im new to DBA.i installed oracle on my pc but im not able to startup database...im manually creating database ..CRD files r still not created as im unable to startup nomount..im getting this error.
SQL> startup nomount
ORA-24324: service handle not initialized
ORA-24323: value not allowed

If i connect with scott user ,following message occurs ,
ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress
I recently installed Oracle 10g on my windows Xp laptop. It has become considerably slow since then. I want to start the database server only when I need it, and not every time I start my laptop. I looked around in OEM and did found a way.
Find an appropriate script to automate Oracle DBs in one server? This db server have 6 instances. We always done the starting up and shutting down manually, although we have a reference script that does this but in Oracle v7.3.4. We do want to include the automatic start/stop of dbconsole for accessing it via OEM.
I want the DB to startup with SPFILE at next login. So i fired the below command.
CREATE SPFILE='path/SPFILEPRAGAT.ORA' FROM PFILE='path/file.ora'.
But it shows the error as below:
ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameters ORA-27040: file create error, unable to create file OSD-04002: unable to open file O/S-Error: (os 123) The filename, directory name,or volume label syntax is incorrect.
I am trying to find the unix process for one of my application in the database but I am unable to view the same. To simulate, I did the following.
1. My database runs on different server. 2. I invoked "sqlplus" from another unix box to login to the database. 3. I found that the process id (ps -ef |grep sqlplus). 4. When I execute the below mentioned query it does not display the process id that I am looking for. But the osuser, username, program and machine details are correct. How can I know the process details from the database?
SELECT SYS.GV_$SESSION.OSUSER, SYS.GV_$SESSION.USERNAME, SYS.GV_$PROCESS.SPID, SYS.GV_$SESSION.MACHINE, SYS.GV_$SESSION.PROGRAM, SYS.GV_$PROCESS.PROGRAM ,SYS.GV_$SESSION.SQL_ID FROM SYS.GV_$PROCESS, SYS.GV_$SESSION WHERE SYS.GV_$PROCESS.ADDR=SYS.GV_$SESSION.PADDR and SYS.GV_$SESSION.USERNAME='TEST' and SYS.GV_$SESSION.MACHINE like '%hostname%'
I have installed Oracle in workgroup, while i workgroup it is working fine. But latter I have change the server from workgroup to domain. At that time Oracle was not working , not able to connect. After that I change the Domain to workgroup again. And same problem exist. But I found that lsnrctl is working fine. But OracleServiceXXX is not able to startup in services.msc
I am installing Oracle 12c R1 on Windows 2012. The windows is configured as a domain controller. I am logged in as the domain administrator.I created a normal domain user -- DomainNameORACUSER. I provided this as the existing user id during Oracle installation.
The software installs fine, but when creating the DB using the database configuration assistant, an error is shown "error in process:...inoradim.exe. Enter password for Oracle service user: DIM-00019: create service error. O/S-Error: (OS 87) The parameter is incorrect". The DB is not created.
I skipped the db creation and completed the installation. When tried to create the db using the database configuration assistant after installation, I received the same error.I performed the same installation on Windows 8 and was successful in creating the db.
I have installed a database in D drive. I want to create another database in the same machine. I tried installing the new database using DBCA. Installation was ok. I added entry in TNS file.
When i try to login to this new database from other machine, i am unable to connect to this database. I made an entry in TNS on my local machine. It says the user id /password is wrong, even though they r correct. I am using the same password to delete the database.
I migrated one database ( DB1) from old database server to new database server where user accounts were locked before migrating the database. But migration was successful and database and accounts got created in new database server.
In old database server , user accounts status is locked and in new database server user accounts are open but still i am unable to connect to database using new user in new database server.
why im unable to connect to database whose accounts are open?
I have installed oracle 11g Release 11.1.0.1 on windows server 2008.I access this server from a client machine running on winXP through SQL PLUS. I wanted to shutdown and start DB server from this client machine. Accordingly i issued shutdown immediate command from SQLPLUS.
Now when i tried to start the DB with "STARTUP NOMOUNT" command i received error 12514. I understand this error means that the listener received a request to establish connections to a database but since DB services are not up and running, hence the error. So my first question is how do I resolve this error.
Continuing further, i tried to re-connect to the database as sys, and i received another error ORA-01041. So, my second question is why did i receive this error and again how can i resolve it
may be you can point me to relevant reference in Oracle documentation) how can i start and stop oracle from a client machine using SQL interface in CLI mode and windows environment and avoid this error.
