We have a scenario where Oracle Database R1 is installed on Windows System and the Client is present on Linux. Both the system is on same network. We can access Windows -2-Windows using TNS entry.
I am unable to connect to this scenario where Database is on Windows and Client is on Linux.
why it's offline , what this means , what the useuage of this? did have any affect on database availability? the below it's from OEM

Data Base Configuration assistant for create new database not working in oracle 8.1.7 in windows server 2000 / server 2003 how can i create new database
I m using Windows Vista Business 32 bit , Oracle 10.2.0.3
while running my setup so many time i got same error each and every time Error:12560 TNS Protocol Adapter error and it shows me i attached my screen shot with my thread , and remember i already installed earlier but at that time there was no error and successfully installed, i removed the total software before installing and i also removed my environment variable and after getting this Database Configuration Assistant failure there is no service is started regarding my database.. I also tried manually but there also i got some other problem if by Database Configuration Assistant it ll b solved then it ll be good for me.
I am trying to install Oracle 10g RAC clusterware on RHEL-ES-4 using vmware. everything works properly till the time root.sh on second node.
I am getting the below error.
Adding daemons to inittab Expecting the CRS daemons to be up within 600 seconds. Failure at final check of Oracle CRS stack. 10
After googling this topic, I found I have to check this first below
This particular case is caused by the OS init system does not working.
" Failure at final check of Oracle CRS stack.10" means CRS daemon did not startup during 600 seconds period. In the root.sh script, it adds CRS related entry in /etc/inittab, run "init q" and expect 3 CRS related daemon processes to start, eg:
init.cssd init.crsd init.evmd
With init system problem, none of these daemon processes are spawned, this causes CRS process startup failure as they rely on the CRS daemon processes to start first.
This can be verified by adding a simple entry in /etc/inittab:
I've installed without problems Oracle 8.0.5 on WS 2003. After installation I've created 8 databases, with the utility Database Configuration Assistant (dbassist, executed by launch80.exe).
After that, the DBAssist doesn't run anymore.
I've tried EVERYTHING. And I have no success, Im stuck. And I need to create several databases.
i am installing oracle database 8.1.7 on dell server power edge 2650 first time database successfully installed but when i want to crate new database by Database Configuration Assistant it is not working for new database creation.
I'm using Oracle10.0 as database for my project and I have installed Toad as front end tool for the Oracle. Now I want to access the database in the network using the Toad.
My question is, is it compulsory that oracle should be installed in every system to access Toad or any thing can I change in the server system to access the database from other systems in the Network.
I want to create two or three sachems on my production server which should be the same copy of my another second production server. And I access this second server through VPN connection on toad9.0.1. And I access my production server through VNC viewer and database through toad.
How cloud I create schema on my first prod. server from second server.
Running a Dell x86_64 machine using CentOS 6.4 Install using the command: rpm -ivh oracle-xe-11.2.0-1.0.x86_64.rpmOracle XE installs without any errors.

i've perform a stress test of a database in 2 configuration :
1) Single instance 11.2 with 8gb Sga e 4gb Pga on Linux, 6core with instance caging =4, resource_manager=defaut_plan
2) 2 Nodes Rac 11.2 with 8gb Sga e 4gb Pga in both nodes on Linux, 32core with instance caging =4, resource_manager=defaut_plan.
I've used Swingbench and the transaction per minute are equal, Avg transaction per s in rac are Greater then single instance (4ms vs 40ms).I know that rac is not for high performance. My question is: is rac config best than single instance and if yes what is the %?
Did i make the right steps? Can i go on now? I don't know if what I did was correct and ok and that I should already consider that package as installed.
I managed to upload images to a database server, resize them, copy to the application server and everything worked just fine - the Apex page successfully displayed images. Since last week, things have broken. This is how: there's a directory object which points to application server's directory:
SQL> select * from all_directories;
OWNER DIRECTORY_NAME DIRECTORY_PATH ------- ------------------------------ ----------------------------------- SYS SLIKE_4005_UPLOAD d:gisslike_4005_upload --> on a database server SYS SLIKE_4005 \my-iasd$homegisslike_4005 --> on an application server
SQL>
I can use a directory located on a database server:
D:GISSlike_4005_upload>dir photo_resize.* Volume in drive D is RAID Volume Serial Number is 88F2-69D2 Directory of D:GISSlike_4005_upload [code]....
How come it doesn't work? I was absent last week, database server was restarted for some reason (there were Windows' updates which required restarting). After that, all applications (lucky us, just two of them, but in multiple procedures/functions) return FALSE for UTL_FILE.FGETATTR.
We recreated directory objects, but that didn't work (UNC or not, no difference). I Googled quite a lot, read Metalink notes - nothing I did solved the problem.
what these OS updates were about; maybe they are not to be blamed at all. Both servers (database & application) run MS Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition Service Pack 2. In the meantime, a colleague developed a workaround (it uses UTL_HTTP) which works, but it is MUCH slower than the previous UTL_FILE.FGETATTR option.
Why don't we keep these images on the database server (instead of the application server)?I was told that Apache is incapable of accessing mapped network directories so we used what we could.
My problem is if i start sudo /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure i get Database Configuration failed. Look into /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/xe/config/log for detailsI use a plain installed Ubuntu 12.04 and try the instructions of the Oracle 11gR2 Express Edition on Linux Ubuntu 11.10 howto. Also i installed Ubuntu 11.10 and tryed is, but the same error happens.
