SQL & PL/SQL :: Record Event If No Rows Are Returned Between Two Timestamp?

Feb 21, 2013

I have employees under a supervisor defines as below:

select LOGIN_USER_ID from APPWMS.VIEW_EMP_LATEST_INFO where SPVSR_LOGIN_USER_ID='erbrand' and EMP_STAT_CODE='ACTIVE'

Now I need to determine if all above employees are clocked in , clocked out or not clocked between yesterday and today using following:

select to_char(CLOCK_IN_DATE,'dd-mon-yyyy hh24:mi:ss' ) ClockIn,to_char(CLOCK_OUT_DATE,'dd-mon-yyyy hh24:mi:ss' ) ClockOut ,LOGIN_USER_ID,--CLOCK_IN_DATE,CLOCK_OUT_DATE, CLOCK_OUT_DATE-CLOCK_IN_DATE,trunc(sysdate) , trunc(sysdate-1),
case when CLOCK_OUT_DATE is null then
'Not clocked out'
else

[code]....

The first SQL gives me 66 rows while second gives me 40 rows. For 26 people , no rows are returned which means these people donot have a clock in record between two timestamps.

How can we modify query to show those 26 people as 'Not clocked In'

Date To Timestamp Conversion Of Column With 150 Million Rows?

Oct 5, 2010

Due to some business requirements a table field needs to change from date to timestamp in order to handle the millisecs.

1>When i alter the row , for a table with 150 million recs will there be a conversion. Is there a recommended way to convert the field. Mind you this field is used as a part of composite PK.

2> There is a interfacing application which connects and copies the data to its system and is using the date type, will that application be able to continue to work without any changes, if it does not care about the millisecs.

3> Will there be performance impact on an existing application that uses the date field to sort

4> Will DB need more space due to the change

Select Vs Order By

Nov 9, 2006

In a query which gets executed first:

Select clause or Order by clause? First the columns specified in the select clause are fetched and then ordered or is it the vice -versa? In a query if a psuedo-column rownum is selected, then if we use order by on the rownum column, what happens?

What would be the output of the following query and why?Which part of the query is first executed, is it select clause or order by clause?

select empno,ename,rownum from emp order by rownum desc;

SQL & PL/SQL :: Select With Order In Self-reference Table?

Jun 25, 2012

I have the following table:

CREATE TABLE test_A(member_id NUMBER(2) PRIMARY KEY, MEMBER_name VARCHAR2(20), MEMBER_parent NUMBER(2) DEFAULT NULL);
INSERT ALL
INTO test_A VALUES (1, 'mem1', NULL)
INTO test_A VALUES (2, 'mem2', NULL)
INTO test_A VALUES (3, 'mem3', NULL)
INTO test_A VALUES (4, 'mem4', 1)
INTO test_A VALUES (5, 'mem5', 1)

[code]....

As the actual data is huge, I need to know the best (least expensive) way to select each parent and then all its direct child ordered by member_id the output should look like:

1mem1(null)
4mem41
5mem51
6mem61
2mem2(null)
7mem72
8mem82
10mem102
3mem3(null)
9mem93
11mem113

Default In (order By) Select Query Different In 11g From 10g?

Nov 12, 2013

if when you are querying a table in 11g and you use the order by clause and there is more than one occurrences with the same values in the order by, if the 11g default is different than from 10g.

For instance.

DECLARE MHBulk CURSOR FOR                          select invoice_nbr,               customer_nbr,                post_century,                post_yymmdd,     from CUSTOMERS     where customer_nbr = 1234     order by           post_century,           post_yymmdd;

If you have more than one occurrence of the same customer_nbr, post_century, and post_yymmdd

it looks like the default order for how 11g retrieves the records is a bit different than the 10g default.

SQL & PL/SQL :: View Not Having ORDER BY Clause In SELECT Statement?

Jun 13, 2010

currently i m going through some dumps for my OCA-11g prep.I came across one sentence :A view cannot have an ORDER BY clause in the SELECT statement.well this statement is false and the explanation given was :

Query operations containing ORDER BY clause are also permitted, so long as the ORDER BY clause appears outside the parentheses.

The following is an example of what I mean: CREATE VIEW my_view AS (SELECT*FROM emp) ORDER BYempno.

but when i tried running the query like this :CREATE VIEW my_view AS SELECT*FROM emp ORDER BYempno ,it worked w/o giving parentheses.

col name start_date ; type=date; format=dd-mmm-yy
col name end_date ; type=date; format=dd-mmm-yy

my sql is: SELECT id, start_date, end_date FROM offers WHERE (active='1' AND start_date<='14-SEP-09' AND end_date>='14-SEP-09');

However the results are not right. Example, the first row returned is: Offer5000312 01-JAN-09 11-DEC-08

This is not correct. Due to the end_date this row should not be part of the results.
