Is the 12c version of the Grid Control only for Oracle Cloud? Not completely sure of exactly what cloud computing is. Looks like a conglomeration of shared resources. Anyway we are converting all of our servers over to vmware virtual machines except the ones we manage in other states. I am upgrading each database to 11 r2 as we convert the servers. Anyway my Grid server is next to convert to a virtual machine. I am using Grid Control 10.2.0.5.0 now. I want to upgrade to the latest version of the Grid control. 12c seems to stress and boast about managing the "Oracle Cloud" to manage regular single node Oracle servers as well as vmware virtual machines?
I know how to create a database link between two oracle servers, but problem is that SID is same for both servers, Is there any other way to connect two servers without using only 'SID' ..here are TNSNAMES.ORA FILE i HAVE
Due to some some Network issues . we have planing to move oracle database one domain to another domain changing domain name and IP address of oracle database . if want to change oracle database 10g(10.2.0.5.0) 32 bit windows version what are setting s to change in oracle database.
(Oracle Grid & Real Application Clusters Oracle Grid Computing with RAC) from rampant tech press. I have already ordered it 3 months back and still have not received it as its not printed yet or as i am told is in press. I would be glad to have a copy soon if its published.
Is it possible to communicate with a serial device (via COM1) with oracle forms / webutil? I am able to communicate in java using RXTXcomm, but I am having problems making a bean that uses it (getting security errors and yes, I have signed the jars).
Basically, I have a scale hooked up to my COM1 port and want to be able to send commands (zero and tare) to it and read the weight from it through a form or java bean.
My company use a sybase database that runs business jobs. Currently we run SQL queries from Perl to gather time information on the jobs. Now we have an application that is using Oracle. The server it is on, doesn't have perl, so I am using a shell script to login to sqlplus and run a query for a job and it's end time. I have accomplished this. However, here is the 2 problems I am having.
1. The query reults are returned in Scientific time, I'm able to convert that to EPOCH time in the SQL syntax, however, it comes back with a 13 digit time, instead of 10. The last 3 digits are zero. How can you remove the last 3 digits in the query or convert the 13 digits to Human Time. Right now when you see the select statement, I am doing a to_char to get it to EPOCH time.
2. How to only show the latest time in the query and not show ALL job end times from it's past runs.
Here is my shell script, and I do realize this maybe a select statement syntax solution to one or both, but the UNIX time stamp is puzzling.
#!/usr/bin/sh sqlplus -S username/password@JAWSPROD <<eof> myfile set heading off feedback off verify off select JAWS_APP.JAWSJOB.JOBNAME, to_char(JAWS_APP.JOBRUN.ENDTIME) from JAWS_APP.JAWSJOB, JAWS_APP.JOBRUN where JAWS_APP.JAWSJOB.JOBID = JAWS_APP.JOBRUN.JOBID and JAWS_APP.JAWSJOB.JOBNAME in ('pa_box_settle'); exit
I'm trying to install Grid Infrastructure for Oracle RAC 11g. I followed each step of pre installation tasks, but when I run run Installer it blocks without any error message.

I got huge problem trying to install grid infrastructure and oracle db. Separately oracle db works fine and installation is going without any problems as for grid not so much.
i got vmware host 4.1 with several vm's on top. One of them i openfiler which gives 2 luns for installation. Two other vm's are host of windows 2008r2(comes only 64bits i know that many of you know but just to be clear). Those two windows should be connected in oracle cluster and should have one oracle db afterwards. I have already AD domain, free disks and all required staff arranged and prepared.
I wont bodder you ppl about previous problems but current one is that i have no clue what's going wrong. I got two logs file which i paste below but there's no error message just some warning which isn't described even properly as for me.

I'm installing Oracle Grid 11gr2 on windows 2003 server. I installed successfully without domain controller. But when i try to install with Active Domain controller i faced following error
i am trying to install 2 node RAC on Oracle VMs. Before the installation during the -preinst check there were few issues which were resolved (ex user equivalence). After that during the installation process of the Grid it failed at step "Configure Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a cluster". After it failed at this step, subsequent steps too failed which I asked OUI to ignore and then I ran both the post installation scripts. And then ran post crsinst which failed. Pasting below the output of the root.sh script, post crsinst and other checks.