On the install script i get:
toxsox@vm3:~/Disk1$ sudo dpkg --install ./oracle-xe_11.2.0-2_amd64.debVormals abgewähltes Paket oracle-xe wird gewählt. (Lese Datenbank ... 23051 Dateien und Verzeichnisse sind derzeit installiert.) I had changed the /etc/init.d/oracle-shm so how Dude wrote it to mount --move /run/shm /dev/shmmount -B /dev/shm /run/shm>
i also tryed some other instuctions for 12.04 and Oracle XE but without success. I never hat the ORA-00845: MEMORY_TARGET but everytime the ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist Error.
I work as a Sys. Admin. for several RHEL 3.8 servers, most of them are clusters of 2 machines. All these servers are running Oracle 9.2.0.7 database. They are running fine on a separate filesystem. So everytime the system has to be formatted for some particular reason, there is no need to re-install the database.
I am trying to make some tests by running the same filesystem containing the oracle database in a fresh Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.8 X86_64 Install. This task has become impossible, and I'm not quite sure why.
I installed all the compat- packages required for a fresh oracle 9 install in a RHEL4 machine, but at the time of stating the STARTUP sentence, it gives me the next error:
CMCLI ERROR: OpenCommPort: connect failed with error 2. CMCLI ERROR: OpenCommPort: connect failed with error 2. CMCLI ERROR: OpenCommPort: connect failed with error 2. CMCLI ERROR: OpenCommPort: connect failed with error 2. CMCLI ERROR: OpenCommPort: connect failed with error 2.
After this error (repeated) it says something like: Cannot start an already running database.... But if i stat a shutdown sentence, it says that the instance has not been initialized....
I don't know whether i have to re-install all the oracle software in order to make a clean install in the new kernel version or not, i tried to apply a patch, and the oracle installer recognized the installation i had.
I think it might be because the original system is configured to work as a cluster, and i'm running it on only a virtual machine.
I have stand alone 11gR2 database. Do I need to configure the listener and have the tnsnames.ora file entries under Grid home and start the listener from Grid home or do I need to start from Oracle database home?
I have a client program that needs to communicate with another server program. My client program is implemented in PL/SQL using utl_tcp running on Oracle 9 while the server program is a 3rd party software running on Windows server 2003.
Basically my client program needs to send a request to the server, waits for the response (wait for the incoming string which ended /w chr(3) ) and then acknowledge (sending chr(6) ).
My problem is that if I wait for the chr(3) and then acknowledge. My send routine (l_sent := utl_tcp.write_text (g_conn, p_content) will raise a Oracle generic network error. It seems like the connection is closed. I checked /w the vendor and they said it might be I am taking too long to response ( I question timeout is the problem). I have also attempted to change my read routine from read_line to read_raw but it only make things worst. I cannot even read the complete string. At least with read_line, I can read back the entire string.
My current work around is to send out the ack before I receive the chr(3) (which is not recommended by our vendor).
Oracle Restart 11.2.0.3 w/ASM. To improve redundancy we're planning to change the network configuration in our Oracle Restart environment from using 1 LAN interface to a bonded interface consisting of 2 interfaces. So the change will be from using "eth0" to using "bond0" consisting of "eth0" and "eth1". Are there any changes that must be done in the Oracle Restart configuration to reflect these changes?
ISSUE : I have to create ORACLE 10G R2 RAC. This cluster will host two databases pre-prod and prod. Both databases will be on different networks. pre-prod on 10.88.119 and prod on 10.88.118. I just have two hosts forming the this cluster.
How can i configure my hosts file and during clusterware installation what entries should i make for hosts and interfaces. Can this be done in 10g or will have to switch to 11g.
I've looked in several places, OTN, Google, various DBA forums to figure out if the way we have a client installed on a network drive is supported by Oracle - short of asking them if it's supported.
The configuration we have is a full 10g R2 client installed on a network drive, and the various environment variables (Oracle_Home, TNS_ADMIN, etc.) point to that network location for use by client machines (I'm also trying to see if the Instant client is supported on a network location as well.) We've had this set up for years which has served us well.
A co-worker remembers years ago that this set up wasn't supported, Oracle 8 or so was his thought as to what version was used then. Another coworker at an Oracle conference asked this same question and was told that it was supported, however we can't find any documentation to that effect.
Now the question arises as to whether or not using a client installed on a networked drive is a supported configuration for 10g R2 or higher, and if so, where it would be documented.
We are in the process of changing network topology and are reviewing whether this configuration is still the right thing for us or if clients should be installed locally to where they are used.
We are in the design phase of a project and wanting to implement a 4 node RAC with a DR site. However to get around some licensing costs, management are insisting that only 1 node be up accepting data at the DR site. In the event of a disaster, the remaining nodes will be switched on.
i have installed oracle 11g r2 rac with 2 nodes. i want to configure the client side load balancing and server side load balancing. For the client side load balancing the i have configured with the
now i have few questions: 1. for the server side load balancing do we have to configure the REMOTE_LISTENER on each node so that the instance on each node registers with the listeners on other node. 2. if we have 3 nodes does this mean that we have to configure the REMOTE_LISTENER on 3 nodes to register with the listeners on the other remaining 2 nodes. 3. does the listener have to be registered with the vip network address (where the clients usually use to connect).
I newly joined Oracle 11g DB related project. That oracle environment own our customer and we have only limited time and access to that DB.
I could login that database by SQLPlus by sys user as sysdba but I do not know any DB configurations. How could I collect Oracle 11g DB configuration information from SQLPlus ?
