Windows :: Mismatched Oracle Drivers / Upgrade Version
Jun 26, 2012
We are running Oracle Enterprise software on various client and DB servers and we are experiencing a problem (outlined here [URL] .....) where the apparent mismatch between the oracle drivers are causing the errors.
Our db servers are using 10.2.0.4 and 10.2.0.5 drivers and the clients are using 10.2.0.1.
Firstly, are the drivers the same on the Express and Enterprise editions so that if I update a development server using Express version (I don't have the authority to upgrade the Enterprise version nor the time to commission that) and it is successful, can I reasonably expect an upgrade to the Enterprise client versions on other servers to be safe/error free, baring environmental factors of course ?
Secondly, can I upgrade to version 10.2.0.5 now or do I have to go to the 11g version only ?

I work in a large bank in a department that produces reports for different areas of the bank. By and large, we use Microsoft Office products to interface with our Oracle databases.Recently, we had two new databases come online that use Oracle 11g - we were not using any 11g databases before this point. We have two other databases that we use that run on Oracle 10g.
Up until the two new databases were brought in, our reporting was done from systems that used 10g and 9I. We all ran the Oracle 9I driver to connect to them, and it worked very well without issue. With the addition of the 11g databases to our reporting pool, we have been forced to upgrade our ODBC connections to the 11g driver, and it has not gone well at all. I had one query that typically ran in 30 minutes take +13 hours+ to run yesterday. Speed is not the only issue, either; we have sporadic ODBC call fails, crashes, and other general failures to deal with.
Our Oracle DBAs have been trying to solve the issue, but have not yet found a solution, and each day that this goes on we fall further and further behind, as I have daily time-sensitive reports to send out that depend on this data.
One of our DBAs said she read somewhere that Oracle had not included MS Access support in the 11g driver, and that the errors were due to the imperfect connection that the driver created. I don't know of there's any truth to that, but it would provide an explanation for our troubles. We have to use Access for our reporting, as over 90% of our existing reports and processes use Access, and having to change over everything at once is just not feasible.
Is there any way to force the 9I and 11g ODBC connections to coexist, so that we don't have to use the 11g driver for our 10g databases? Or is there a better 11g driver available?

I had two installations of Oracle on my server (10.2.0.4 and 11.2.0.1) under different linux users. The Databases used different listeners on different ports.
I upgraded my Oracle 11g to 11.2.0.3 successfully two weeks ago. However today I just checked that I couldnt reload my Oracle 10g Listener. On further analysis (lsnrctl status) I discovered that my 10g listener's version was "TNSLSNR for Linux: Version 11.2.0.3.0" . My Start Date from lsnrctl gives me the date when my Oracle 11g was upgraded.
Now I have tried to reload my 11g listener which works normally. I cannot reload my 10g listener (TNS-01190: The user is not authorized to execute the requested listener command). When i run ps command there is no process on my server for my 10g listener. I can only see my 11g listener process after running ps command. However everybody can ping my databases on Oracle 10g but i cannot identify or kill my listener process even on server level.

the need to use 9i Oracle ODBC drivers with 11g? What issues might be raised with this? Our application is using a very old technology and has issues, in certain functional areas, with 11g ODBC, and we found by reverting the driver to 9.0.0.2 it works.

I installed the Windows 7 64-bit ODBC drivers, but the install does not seem to have made the drivers available to all users, but rather only the installing user. This install is for an image that will be cloned as a virtual machine, so the drivers, client, settings, etc. will need to be available to anyone who logs in.
Is there a way to do the install so that all the settings and files put in by the installer will apply to all users? And if so, how do you do that?

I am migrating Oracle windows 32-bit (10g) db to hp-ux machine (11g R2). I have exported all the data from windows machine using dp and plan is to export it to 11g db on UNIX. Before I start the import I need to have similar structure on newly created 11g db on UNIX (tablespaces etc). I am wondering what would be the best option to
1. Generate the code to create all the tablespaces on the new database
2. How can I tell import into different tablespace?
3. I would like import indexes into separate tablespace than data.
Total size of the export is around 300gb.

O/S: Windows 7 64-bit
DB: Oracle XE 11g2 32-bit
APEX: 4.0.2
=============
Trying to upgrade APEX within an Oracle XE database installation on Windows 7. The version of APEX that came with Oracle XE is 4.0.2. Trying to upgrade to 4.1.1 and, from the SQL*Plus command-line (ie. the 'Run SQL Command' tool which comes with Oracle XE), I try to run @apexins.sql.
It starts to run momentarily, then the MS-DOS windows just closes. Can not find any install log to determine the cause.

I am testing upgrade from 11.1.0.6 to 11.2.0.2 patchset on linux X86-64 version. And facing the following component related issue.
The following components cannot be upgraded as the corresponding upgrade scripts are missing:
OLAP Analytic Workspace ( /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_3/olap/admin/apsdbmig.sql )
OLAP Catalog ( /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_3/olap/admin/amddbmig.sql )
Spatial ( /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_3/md/admin/sdodbmig.sql )
Oracle OLAP API ( /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_3/olap/admin/xoqdbmig.sql )
If you want to upgrade these components, you must first install them, using the OUI, and then re-run the Upgrade Assistant. Do you want to continue with upgrade? Note: If you continue, the above components will not be considered as part of the upgrade process.*
Following is the status of the specified components from 11.1.0.6
COMP_ID COMP_NAME VERSION STATUS
AMD OLAP Catalog 11.1.0.6.0 VALID
SDO Spatial 11.1.0.6.0 VALID
APS OLAP Analytic Workspace 11.1.0.6.0 VALID
Should I install these components while installing 11.2.0.2 patchset prior upgrading? I was unable to find any component installation on OUI.
Also DBUA pre-upgrade asked to remove existing UltraSearch from 11.1.0.6 prior upgrading. Though I removed it, but not sure is that going to hamper the upgraded DB, as I'm not sure of the usage of this component as well.

Select * from dba_directories; (there are other commands to get this info as well).
I captured screens from the DBUA upgrades, but did not see an option to change this information. Is there a way to feed this information to the install moving forward. IE, ./DBUA -silent ?
Also, anyone tracked the percentage of storage increase from 10.2/11.1 to 11.2.
