I Hope about 5 hours and the message is the same, while when i hope about 5 hours.
We are planning to upgrade a database from 9.2.0.8.0 to 10.2.0.4.0.We have a lot a PRO*C programs pre compiled using 9.2.0.8.0 (and most likely even 9.2.0.7.0) compiler.
if we could upgrade the database without having to re-compile all the programs. We have tested this approach against some of our programs. Most of them executed fine - but in 2 cases we are getting "ORA-01001 invalid cursor". I suspect, that the case is that Pre compiler version 9 is not supported against 10g databases - but I am not sure.
Would it be a better option to upgrade Pre compiler/client as the first step and the db as the second step (and would that be supported) ? We definitely don't want to upgrade both Pre compiler/Client and the Database in one goal - that would be too risky.
Get the following error when installing Oracle. I have java version "1.7.0_05" and based on the log, it appears that Oracle is trying to install the binaries using an older version of java (1.5.0).
# An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine: # # SIGSEGV (0xb) at pc=0x00000030b7014d70, pid=2615, tid=140142440847120 # # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (1.5.0_17-b03 mixed mode) # Problematic frame: # C [ld-linux-x86-64.so.2+0x14d70] #
I am configuring Grid Infrastructure 11g2 on node A, one of two cluster nodes, and getting the following message: [INS-40916] Single-instance versions of Cluster Synchronization Services (CSS) are detected.
I executed runInstaller and installed software-only on both A and B nodes. It apparently the other node has already CSS instance running, and maybe caused by the installation.I remove the software from A first?
How do I stop CSS on the node A, and let the configuratoin to continue on this node B
We are having a problem trying to automate our 11g database startup on a Linux Platform (Redhat). This is the procedure we followed.
1. Logged in as the root user.
2. Edited the oratab file for the platform.
vi /etc/oratab db:/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1:Y
3. Create a file called dbora in /etc/init.d directory
4. Entered the following in dbora:
#! /bin/sh -x # # Change the value of ORACLE_HOME to specify the correct Oracle home # directory for your installation. ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1
[Code] .....
4. Changed permissions of dbora
chgrp dba dbora chmod 750 dbora
5. Created symbolic links to the dbora script in the appropriate run-level script directories:
I want to restart a 10g database on ASM ? startp and shutdown sequence?I would like to shutdown everything including database, ASM and cluster and startup again
I read at various places but not sure of the sequence For database DB with database instance DB01 and DB02 having ASM instances ASM01 and ASM02 on node1 and node2, I understand following would be the sequence
1) Login as root on node1 cd $CRS_HOME/bin ./crsctl start crs
2) Login as root on node2 cd $CRS_HOME/bin ./crsctl start crs
3) login as oracle on node1 $ORACLE_HOME/bin/srvctl start nodeapps -n node1
4) login as oracle on node2 $ORACLE_HOME/bin/srvctl start nodeapps -n node2
5) login as oracle on node1 start ASM instance on node1 $ORACLE_HOME/bin/srvctl start asm01 -n node1
6) login as oracle on node2 start ASM instance on node2 $ORACLE_HOME/bin/srvctl start asm02 -n node2
7) Start oracle database (from any node) $ORACLE_HOME/bin/srvctl start database -d DB
A. confirm if the above sequence is correct? B. This sequence if corrrect, is same for 10g and 11g? C. Is shutdown sequence exact reverse of the above?

ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress
the strange thing is "lkinstrdmetdev" is the wrong name(sid is rdmetdev), and the file does not exist in the FS too. the correct file name should be "lkrdmetdev" and i've deleted this file from the directory. I did not do any changes. and no any oralce processes running while i started up the oracle instance.

I am running ORACLE 10.2.0 on Windows Virtual PC. System: Microsoft Windows XP SP3.
Yesterday I wanted to make a copy of my Virtual Machine Hard Drive Image. I directly copied all the files to my external hard drive, but I forgot shutting down my virtual machine when I was doing this.
Today I found my instance failed startup.
In OEM, it is showing:
Agent Connection to Instance Status: Failed Details ORA-12505: TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach)
In SQLPlus:
SQL> connect sys/password as sysdba Connected to an idle instance SQL> startup ORACLE instance started.
My question is; I've been reading the Oracle database 11g R2 documentation at this link [URL]...
I passed a couple of days learning about all installation configuration parts including the desktop class and server class. As I was learning, So I had already downloaded Oracle Database Express 11g R2 for win32.
So as i had finished the installation guide I thought it's time to install the oracle now. I did it, and what I found was that there was not any option during installation that i read in above documentation. While trying to find about this difference i reached on documentation[URL]...
That is for express version only.
My question here is, Express edition, we use for learning purpose, But it doesn't look like it has all the stuff that we should learn during installation And what documentation I should follow from my above given two links?
I downloaded the 11G 64bit for windows and unzipped the files into one folder and ran the setup.exe as an administrator. It opened up the java screen and I chose, create and configure a database. Next screen I chose, Desktop Class, when I click next it dies. It does not show me teh next screen. I went to the appdata folder and saw this error but not sure what to do EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005).
Find an appropriate script to automate Oracle DBs in one server? This db server have 6 instances. We always done the starting up and shutting down manually, although we have a reference script that does this but in Oracle v7.3.4. We do want to include the automatic start/stop of dbconsole for accessing it via OEM.
I want the DB to startup with SPFILE at next login. So i fired the below command.
CREATE SPFILE='path/SPFILEPRAGAT.ORA' FROM PFILE='path/file.ora'.
But it shows the error as below:
ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameters ORA-27040: file create error, unable to create file OSD-04002: unable to open file O/S-Error: (os 123) The filename, directory name,or volume label syntax is incorrect.
I am trying to upgrade the database 32bit from 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.4 version in Linux 32 bit . I faced the version incompatibility error during patch set installation and hence ran the patchset installation with -ignoresysprereqs option.
Now during the patchset installation i encountered the below error in in the install logfile. ************************************** INFO: Start output from spawned process: INFO: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- INFO: INFO: /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/bin/genclntsh INFO: genclntsh: genclntsh: Could not locate /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/network/admin/shrept.lst INFO: make: INFO: *** [client_sharedlib] Error 1 INFO: INFO: End output from spawned process. what does mean VERSION_TIME column in V$DATABASE;i know that there is an other column which is called CREATED which indicates when the database has been created and i think it will never change, but, what about VERSION_TIME ? when does it change ?
what version of java is supported by Oracle Database 10g and 11g. Actually i am writing a User Defined Function in Java and was asking this question to know which version of java i need to compile the source file before uploading the jar.
I recently installed Oracle 10g on my windows Xp laptop. It has become considerably slow since then. I want to start the database server only when I need it, and not every time I start my laptop. I looked around in OEM and did found a way.