We are unable to drop user due to below error, how to drop the below user without shutdown the database.
SQL> drop user mvm_2010 cascade; drop user mvm_2010 cascade * ERROR at line 1: ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1 ORA-14452: attempt to create, alter or drop an index on temporary table already in use
We have created a new db link. But we are not able access the remote database. When we are trying to access any table using db link system is getting hanged.
We would like to know what are the parameters/permissions which affect the db link access either at data base level or at server level.
One observation we made is that that particular db link is not getting dropped when we tried to drop it.
I want to shutdown the database using shutdown immediate and startup the database using startup mount.
1.)My system is client system if I connect start--> program -->Accessories --> communication --> Remote Desktop connection (connect server system) , open Run type cmd after
Shutdown immediate (database is shutdown)
Startup mount (database is mounted no problem it's working fine)
2.) But if I, open Run type cmd in client system If I run same command, I'm getting below error (ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error).
C:>set oracle_sid=dbadb C:>sqlplus / as sysdba SQL*Plus: Release 10.1.0.2.0 - Production on ╘± ╠ß± 31 18:09:27 2009 Copyright (c) 1982, 2004, Oracle. All rights reserved. ERROR: ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
[code].....
3. If I run same command in Sql Plus I'm getting below error(ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor).
SQL*Plus: Release 10.1.0.2.0 - Production on Ôñ Ìáñ 31 18:23:13 2009 Copyright (c) 1982, 2004, Oracle. All rights reserved. Connected to: Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.1.0.2.0 - Production With the Partitioning, OLAP and Data Mining options
We are getting problem with the Chinese character set. My current character set is as follows.
PARAMETER VALUE ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- NLS_LANGUAGE AMERICAN NLS_TERRITORY AMERICA NLS_CURRENCY $ NLS_ISO_CURRENCY AMERICA NLS_NUMERIC_CHARACTERS ., [code]....
My column description for the table product is as follows.
when trying to insert Chinese character using the insert command below
insert into product(part_nbr,part_desc,cust_name) values('322341',unistr('功'),'test');
I am getting the value when selecting the same record using the select command
select a.part_nbr,a.part_desc,a.cust_name from product a where a.part_nbr='322341'322341¿test
When I running this command on TOAD
select a.rowid,a.part_nbr,a.part_desc,a.cust_name from product a where a.part_nbr='322341'
and manually editing/inserting '功' character in output from select command above. After that I am able to get the same Chinese character when I am running select next time.
In one machine I have windows xp with Oracle 11.2.0.2 database installed and I am able to connect to the database using both sql developer and sql plus.
In another machine I have windows 7. I installed Oracle client 11.2.0.1, then using Net configuration tool, I installed both listener.ora and tnsnames.ora files.
Now, I want to connect to the database which is installed on windows xp from windows 7 using the oracle client. When I tried to connect, I got the following error :
ERROR:ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
In order to rectify the above error, I was making sure that ORACLE_HOME AND ORACLE_SID were properly set in the regedit file (under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > ORACLE). The ORACLE_HOME was set properly. But I found ORACLE_SID missing. So I added ORACLE_SID environment variable in the registry and re-tried connecting to the database. But I am not able to connect. What else should I do in order to connect?
I searched the knowledge base here and in other forums and haven't found the answer. There was a similar condition presented earlier, but it turned out the resolution was to run the >shutdown/>startup on the server rather than from a client. Not applicable in my case!
Shutdown and startup called used to work with 9i, now startup fails in 10g. ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID are set and report correct values. What is different in 10g that the script (shown below) now throws a TNS listener error after shutdown?
I successfully upgraded from 9i to 10g (10.2.0.5.0) on Windows Server 2003, 32-bit last weekend. Now our backup_script.bat and oracle_stop_start.sql throw "ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in the connect descriptor"
This batch file and sql script predate me and worked with 9i for years. Now the startup command in the oracle_stop_start throws this error after executing shutdown. The backup batch file calls:
sqlplus "system/manager@wind as sysdba" @D:ptcwindchillackupsoracle_stop_start
The entire oracle_stop_start.sql is as follows:
shutdown immediate; startup open; quit
What is different in 10g that this now doesn't work? Shutdown works, but it will not startup due to the listener error. I have made the backups work by commenting out the call to sqlplus and I'm getting good backup dumps.
