Instant Client And ODBC Drivers
Dec 17, 2012I've to install ODBC drivers required by a Windows application ( Windesign ).I've downloaded on Oracle website :
- instantclient-basic-windows.x64-11.2.0.3.0.zip
- instantclient-odbc-windows.x64-11.2.0.3.0.zip
- ODBC driver - Oracle 10.1.exe
- ODBC driver - Oracle 10.2.exe
- ODBC driver - Oracle 9.01.exe
- ODBC driver - Oracle 9.02.exe
But any of them contains install.exe or something like that...So I don't understand how to install instant client...I've found a doc on the web : " ... copy unzipped files into a folder ( ex.: C:OracleInstantClient ) and add Environment Variables TNS_ADMIN and PATH ) ... "I did it. But while adding ODBC driver with Windows admin tools , only SQL Server is available !!!.

I install the ODBC Driver Manager, Basic Instant Client, ODBC Instant Client packages (libsqora.so, odbc_update_ini.sh).
The error:

The documentation explic with exists the file libsqora.so.10.1 but not exists in the ODBC Instant Client packages.
I applied ln -s libsqora.so.10.1 libsqora.so but the connection not function

Windows / .NET :: Multiple Oracle ODBC Drivers In Single Database
Jan 9, 2013I work in a large bank in a department that produces reports for different areas of the bank. By and large, we use Microsoft Office products to interface with our Oracle databases.Recently, we had two new databases come online that use Oracle 11g - we were not using any 11g databases before this point. We have two other databases that we use that run on Oracle 10g.
Up until the two new databases were brought in, our reporting was done from systems that used 10g and 9I. We all ran the Oracle 9I driver to connect to them, and it worked very well without issue. With the addition of the 11g databases to our reporting pool, we have been forced to upgrade our ODBC connections to the 11g driver, and it has not gone well at all. I had one query that typically ran in 30 minutes take +13 hours+ to run yesterday. Speed is not the only issue, either; we have sporadic ODBC call fails, crashes, and other general failures to deal with.
Our Oracle DBAs have been trying to solve the issue, but have not yet found a solution, and each day that this goes on we fall further and further behind, as I have daily time-sensitive reports to send out that depend on this data.
One of our DBAs said she read somewhere that Oracle had not included MS Access support in the 11g driver, and that the errors were due to the imperfect connection that the driver created. I don't know of there's any truth to that, but it would provide an explanation for our troubles. We have to use Access for our reporting, as over 90% of our existing reports and processes use Access, and having to change over everything at once is just not feasible.
Is there any way to force the 9I and 11g ODBC connections to coexist, so that we don't have to use the 11g driver for our 10g databases? Or is there a better 11g driver available?

Aug 26, 2011I'm looking for 3 simple things.
1) A reverse engineering tool that I can point to an Oracle schema and get a "baseline" script to re-create that schema from scratch, with decently formatted DDL files (1 per object) neatly organized in a directory tree (by object type) and called in the correct order. Icing on the cake would be an option to pass the tool a list of tables containing static data and get DMLs to populate (insert) those tables as part of the script.
2) a diff tool that I can point to a pair of Oracle instances (source and target) containing a given schema and get a "delta" script to alter the target schema so that it becomes identical to the source schema. If data loss occurs on the target instance (i.e. drop a column) I would like to find a warning comment inserted in the script (e.g. "-- Attention: data migration DML needed here?"). Icing on the cake would be an option to pass the tool a list of tables containing static data and get DMLs to update (delete, update and insert) the data in the target tables to become identical to the contents in the source tables *without* deleting and re-inserting all rows (or dropping, recreating and repopulating the table).
3) I would like the above two tools (that, as you will have recognized, are basic to putting your database design under version control) to be open-source, with a command-line interface and a vibrant community backing them.

Jun 26, 2012We are running Oracle Enterprise software on various client and DB servers and we are experiencing a problem (outlined here [URL] .....) where the apparent mismatch between the oracle drivers are causing the errors.
Our db servers are using 10.2.0.4 and 10.2.0.5 drivers and the clients are using 10.2.0.1.
Firstly, are the drivers the same on the Express and Enterprise editions so that if I update a development server using Express version (I don't have the authority to upgrade the Enterprise version nor the time to commission that) and it is successful, can I reasonably expect an upgrade to the Enterprise client versions on other servers to be safe/error free, baring environmental factors of course ?
Secondly, can I upgrade to version 10.2.0.5 now or do I have to go to the 11g version only ?

Sep 13, 2012the need to use 9i Oracle ODBC drivers with 11g? What issues might be raised with this? Our application is using a very old technology and has issues, in certain functional areas, with 11g ODBC, and we found by reverting the driver to 9.0.0.2 it works.

Sep 9, 2013I installed the Windows 7 64-bit ODBC drivers, but the install does not seem to have made the drivers available to all users, but rather only the installing user. This install is for an image that will be cloned as a virtual machine, so the drivers, client, settings, etc. will need to be available to anyone who logs in.
Is there a way to do the install so that all the settings and files put in by the installer will apply to all users? And if so, how do you do that?

