Server Administration :: ORA-19821 / Intentionally Corrupt Log File Was Found
Aug 15, 2011
don't know if I can repeat it. It occured while converting a database to archivelog mode, after completing a Data Pump export/import upgrade from 11.1.0.7. I fixed it like this: juno> startup mount;
ORACLE instance started.
Total System Global Area 1.7108E+10 bytes
Fixed Size 2175440 bytes
Variable Size 8858373680 bytes
Database Buffers 8220835840 bytes
Redo Buffers 26886144 bytes
Database mounted.
juno> alter database archivelog; alter database archivelog
ERROR at line 1: ORA-19821: an intentionally corrupt log file was found
juno> recover database until cancel; Media recovery complete.
juno> alter database open resetlogs;
Database altered.
juno> shu immediate;
Database closed.
Database dismounted.
ORACLE instance shut down.
juno> startup mount;
ORACLE instance started.

I've recently moved jobs and am doing a lot of the normal things getting familiar with my new company's databases.I was checking through our production backup logs and came across something that looks a little funny. From the last two days backups, I see:
select completion_time, marked_corrupt, media_corrupt, logically_corrupt from v$backup_datafile where controlfile_type = 'B' order by completion_time desc
The 01:40 record will come from our nightly command:
BACKUP INCREMENTAL LEVEL=0 FILESPERSET=20 FORMAT 'full_%d_%t_%s_%p' DATABASE INCLUDE CURRENT CONTROLFILE
The 11AM records will come from the command:
BACKUP INCREMENTAL LEVEL=0 FORMAT 'ctl_%t_%s_%p' CURRENT CONTROLFILE;
(I know backups shouldn't still be running at 11am and we don't need level 0 backups every night, that's a seperate issue I'll be addressing! ) I see there's been a similar entry here in v$backup_datafile for all backups that there's records for. The database is up and running just fine. There are no unusual errors being reported by the database in OEM or the alert log.I tried looking at both our control files (yes, should have 3 - something else I've listed to change!) with dbverify which showed no issues - though I'm not sure if this is designed to work with control files.
If so, how could I confirm whether it's an issue with a specific controlfile (I'm assuming it's not an issue with the backup to tape itself, as it's reporting the same corruption every day)?I'd obviously like to diagnose this now while the db is up and running, rather than at 4am some morning during a crash and finding out my backup control files are no good!
I am not able to get the relevant segment from the above information
SQL> select segment_name, segment_type, owner 2 from dba_extents 3 where file_id = 4 4 and 756652 between block_id 5 and block_id + blocks -1;

I have uploaded the complete logfile.

On last Saturday we encountered error 'TNS-12519: TNS:no appropriate service handler found" in our listener log for some moment of time let say around 5mins and later it got all right itself.
i have two tablespaces dictionary managed (SYSTEM,APPLSYSX) i tried to change to locally cause it will cause problem in future when trying to run OATM migration.i did it successfully on APPLSYSX,when i did it on system upon oracle procedure.i have to change all tablespaces to read only when i did that with tablespace APPLSYSD(alter tablespace APPLSYSD read only) i received errors
SQL> alter tablespace APPLSYSD READ ONLY; alter tablespace APPLSYSD READ ONLY * ERROR at line 1: ORA-01230: cannot make read only - file 636 is offline ORA-01111: name for data file 636 is unknown - rename to correct file ORA-01110: data file 636: '/vol5u/oracle/prddb/9.2.0/dbs/MISSING00636' i have not this file on the OS
after apply patch 10.2.0.4 for 2 10gr2 node i tried to start asm on 2 node but i found that the 1st node (master node) can not started but the second node is ok and this error found in trace file for lmon.trc

I have a question ragarding undo tablespace. I want to ask that why only undo tablespace information we need to specify in parameter file. We do not specify any other tablespace information. Not even for temporary tablespace. Then why we need to give undo tablespace name while instance is creating.
I noticed my DB is generating a lot of "small" .arc files and I am usure why. As you can see from the v$log query my log file size is set to 50MB. But yet BLOCKS*BLOCK_SIZE never adds up to 50MB.
Is there anything else I can look into to see how to make the .arc files larger?
SP file was removed during the testing and I started the database after making some changes in the pfile, and it works fine. But when I try to start the database using the SPFILE, it gives an error.
when i try to install Oracle 10g (10.1.0.2) 64- bits on windows server 2003 enterprise edition 64 bits service pack1 and i try for windows server 2003 standard edition 64 bits on a pc,i am getting the below error.
the image file E: is valid, but it is for a machine type other than current machine
I am trying to create a new controlfile. I used "alter database backup controlfile to trace;" and then I copied and pasted the contents of the trace file into the .sql file. My sql script is
Actually, the name of my database was 'STAR' and I changed it to "FIVESTAR" int this .sql script. Now when I run this script with SQL> @ <path of my sql script>, it gives me the following errors:
ERROR at line 1: ORA-01503: CREATE CONTROLFILE failed ORA-01504: database name 'FIVESTAR' does not match parameter db_name 'STAR'
redo generation. As I found the below statement in another forum."Undo segment generates the redo data also, because undo segment is database changes, so it generates the redo data also."
How a Undo segment can generate Redo and Undo datas.
I was doing some R&D on my test machine trying to understand how controlfile works. I started up my db and then deleted (renamed)the controlfiles at OS level. I was expecting the db to shutdown. But it dint. Moreover when i queried select name from v$controlfile; it was still reflecting the old controlfile names. To check if it was still functioning, i created a new tablespace with one file and it also got created without any error.
What i dint understand is how could the db still be running when the control file was'nt there and new tablespace and datafile get created? As i understand, whenever a new file is created, an entry is made in the control file. But when control file dint exist where was the data about new tablespace and datafile written?
Not able to understand what's wrong with the code. I am trying to import data to a table using a CSV file. I have exported the data (CSV) from the interactive report and I am just trying to insert the same data to the table, through a process. When, I tried to do so; its throwing an error message saying NO_DATA_FOUND and file is not getting inserted into wwv_flow_files table.
But when I removed the data from the CSV file for the comments field and then tried importing the file, the process worked. I don't understand whats the problem with the code.
I have a sample app setup in my workspace for this weird problem.

Workspace details:
CSV file with comments field and data in it - when trying to import - throws an error message NO_DATA_FOUND
CSV file with comments field and without data in it - tried importing - this worked
I have installed oracle 11.2 on virtual machine and made two copy of this vm i.e vm1 and vm2...i have taken fullbackup with rman on vm1 and autobackup of control file.Now i want to restore this backup on vm2, for this i have configured channel and other setting. run following command
catalog start with '\server3database_backup manC-3507808503-20130531-00';
"C-3507808503-20130531-00" is the name of control file autobackup.
RESTORE CONTROLFILE ;
it gives me error RMAN-06496: must use the TO clause when the database is mounted or open...then i use following command
RESTORE CONTROLFILE to 'C:oracleAdministratororadataslate';
then it gives me error RMAN-06024: no backup or copy of the control file found to restore...how to restore control file to vm2
I mistakenly added a datafile to a tablespace which is asm, however the datafile was created in a default location and not the asm location:
alter tablespace pdaiidata1 add datafile '<filename>' size 2048M;
What I should have done:
alter tablepsace <tablespace_name> add datafile '+DATA1' size 2048M;
Is there any way to move this filesystem datafile into the asm tablespace? In previous Oracle versions, I've taken a tablespace offline, moved a datafile, renamed it, then brought the tablespace back online. Can I do something similar here in this situation?
