Windows / .NET :: Multiple Oracle ODBC Drivers In Single Database
Jan 9, 2013I work in a large bank in a department that produces reports for different areas of the bank. By and large, we use Microsoft Office products to interface with our Oracle databases.Recently, we had two new databases come online that use Oracle 11g - we were not using any 11g databases before this point. We have two other databases that we use that run on Oracle 10g.
Up until the two new databases were brought in, our reporting was done from systems that used 10g and 9I. We all ran the Oracle 9I driver to connect to them, and it worked very well without issue. With the addition of the 11g databases to our reporting pool, we have been forced to upgrade our ODBC connections to the 11g driver, and it has not gone well at all. I had one query that typically ran in 30 minutes take +13 hours+ to run yesterday. Speed is not the only issue, either; we have sporadic ODBC call fails, crashes, and other general failures to deal with.
Our Oracle DBAs have been trying to solve the issue, but have not yet found a solution, and each day that this goes on we fall further and further behind, as I have daily time-sensitive reports to send out that depend on this data.
One of our DBAs said she read somewhere that Oracle had not included MS Access support in the 11g driver, and that the errors were due to the imperfect connection that the driver created. I don't know of there's any truth to that, but it would provide an explanation for our troubles. We have to use Access for our reporting, as over 90% of our existing reports and processes use Access, and having to change over everything at once is just not feasible.
Is there any way to force the 9I and 11g ODBC connections to coexist, so that we don't have to use the 11g driver for our 10g databases? Or is there a better 11g driver available?

Installing 11g On Windows XP
Oct 31, 2012i download oracle 11g for windows 32 bit on my laptop, go through the installation and use the option to crate a starter database. meet all the pre- req and every thing goes smooth. database gets created, use sqlplus to connect ot the database also open the enterprise manager and and also see the GUI after logging in.
now what happens it works fine for a day or some times two and when i reboot the machine and go back and try to open the EM its gives me the error cant find the URL. i have tried it few times and it happens every time. i don't know what i am doing it wrong but for some reason the EM manager doesn't work . i can still log on the database using the sqlplus.

Aug 14, 2011I wish to purchased a new DELL laptop with windows 7. I was told that oracle 10g installation is a problem in windows 7 and is not compatible with windows 7. i was even told that formweb.cfg file also does not work properly.
Is this true. should i have to install windows XP instead of windows 7. some how i am not able to accept this point. I need to buy around 15 laptops for all my officers and it will be a waste if i can't install oracle 10g

Nov 22, 2010We have almost 400 production two-node RAC clusters in the environment I manage - all these sites have databases where the database name is exactly the same, so using Grid Control right now isn't in the cards (and yes - I am working on assigning them all a unique name ). We want to use IBM's BIGFIX to deploy patch 32 on top of 10.2.0.3 for Windows Itanium. BigFix runs as a user different from that used to install the Oracle software originally. There is nothing in the patch notes to suggest that you must use a certain Windows user to install the patch - so the question is, does it matter what Windows User I use as long as they are an 'Administrator' equivalent?
how do you perform mass updates/patches in your Windows server environments? I am looking for examples outside of Grid Control - which I know would work if only my predecessor didn't name these databases the same .

Aug 22, 2013I installed oracle 9i from cd's (3 cd pack) all the three cd's installed perfectly but after the installation of these three cd's , a window appears (which is default installation ) in which some below mentioned tools were installed:-
1. Net Configuration Assitant
2. HTTP server etc. when installation of net configuration assistant is going on then a window is popped up saying "jrew.exe stops working" and the process of installation keeps going on and going on..........then when i stopped listener ,then another tool installation starts and after sometime again a window is popped with same message "jrew.exe stops working". means all the 4 tools are not successfully installed ...installing oracle 9i database on windows7.

Sep 28, 2010I am setting up a conversion server for upgrading an application database to a later version - the database is hosted on 11g but the vendor provided ETL tool only supports the Oracle 10g client. Is there a specific order so the install will work on the initial install. I'm installing Oracle 11g R1 (11.1 no patches) and 10g (10.1.0.4 after patching) 32Bit on a WIN2K3 SP2 Server. I've done this install before but have had to play with the path order to get it to work.

Mar 16, 2013I am configuring Grid Infrastructure 11g2 on node A, one of two cluster nodes, and getting the following message:
[INS-40916] Single-instance versions of Cluster Synchronization Services (CSS) are detected.
I executed runInstaller and installed software-only on both A and B nodes. It apparently the other node has already CSS instance running, and maybe caused by the installation.I remove the software from A first?
How do I stop CSS on the node A, and let the configuratoin to continue on this node B

Windows :: Mismatched Oracle Drivers / Upgrade Version
Jun 26, 2012We are running Oracle Enterprise software on various client and DB servers and we are experiencing a problem (outlined here [URL] .....) where the apparent mismatch between the oracle drivers are causing the errors.
Our db servers are using 10.2.0.4 and 10.2.0.5 drivers and the clients are using 10.2.0.1.
Firstly, are the drivers the same on the Express and Enterprise editions so that if I update a development server using Express version (I don't have the authority to upgrade the Enterprise version nor the time to commission that) and it is successful, can I reasonably expect an upgrade to the Enterprise client versions on other servers to be safe/error free, baring environmental factors of course ?
Secondly, can I upgrade to version 10.2.0.5 now or do I have to go to the 11g version only ?