In my virtual image of the server I have found that I can duplicate the error after >shutdown. I have found that if I exit sql*plus and go back in as follows I can get the database instance to restart from the command line:
c:>sqlplus /nolog sql>connect sys/* as sysdba sql>startup open wind;
That does start, mount and open the database instance.
Is there a better way to be making sure that everything is stopped before executing the >exp command to create a backup dump? I will look into and test datapump export/import and RMAN for creating the backups, after I get this working again.
why this worked in sql*plus in 9i but not in 10g? Can I make TNS Listener smarter? Change or add variables to the startup command?
I am getting this error ( ORA-12516: TNS:listener could not find available handler with matching protocol stack ) When I am trying to connect to the server through my application in which I am using SOAP
I am trying to increase the size of sga or you can say that i want to make my sga in automatic memory management...Following is the steps i am trying
SQL> show parameter sga_max_size;
NAME TYPE VALUE ------------------------------------ ----------- ------------------------------ sga_max_size big integer 96M SQL>
after that i am trying to increase the size
SQL> alter system set sga_max_size = 200m; alter system set sga_max_size = 200m * ERROR at line 1: ORA-02095: specified initialization parameter cannot be modified
When ever error occurred as "Unable to extend extent", we do add either datafiles or increase the size (autoextend on).But in a interview, i was asked to handle the error without increasing size/adding new datafiles.
how can i handle this error without increasing size?
I have setup a RAC machine of two nodes on Oracle 10GR2(with 10.2.0.4 Patchset). All setup went well. I am able to connect one node from sqlplus but the other node is connected to idle instance. I tried to startup the database with mount and nomount option but it fails. Following is the error :
SQL> startup nomount; ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameters ORA-01565: error in identifying file '+DATA/LCLCLKS/spfileLCLCLKS.ora' ORA-17503: ksfdopn:2 Failed to open file +DATA/LCLCLKS/spfileLCLCLKS.ora ORA-15077: could not locate ASM instance serving a required diskgroup SQL>
I am using ASM and it is running on both nodes even I am able to connect the SQL prompt from it. I am able to view the diskgroups I created from the second node but through "asmcmd" option I can't go inside the disk group. It gives :
ASMCMD> ls DATA/ INDEX/ ASMCMD> cd DATA asmcmd: diskgroup 'data' does not exist or is not mounted
On first node, everything is fine and I am able to import the database on it, as well.
when i try to install Oracle 10g (10.1.0.2) 64- bits on windows server 2003 enterprise edition 64 bits service pack1 and i try for windows server 2003 standard edition 64 bits on a pc,i am getting the below error.
the image file E: is valid, but it is for a machine type other than current machine
[code]SQL> set heading off SQL> set pagesize 0 SQL> set long 1000000 SQL> set feedback off SQL> select 2 dbms_metadata.get_ddl('TABLESPACE','TBLS_DATA') 3 from 4 dual 5 / ERROR: ORA-31603: object "TBLS_DATA" of type TABLESPACE not found in schema "JACK" ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_SYS_ERROR", line 105 ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_METADATA", line 2806 ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_METADATA", line 4333 ORA-06512: at line 1
When i try to extract ddl of tablespace from a schema JACK, i get error. This tablespace TBLS_DATA does exist in the database.
I received Unable to extend the tablespace ORA-01688 error. I checked the free space and found that the free space is available then why tablespace is not able to extend.
select segment_name, partition_name, tablespace_name, round(bytes/1024/1024/1024) gb, extents, max_extents from dba_segments.
1.Is there a chance that a temporary object (table, index, etc) could be created in this tablespace while this process runs and then dropped once it ends. 2.Is this related to max extents that can be allocated say
initial 5M next 5M max 500M and when it reached 500M it is not able to extend and it throws ORA-01688 but the data file space is available.
We are unable to connect to Oracle 11.1.0.7.0 from Oracle Forms 4.5..However we are able to connect using Oracle forms 6i
Now Forms 4.5 is old and not supported, however apart from Tests I will need prove it to the higher ups...Do we have any link, document which will cover such compatibility issue?
There was a tablespace of size 100MB.That Tablespace is filled and hence throwing an error like "unable to extent". But verified that there is around 20MB freespace present in the tablespace.what would be the reason behind this error?