Installation was successful and I was able to create the required service names and test them to the Oracle database server. Now when I try to create an ODBC connection with Oracle in OraClient10g_home1, I get the following error: SQORAS32
An unsupported operation was attempted
If I install Oracle client 10.2.0.1.0, I don't get this error. It happens with the latest client. Is there any was to solve this error?
Windows / .NET :: ODBC Setup Error For Oracle Client
Sep 5, 2012I'm trying to setup ODBC connection for my Oracle client while installing BO. Following are the steps I followed.
1. Downloaded the Oracle Client from the link [URL] . From that downloaded two zip files. “Instant Client Package – Basic Lite" and “Instant Client Package – ODBC”. Extracted the Zip Files to the folder I created under C: as C:Oracleinstantclient_11_2.
2. Since I'm setting up in ODBC in windows 2008 64-bit R2. I was advised to install 32 bit . So in cmd prompt, from the location C:Oracleinstantclient_11_2, ran odbc_install.
3.Created the Environment variables as
i) *TNS_ADMIN - C:Oracleinstantclient_11_2*
ii) *Oracle_Home - C:Oracleinstantclient_11_2*
iii) *Edited the PATH variable with ;C:Oracleinstantclient_11_2*
4. Created the tnsnames.ora file in C:Oracleinstantclient_11_2. Its content are as follows.

User Id: clarity1
When I test connect it, I get error *ORA-12154:*
* TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified*
I've seen FAQs for this error, but couldn't find anything which solves. Is there any steps I'm missing? I've checked in DB properties. It uses SID not the Service Name.

For Linux I uses Linux Oracle OS for Database server. I installed oracle client in my fedora OS. and cofigure the client using net cofiguration assistant tool with oracle client. client connection working OK. Then I try to connect with my mono application using the following connection string
Driver={Oracle ODBD Drive};Server=orcl;Uid=system;Pwd=manager
but the above connection string not worked.I am using Oracle 11g version. Do I need to install any other ODBC driver to access oracle database

Jun 25, 2010I'm placing this here since the only tool I have is TOAD to hack database. I have discovered a bad record with the system but as the date field is '0000' and the values are all hieroglyphics which I can't place in UPDATE statement. Only fields able to determine are that it's a journal entry. I tried the blow code only to be forced out of TOAD via ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel error is a generic error. How can I update the bad date fields with such limited access? Is the ROWID acceptable?

Apr 18, 2013My oracle version is 10g.I want to update a table which has 2 million rows and 20 columns. I want to update 3 columns in my table based on a query output.
Say:-

I tried the simple update SQL, it hangs and never comeback even after 2 hrs.So I resort to PLSQL to complete my job using bulk collect with limits. Now I am stumbled upon with the Bulk update step.I referred to the BULK Update example given in [URL]...
I gone by 9i approach, I got invalid rowid error. Since the example doesn't uses a join.
I am little bit worried to go by 10g approach given in the example. I have to fetch entire row from my update table. My update table has 5 varchar(1000) fields. Anyway I am not going to affect them in my update. Whether it will occupy memory and again leads to hanging of my procedure.

I've got SQLConnection (dbx), SQLDataSet, DataSetProvider on server side and SQLConnection, DSProviderConnection, ClientDataSet plus DataSource, DBGrid, DBNavigator on client side.
SQLConnection on server side uses Oracle driver - dbxora.dll. DB: Oracle 11g.
SQLConnection on client side uses Datasnap driver.
SQLDataSet has DbxCommandType set to Dbx.SQL, CommandText: "Select * from Table1".
All fields except indexed one have their pfInWhere set to false.
updateMode of DataSetProvaider is set to upWhereKeyOnly.
All is well up to point where ApplayUpdates is fired. It does nothing. HandleReconcileError shows ORA-01722: invalid number.
Oracle explains: ORA-01722:invalid number
Cause: The attempted conversion of a character string to a number failed because the character string was not a valid numeric literal. Only numeric fields or character fields containing numeric data may be used in arithmetic functions or expressions. Only numeric fields may be added to or subtracted from dates.
Action: Check the character strings in the function or expression. Check that they contain only numbers, a sign, a decimal point, and the character "E" or "e" and retry the operation. But all updated fields are of character strings type. There is no need for conversion. I suppose the automatically created SQL has some extra checking. But I cannot see those SQLs. I guess must be a way of controlling those SQLs thru params, but don't know which. May be comparison old value - new value of index column is depending on this conversion?

Oct 6, 2010We have a Oracle 10g database in the server. We are trying to connect to the server using oracle6 client and we are able to do so. How ever when retrieving the "time stamps" field , getting an error "ORA-03115: unsupported network datatype or representation". I understood from the error that, the client version need an upgrade.
How ever , We have another server which is having Oracle6 installed in the server and hence If i install/upgrade the client in my local system , I will be having trouble.
My question is , is there any way to get the timestamps from oracle6 client with out any issue.

Feb 21, 2013The problem is that this connection errors when I try to connect using my SQuirreL client. My developers want to connecting using the SID or the SERVICE_NAME and by using the "New Method" syntax, not the "Old Method" syntax. According to the documentation the "New Method" syntax works with the SERVICE_NAME or the SID. The "Old Method" only works with the SID.

Dec 11, 2012I have new virtual UNIX machine and I installed oracle client on /usr/lib/oracle. Also I have a oracle database and I am able to connect to this database from my desktop sql developer.
So now I am trying to connect from new UNIX machine. Where I created tnsnames.ora file under /usr/lib/oracle/network/admin and before connecting did export the following

export ORACLE_HOME=/usr/lib/oracle/
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib

when I try

ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist. Not sure what I missed here. using same tns file I am able to connect from sql developer on windows.

For one of our Java applications, the Oracle Client installed in the apps server was 10.2 . One of the SCAN LISTENERs were down in the cluster. When DNS resolves the scan name to that particular SCAN IP where the listener is down, the connection will fail. But , after they upgraded the oracle client to 11.2 , the issue seems to be resolved. It seems that the client is skipping the faulty SCAN IP which doesn't have scan listener running. Are 11.2 and higher Oracle clients intelligent enough to check this ?
