I used bulk collect and for all statements to select and insert the data in temp table. The select SQl is returning one row. But its not inserting this row into temp table. Its not throwing any exceptions. Used ref cursor because the select statement is going for every cursor.

here modified the code and provided only one cursor.

Performance Tuning :: Create Statements On A Highly Fragmented Disk

Nov 24, 2010

On Oracle 10g, I create, delete and drop a lot of tables. Therefore, the disk is highly fragmented. The execution of a very simple create statement takes more than a minute. If I execute the same statement but first truncate the table and insert the data, it takes less than a second!

I think this has to do with the high fragmentation of the disk. Obviously, I can defragment the disk, but I will always have a high fragmentation since I use a lot of create, delete and drops.

how I can improve the performance of create statements on highly fragmented disks?

Create Sproc (loop) To Insert Data

Aug 3, 2011

Need to create Sproc(loop) to insert data..We have 2 table:

- BE Table
Name Null Type
---------------------- -------- --------------
BID NOT NULL NUMBER(10)
BUSINESSENTITYTYPEID NOT NULL NUMBER(10)
PARENTID NUMBER(10)
VERSION NOT NULL NUMBER(10)
FULLNAME VARCHAR2(255)
PHONE VARCHAR2(255)
FAX VARCHAR2(255)
[code]....

Whenever the BE table is read it gives more than 80K records from cust_id=1 and so on and becomes a bit slow ..

Now, when we copy the records from BE to CUSTPAYMETHOD (assume 30k). Next time when we read the table it should show us the customerid from 3001based on New Customer's(user created) Customerid.

CUSTID column is logically linked with BID column (FK not enforced) We don't have to pass parameter as we know the cust_id=1,flag for suspended='Y' and Eff_date between date1 and date2..We have accept from/to Period.Probably a loop to insert...This particular SP will run in all env and the id is going to be different how we are going to handle this...

We want to have a procedure. This is to purge BE table.

1) Insert a new parameter CUST_PMNT_MTHD_RETENTION_PERIOD into system_parameter table(which is only a parameter table) -- this can be done outside of Proc.

2)Create a new Customer(user id) through the Customer application and then find out the custID for the new customer -- this can be done outside of Proc.

SP should be for:

- Store Proc will Update the CustID in the CustPayMethod table to the new customer ID (that was created) when the EFFECTIVESTARTDATE older than CUST_PMNT_MTHD_RETENTION_PERIOD(from system_parameter table) days and suspended=’Y’.

- Copy records with custid=1(anonymous user) and startdata older than retention_period and suspended='Y' to Table CUSTPAYMETHOD

Eventually, delete the record from BE table.BusinessEntity(parent) table is information about customer and customerpaymentmethod(child) table is about payment mode(how payment is made by customer).

Assume If BID=1 then we can find Cust_id=1(which can have many records as the payment mode may change because the customer pay by different mode(credit, debit etc).We have to use loop and commit every 200 or 500 records.

FIrst we have to update the table with new cust_id and then insert...

SQL & PL/SQL :: IF / THEN Statements With Different Datatypes

Sep 30, 2011

I have a column in a database that contains both numerical and char data. I would like to be able to do two different things (two different queries)

1. divide the numerical data in the column by 10 and leave the char data alone (just return it)

2. detect the numerical data in the column and treat is as a different value so I can run averages & counts on it while disregarding the char data

I'm not at all sure how to do number 2. I thought a CASE statement would work for number 1, but then I realized CASE doesn't like different datatypes:

select
case when '1234' = 'checked' then 'checked'
when '1234' = 'gen.nograde' then 'gen.nograde'
when '1234' = null then null
else '1234'/10 end as "GRADE"
from dual

Error report:
SQL Error: ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected CHAR got NUMBER
00932. 00000 - "inconsistent datatypes: expected %s got %s"

SQL Either Or Statements In Third-party Software

Dec 27, 2010

I'm in a bit of a pickle with some SQL syntax, and while my Oracle-fu is weak, an associate with SQL skills is also stuck. I am developing a database for my department that is backed by Oracle Enterprise 11g and the front end is ChemAxon (basically, chemistry database software). The short of it is that I have one large table with every compound from different groups. Each row has a flag (column PI) on it that indicates which group it belongs to (let us say 'Smith' and 'Jones' for example). The software can apply row-level filtering which will basically only show the rows that a particular username are allowed to see.

I have a FLAG_TABLE table, which contains two columns: USERNAME and FLAG. An example set up is this:

USERNAME FLAG
------------- ----------
smith_minion Smith
jones_minion Jones
jones_minion Smith

The software automatically applies a SQL filter that begins with:

SELECT DISTINCT CHEMAXON.STRUCTURES."ID" FROM CHEMAXON.STRUCTURES WHERE

I can set up filtering to work dandy, such that when smith_minion logs in, he can only see rows with the Smith flag (or jones_minion can see both Jones and Smith) by using the filter:

STRUCTURES.PI IS NULL or STRUCTURES.PI IN(SELECT ALL FLAG from FLAG_TABLE where USERNAME = '__IJC_USERNAME__')

('__IJC_USERNAME__' is how the third party software passes the logged in username into SQL)

But we have a new problem: there also exists a master user (chemaxon) who needs to see every row no matter what the flag. The row filtering is applied no matter who logs on, so we need to set up the SQL filter to basically say "If chemaxon, then select all rows, otherwise, select rows based on the username". This is proving a problem as the select statement must be prefaced with SELECT DISTINCT CHEMAXON.STRUCTURES."ID" FROM CHEMAXON.STRUCTURES WHERE.

I've tried using DECODE in a few capacities, but I am always thwarted. My last attempt was:

STRUCTURES.PI IS NULL or STRUCTURES.PI IN (DECODE('__IJC_USERNAME__','chemaxon',(!='something'),(SELECT ALL FLAG from FLAG_TABLE where USERNAME = __IJC_USERNAME__));

But this throws a ORA-00936 missing expression error, with a * under the != portion (I test it by replacing '__IJC_USERNAME__' with 'CHEMAXON').
