Server Utilities :: Export / Import XML Records In Oracle 11gR2

Jan 28, 2012

In oracle 11g R2 , I face a problem when I export/import xml records in the tables . Everytime it takes huge time (like 2 or 3 days) to import or export the data . But the dump size is very small (4gb) and this dump comes from a vendor so that I dont understand that is it a data structure problem or it the normal behaviour to import xml records.

I am not used to with xml record with oracle database before. Here I am using datapump feature . I also mention that when I delete the schema (where I imported the xml data) , it also takes 2/3 days to delete.The import script will hang in the following stage :

=========================
bash-3.2$ impdp system/sys123 DIRECTORY=isb_dir DUMPFILE=jblbld_20110301_01.dmp,jblbld_20110301_02.dmp,jblbld_20110301_03.dmp logfile=JBLBLD_28Jan2012.log schemas=TBLD;date

Afterthat, we give EXP command for backup in 11gR2, but it shows some error like NCHAR character data type...

i.e. IMP works fine while upgrading 8i DMP in 11gR2, but then EXP shows error in 11gR2.

Migrate MySQL 5.0 Objects To Oracle 11g

Jan 23, 2013

I`m migrating a mysql 5.0 database to Oracle 11g. I used Oracle's Sql developer and with a workaround i could convert tables, constraints, indexes, some triggers and created sequences.

My question is, what happen with stored procedures and functions, they didn't pass. I've been searching and i found here hey have to be rewritten. Is there any way to convert those objects ? I can't afford to do it manually because the mysql database has almost 400 of them and they aren't small.

Oracle And MySQL Database - Could Not Resolve Connect Identifier Specified

Jun 2, 2011

i tried for 3 days to setup a connection between my oracle database 11.2 (resides on 2003,64 bit Microsoft windows) and a mysql database (resides on 2003,32 bit Microsoft widows).

i used dg4odbc 64 bit which was installed on oracle server, my steps was as follows :

1- configure ODBC driver (MYSQL 3.51 odbc) on oracle server that connect to mysql database and the connection was tested successfully (the name of odbc dsn is DG4ODBC).

2- configure the listener.ora file (which resides on dg4odbc installation path) that contains the following :

LISTENER =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = xxxxxxxxxxxx)(PORT = 1511))

[code]....

3- configure the tnsnames.ora file (which resides on oracle database path) that contains the follwoing :

DG4ODBC =
(DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=xxxxxxxxxxxx)(PORT=1521))
(CONNECT_DATA = ( SERVICE_NAME = DG4ODBC ))
(HS=OK)
)

4- configure that initdg4odbc.ora file that resides on the dg4odbc installation.

HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = DG4ODBC
HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = off

5- restart the gateway listener.

6- test DG4ODBC service by tnsping which was successful .when i try to get some data from mysql database by SELECT * FROM MDL_COURSE@DG4ODBC query,the query take some time (15 second !!) and return

ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified

Export/Import/SQL Loader :: Oracle Traditional Import Overrides Password?

Nov 23, 2012

I had just successfully finished a full importing from Oracle 9i DB to Oracle 11gR2 DB. My export was a full db export.

Prior to this importing, my 11g was a newly created DB with the default SYS, System etc.. schema. Their passwords is different from those in 9i.

However, i realised that after importing... their passwords in 11g was replaced by those passwords in 9i, including SYS and SYSTEM user...

RAC & Failsafe :: 11.2.0.2 Patch For Oracle 11gR2 RAC Cluster?

Sep 29, 2010

Yesterday I was installing 11.2.0.2 patch to our Oracle 11gR2(11.2.0.1.0) Two node RAC cluster on OEL 5.4 x86 Linux.Before installing I have read [URL] support note which says "Note: All Oracle Grid Infrastructure patch set upgrades must be out-of-place upgrades, in which you install the patch set into a new Grid home. In-place patch set upgrades are not supported. "

During Installation I found following Installation Option :

1) Install and configure Oracle grid Infrastructure for a cluster

2) Configure Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a Standalone Server

3) Upgrade Oracle Grid Infrastructure or Oracle Automatic Storage Management

4) Install Oracle Grid Infrastructure Software Only

Which option should I have to choose here ?

Performance Tuning :: NOLOGGING In Oracle 11gr2?

Oct 16, 2012

I am building a database to store call quality statistics for VOIP networks. It is a very insert heavy application, and data reliability is of relatively minimal importance (in the sense that a few corrupt call records here and there doesn't matter the way corruption does in for example a banks database). Long term storage is also unimportant, most customers only wish to keep 3 months of data readily available in the database. Most do not even archive the older data.

To that end I am searching for every possible way to improve my insert performance and the internet has turned me onto the idea of NOLOGGING. These are the steps I have taken to reduce my IO consumed by the Redo and Undo logs.

1. I am inserting with the APPEND_VALUES hint.

2. I have disabled force logging at the database level

3. I have disabled force logging at the tablespace level

4. I have disabled logging on the relevant table and each of its indices

As best I can tell this is all I can do to minimize Redo/Undo, but based on my observations of the Disk portion of the WinServer2008 Performance Monitor, this has made little to no change in the amount of IO to my REDO and UNDO files. IO to the .dbf containing my table makes up less than 20% of the total disk IO for oracle.exe, the rest is the REDO and UNDO logs.

asktom.oracle.com/pls/asktom/f?p=100:11:0::::P11_QUESTION_ID:897564200346274711

The above article is a little over my head but I am able to extract from it that I will never entirely eliminate REDO/UNDO, which is fine, but I would think I could get it lower than it currently is.ted.
