx_home1iSQL*Plus, xxx_home1TNSListener, and OracleServiceMYDB). I changed the "Log on as" for each service to oracleuser with its password (copied and pasted so I know there are no typo's), and restarted the services.
All the services except the listener started up. Attempting to start the listener caused the following error:
"The xxx_home1TNSListener service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service."
I tried rebooting the server and had the same result.For now just the listener service has been switched back to logging in as LocalSystem while the other services continue to use the local OS account and the database seems stable, but I do need to figure this out.
I am attempting to use an rman backup form our live server to restore live data over an existing dev database with a different name. I cant use the duplicate command as the versions of oracle are different (10.2.0.4 EE on live, 10.2.0.5 SE on dev) So I copied the backup sets including an autobackup control file onto the dev server. I set the ORACLE_SID to the DEV version (SUN43DEV) and startup nomount and restore controlfile from the backup location. This works and restored the live controlfile. However, I then wanted to mount the database and catalog the backupsets before making a note of the last archivelog etc and restoring the backup with set newname options. But when I try to mount the database I am told that the database has a different name (SUN43 is not SUN43DEV). I read somewhere that I need to set the ORACLE_SID to the live value (SUN43) and restore as that, then use nid TO RESET THE DBID and DATABASE NAME. However, my tnsnames on DEV has no entry for the live database, and we do not have any service defined through ORADIM for the live instance on the dev server. Should I be creating an entry in DEV tnsnames that actually looks at the LIVE server? or do I need to create a service and tns entry etc for SUN43 on my DEV server pointing at the DEV server I have not seen any mention in instructions of creating a service or adding the entry to tnsnames, or indeed adding an entry to the listener for the original live sid. I am worried that if I actually point to the live server then the restore would be attempted on the live server not dev even though I am running it from Dev.
Also, do I need to drop the existing database on DEV before I restore or will RMAN just restore over the top of it?
Finally, if I try to add an entry to the LISTENER.ORA for the new sid, when I stop and start the listener, or reload, the entry is not recognised. I also noticed that the existing SUN43DEV entry is not in there either, yet I can still use that SID - I am assuming that is because the listener is not being used and the sid is recognised from the existence of the service in windows services instead?
I searched the knowledge base here and in other forums and haven't found the answer. There was a similar condition presented earlier, but it turned out the resolution was to run the >shutdown/>startup on the server rather than from a client. Not applicable in my case!
Shutdown and startup called used to work with 9i, now startup fails in 10g. ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID are set and report correct values. What is different in 10g that the script (shown below) now throws a TNS listener error after shutdown?
I successfully upgraded from 9i to 10g (10.2.0.5.0) on Windows Server 2003, 32-bit last weekend. Now our backup_script.bat and oracle_stop_start.sql throw "ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in the connect descriptor"
This batch file and sql script predate me and worked with 9i for years. Now the startup command in the oracle_stop_start throws this error after executing shutdown. The backup batch file calls:
sqlplus "system/manager@wind as sysdba" @D:ptcwindchillackupsoracle_stop_start
The entire oracle_stop_start.sql is as follows:
shutdown immediate; startup open; quit
What is different in 10g that this now doesn't work? Shutdown works, but it will not startup due to the listener error. I have made the backups work by commenting out the call to sqlplus and I'm getting good backup dumps.
In my virtual image of the server I have found that I can duplicate the error after >shutdown. I have found that if I exit sql*plus and go back in as follows I can get the database instance to restart from the command line:
c:>sqlplus /nolog sql>connect sys/* as sysdba sql>startup open wind;
That does start, mount and open the database instance.
Is there a better way to be making sure that everything is stopped before executing the >exp command to create a backup dump? I will look into and test datapump export/import and RMAN for creating the backups, after I get this working again.
why this worked in sql*plus in 9i but not in 10g? Can I make TNS Listener smarter? Change or add variables to the startup command?
I'd like to call an existing function/procedure from a resource template. For example, I have a procedure called 'rest' with an out parameter of 'p_out' - how do I use this within a resource template?
At the moment I have defined the template as type 'PL/SQL Block' and with the 'GET' defined as:
begin myschema.rest(:p_out); end;
APEX_PUBLIC_USER has been granted 'all' on the procedure. The p_out is populated with a piece of text.
When I call this resource, I get a '500 Internal Error' returned. I've tried adding p_out as an X-APEX-FORWARD parameter, but nothing seems to work.
I am using oracle 11.2.0 in linux platform.i have created a listener for the asm database. and i am using non default port of 1525 whenever i go for lsnrctl>status always shows for the port 1521. i don't want the default port 1521 and i have changed the local listener as listener1 with port 1525 protool tcp in spfile and registered with the asm database.Is there any option to change the default listener as listener1.
also,everytime when i give lsnrctl>show current_listener it is showing "listener"
i have set the current-listener to listener1 and save_config listener1 and reloaded.After exit and enter lsnrctl>status it will show for port 1521 When i attempt to start listener1 every time. it will prompt listener1 is already running.
In one of our RAC envrionment, we have more than 15 databases in a server running in AIX Operating system.the Listener file I am able to find only one entry (SID). But while trying to execute lsnrctl status it displays all the 15 SIDs in the list hosted in the ser ver. Not sure how it works?
As we created another one new database in the database, where i need to add this SID in the listener.ora file to reload the listener.
my reports were running fine a day ago and now its showing this error .wat could be the possible reason . as if i feel the error has sprung out of no where.

We have implemented a approval notification for our customer which on a high level is as follows
requester -> Approver 1-> Approver 2
Once a request is submitted, the 'approval' notification goes to Approver 1 followed by Approver 2. The request is approved when both approves approve the request. If no action is taken by the approvers, the original notifications are cancelled and escalation notification is sent to supervisor of approver 2.
We have a timeout of 48 hours set for the initial approval notifications sent to the approvers (1 & 2). In case Approver 2 requests for more information using the 'Request information' button, the TIMEOUT clock does not seem to reset and the notification is cancelled after 48 hrs even if the notification is in the queue of the requester.
This is causing the escalation notification to be supervisor of approver 2.
The question here is why does the timeout clock not reset when the notification goes back to the requester for additional information. Is this how the standard oracle workflow notification behaves ? Is there a way to customize and achieve this ?