I have some confusions regarding to 11gR2 RAC installation:
- Is Grid Infrastructure only the solution to install Clusterware Application 11gR2? My requirement is to install only the Cluster ware Software for 11gR2 (For 11gR1 we have "linux.x64_11gR1_clusterware.zip") using ocfs2 file system, Archive Mode not enabled.
I am in process of installing Oracle 11g R2 Grid Infrastructure on 2-node virtual RAC. All went very well until the Grid Installation stuck on 65%. It is saying copying file on remote node ('Copying Oracle Home '/u01/app/11.2.0/grid' to remote nodes 'cxm-vl-rman02'). From the logs it is difficult to figure out where the bottlenecks lies.
We have eight servers. One of them is for centeral management. The other seven is for development and test databases. Every night, we start a process which exports database schemas (without data) into the centeral server. An example of the process we run is just like below:
As you can see, we use @dev to connect remote database. But dump file is created in local (centeral) server. We are planning to use datapump instead of classic export in future. But I couldn't find a solution, that could take a database export in a remote server and create dump file in local. I have looked at NETWORK_LINK parameter; but it doesn't seem to work for our case.
Is it possible to backup a remote database with datapump and make it create dumpfile in local? (Of course we can use some solutions such as NFS, but we really not prefer this; if datapump has ability to remotly backup.)
only these two packages in my server. should i have to install oracleasmlib??

I wanted to practice dataguard in oracle. I feel that I can practice realistically if I have 2 different servers to do switchovers, building new physical standby database from scratch and shipping the archiving logs from primary to physical standby database, etc., Can I use VMWare software to install 2 different servers and then practice dataguard?
I am working in a reporting project. We have different environments. After migration of data base script from one server to another we always need to crosscheck whether newly added columns have been properly migrated or not.
any database script to address the same thing. Last but not the least we have servers with TNS entries. how we can connect to different server while present in one specific server.
I am trying to setup my environment to prepare for hands on DBA exercises from an OCM handbook for 10g -OCM:Oracle Database 10g Administrator Certified Master Exam Guide
I need access to the following files gc_10205_part1of2.zip, gc_10205_part2of2.zip for 32 bit linux
Apparently the above along with other Grid software was once attainable from the link below but sometime between this year and the last Oracle decided to remove this and other software from public access. URL.....
I doubt Oracle will hear my plea - educational purposes only - so given I want access to the software only.
I tried to install 11gR2 grid infrastructure for 2 nodes RAC using VMWare as per the instructions provided in the below link.

Until 65% installation went fine without any issues but after reaching this step "updating '/u01/app/11.2.0/grid/install/cluster.ini",it starts to hung. In the installation log file, I found these details.
I have a two node RAC on 11.2.0.3. We are using SCAN Listener here. On my node 1, i can connect to the database using tns alias: The alias looks something like:
sqlplus system/actdbasystem@cusms ----- works sucesfully on the prod server. Even the same prod alias copied to second tnsnames.ora in the cluster and run, it works sucesful too. But the issue is, when we copy the same alias onto any other servers and try to connect give's the following error message:
I have oracle grid control 10.2, I want to get the list of databases and servers that was configured within the Grid, is there any query that I can use to get it from Grid database?

i try to install oracle grid infrastructure 11r2 on cent OS 4.8 on vmware workstation 8.0.2..ASM disk is not showing ,i had also change disk discovery path to 'ORCL:*'i had already configure ASM disk using /etc/init.d/oracleasm createdisk...successfully..
our system has always been running on mysql database and recently we have switched to oracle. As the current system is coded using mysql query syntax, when i run this program using oracle database, i got a error. The language that I'm using is JSP.
this is the error message:

We are facing space crunch in our 4 development 11i ERP environment servers and decided to reclaim the space . We are having 11.1.0.7 Database . What we observed is, there are many objects present in the recyclebin and we went on to purge the reclybin of MSC user.
SQL>select owner,sum(space)* 8 / 1024/1024 "Size in GB" from dba_recyclebin group by owner order by sum(space) ;
But even after purging the recycle bin of MSC User , we didn't find any changes in DBA_FREE_SPACE for those tablespaces in which recyclebin objects were present. We would have seen the freed space in dba_free_space.
