I have a database of branch A whose files are located in E: Drive. I want to download it in branch B.I placed all the files of Branch A in D: Drive of Branch B. When i start the database i was getting controlfle error. I made required corrections in initorcl.ora. Now when i start the Database,its mounted, but I am getting ORA-01157: Cannot identify datafile 1. I tried to rename the file, but the "alter database rename file1 to file2;" option is not working.

Now how do I identify the object EMP is residing on which datafile in USERS tablespace?
I'm rying to import schema's from a dump file that came from a different environment.
What I have is:
1. dump file
2. log file of the export
I'm trying to import the file(containing three schemas) with remap_schemas, and it fails, gives a lot of ORA-00959: tablespace 'string' does not exist.
Now, I've read in OTN:
[URL]
that what you need to do in that case is to use the REMAP_TABLESPACE option,to redirect the objects to a different tablespace.
I don't see a name of the tablespace I'm getting the error for in the export log.I don't know if I have more tablespaces I have to redirect with REMAP_TABLESPACE.
I don't want to perform this 3 times, have an error, by that find out what's the next tablespace needing redirection and only then starting over...
How can I know from the dump file and the log file,what is the tablespace names i need for the redirection to my names? Or its just that the tablespace giving me the error is the only one in the dump file?
Possible to call a tnsnames file from master tnsnames like the principle of ifile in the init.ora...My primary tnsnames.ora has a lot of development entries which are repointed frequently, it would work with logistics if I could manage these in a second tns file and load from primary so when my dev instances are repointed I'm not editing the master tnsnames
View 4 Replies View Relatedwe have an environment with many Oracle databases in different versions (v8, V9, V10 and V11). Besides that, there are many versions of the Oracle Client in use, ranging from V6 to V11. Many of the clients have a TNSnames.ORA and as was to eb expected, many of these are old as well with a lot of (by now) invalid information in there.
Is there any reasonable maximum size to the TNSnames.ORA file?What are the consequences from going over the max size? Are there alternatives to using TNSnames.ora which you would recommend?

However, during the process of bringing up the Oracle and SAP database, I observed that there could be some archive logs went missing. I had tried to check them from my backup tape, but could not find it.
In short, now my SAP database is up and running, but I'm having another problem when I executed a "CheckDB" job in DB13. The job is unable to complete successfully

I have a question ragarding undo tablespace. I want to ask that why only undo tablespace information we need to specify in parameter file. We do not specify any other tablespace information. Not even for temporary tablespace. Then why we need to give undo tablespace name while instance is creating.

I was doing some R&D on my test machine trying to understand how controlfile works. I started up my db and then deleted (renamed)the controlfiles at OS level. I was expecting the db to shutdown. But it dint. Moreover when i queried select name from v$controlfile; it was still reflecting the old controlfile names. To check if it was still functioning, i created a new tablespace with one file and it also got created without any error.
What i dint understand is how could the db still be running when the control file was'nt there and new tablespace and datafile get created? As i understand, whenever a new file is created, an entry is made in the control file. But when control file dint exist where was the data about new tablespace and datafile written?
I mistakenly added a datafile to a tablespace which is asm, however the datafile was created in a default location and not the asm location:
alter tablespace pdaiidata1 add datafile '<filename>' size 2048M;
What I should have done:
alter tablepsace <tablespace_name> add datafile '+DATA1' size 2048M;
Is there any way to move this filesystem datafile into the asm tablespace? In previous Oracle versions, I've taken a tablespace offline, moved a datafile, renamed it, then brought the tablespace back online. Can I do something similar here in this situation?
