Aug 8, 2011I'm trying to install Oracle 11gR2 RAC on AIX, do we need to turn on Multicasting, can we install without multicasting? Also can I have the ASM disk with external redundancy for OCR and Voting Disk?

Sep 29, 2010Yesterday I was installing 11.2.0.2 patch to our Oracle 11gR2(11.2.0.1.0) Two node RAC cluster on OEL 5.4 x86 Linux.Before installing I have read [URL] support note which says "Note: All Oracle Grid Infrastructure patch set upgrades must be out-of-place upgrades, in which you install the patch set into a new Grid home. In-place patch set upgrades are not supported. "
During Installation I found following Installation Option :
1) Install and configure Oracle grid Infrastructure for a cluster
2) Configure Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a Standalone Server
3) Upgrade Oracle Grid Infrastructure or Oracle Automatic Storage Management
4) Install Oracle Grid Infrastructure Software Only
Which option should I have to choose here ?

- Is Grid Infrastructure only the solution to install Clusterware Application 11gR2? My requirement is to install only the Cluster ware Software for 11gR2 (For 11gR1 we have "linux.x64_11gR1_clusterware.zip") using ocfs2 file system, Archive Mode not enabled.

Jul 4, 2013I tried to install 11gR2 grid infrastructure for 2 nodes RAC using VMWare as per the instructions provided in the below link.

Until 65% installation went fine without any issues but after reaching this step "updating '/u01/app/11.2.0/grid/install/cluster.ini",it starts to hung. In the installation log file, I found these details.

Oct 11, 2011I have 2 node 11gR2 RAC running on AIX 6.1, after I shutdown the database and restart crs using crsctl start crs, ASM instance comes back up but not the database and I had to start the database using srvctl, isn't that the database should come up when I start the crs?

Oct 16, 2012I am building a database to store call quality statistics for VOIP networks. It is a very insert heavy application, and data reliability is of relatively minimal importance (in the sense that a few corrupt call records here and there doesn't matter the way corruption does in for example a banks database). Long term storage is also unimportant, most customers only wish to keep 3 months of data readily available in the database. Most do not even archive the older data.
To that end I am searching for every possible way to improve my insert performance and the internet has turned me onto the idea of NOLOGGING. These are the steps I have taken to reduce my IO consumed by the Redo and Undo logs.
1. I am inserting with the APPEND_VALUES hint.
2. I have disabled force logging at the database level
3. I have disabled force logging at the tablespace level
4. I have disabled logging on the relevant table and each of its indices
As best I can tell this is all I can do to minimize Redo/Undo, but based on my observations of the Disk portion of the WinServer2008 Performance Monitor, this has made little to no change in the amount of IO to my REDO and UNDO files. IO to the .dbf containing my table makes up less than 20% of the total disk IO for oracle.exe, the rest is the REDO and UNDO logs.

The above article is a little over my head but I am able to extract from it that I will never entirely eliminate REDO/UNDO, which is fine, but I would think I could get it lower than it currently is.ted.

Dec 29, 2012I am aware that from 11g, memory_target is sufficient for memeory management between SGA and PGA.
what happens if MEMORY_TARGET set to non-zero and SGA_TARGET set to zero values in a 11g database? Does it enable automatic memory management within the SGA?
We regularly hit by ORA-4031 errors. Also, memory_target advisory (v$memory_target_advice) does not show any advisory information.
for eg:
memory_max_target = 500m
memory_target = 500m
and
sga_max_size=500m
sga_target=0
