Connection Using Sqlplus Works Locally And Not From Other Servers

Jul 27, 2012

I have a two node RAC on 11.2.0.3. We are using SCAN Listener here. On my node 1, i can connect to the database using tns alias: The alias looks something like:

Prod =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = x1200.prod.com)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = cusms)
(UR = A)
)
)

sqlplus system/actdbasystem@cusms ----- works sucesfully on the prod server. Even the same prod alias copied to second tnsnames.ora in the cluster and run, it works sucesful too. But the issue is, when we copy the same alias onto any other servers and try to connect give's the following error message:

SQL*Plus: Release 11.2.0.3.0 Production on Fri Jul 27 12:37:55 2012

ERROR:
ORA-12519: TNS:no appropriate service handler found

why is it my connection using sqlplus works locally and not from other servers?

Precompilers, OCI & OCCI :: Running Query In PRO*C That Works In SQLPLUS

Sep 4, 2008

I have a query similar to the one below which is embedded in a PRO*C program. The query works fine when run in the PRO*C program against a 8i database but fails with an "ORA-02015: cannot select FOR UPDATE from remote table" error when run against a 10g database. The PRO*C program is executing the sql using "EXEC SQL".

QUERY: Select last_name, first_name from Member
where ....
FOR UPDATE OF LAST_NAME;

The other thing to note is this SQL query works fine via sqlplus in a 10g environment.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS: The above query is selecting data from a base table via a user view
VIEW: select * from
otherschema.member@connection_identifier;

This view was created in this manner to allow the user account access to the underlaying table without creating explicit permissions.

ORA-01017 / Invalid Username / Password Logon Denied But SQLPLUS Works

Oct 15, 2012

"ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied" when attempting to log on to db, in three different applications. Error is observed in Toad, Crystal Reports, and MS ODBC Administrator connect test. However, same db credentials work in SQLPLUS.

Customer is attempting to log into reporting database hosted by my company, and using Cisco VPN client.I am unable to reproduce this at this time, on my machine, using same credentials and VPN profile.

Here is what we know/tried:

1. PING HOSTNAME is successful on CUSTOMER’S machine

2. TNSPING HOSTNAME is successful on CUSTOMER’S machine

3. SQLPLUS is successful with USER2/(pw)@HOSTNAME.int on CUSTOMER’S machine

4. We corrected timeout error on CUSTOMER’S side, by adding TCP.CONNECT_TIMEOUT=1000 in SQLNET.ORA (Also observed extremely slow performance on CUSTOMER SIDE)

5. We corrected dns suffix problem on CUSTOMER’S side, observed in NSLOOKUP by adding: IP ADDRESS AND HOSTNAME to Windows HOSTS file and commenting out default suffix COMPANY.com from SQLNET.ORA file

6. VPN configuration and VPN credentials are good.

We tested CUSTOMER’S VPN profle, CUSTOMER’S VPN credentials, and user USER2/(pw)@HOSTNAME on my machine (WIN7). I am able to maintain persistant connection to HOSTNAME for hours

7. TNSNames entries are good. Able to connect to db in Toad, and Crystal, on CUSTOMER’S machine using different Oracle user, USER3 (only has grant connect). Unable to logon to db, with Oracle user USER1, or USER2. (USER2 was created to try to resolve login problem w USER1, but issue still exists.)

8. CUSTOMER has Windows VISTA, does not have admin privileges, has Oracle 10 installed for client. Using same Cisco VPN client I have installed.

9. Database on our servers is 11g

10.2.0.3 SqlPlus DB Connection Slow?

May 16, 2007

We have two database instances on the same server. One was left at 9.2.0.7 and one was upgraded to 10.2.0.3. Connecting externally (sqlplus '/as sysdba') to the 9.2.0.7 database is lightning fast. Connecting externally to the 10.2.0.3 database is very slow, comparatively speakiing. This is on an IBM AIX-5L (64-bit) machine. We are using "tnsnames".

Slow Locally On Supersized Server

Apr 27, 2012

i have a nightly import ( about 20 tables ) and it takes up to 5 hours..we have one table of about 800,000 lines and the rest are between 1000 and 200,000 this is very slow when i monitor the import i see a very long amount of wait for the SQLnet from client ,

i run the import on the Database server itself .. if i check the current statement i see it's moving from one to one for instance i have

SELECT /*+ all_rows ordered */
"A".ROWID, 'REPORT', 'CONTRACT_LVL', 'SYS_C001329497'
FROM "REPORT"."CONTRACT_LVL" "A"
WHERE NOT (LENGTH (bonus_nat) <= 31)
then
SELECT /*+ all_rows ordered */
"A".ROWID, 'REPORT', 'CONTRACT_LVL', 'SYS_C001684584'
FROM "REPORT"."CONTRACT_LVL" "A"
WHERE NOT (LENGTH (outcome_cd) <= 1)

etc and it takes hours DB is on windows 2003 runnin oracle RDBMS 9.2.0.7 while the import screen show 185000 lines imported..I also see a lot of consistent gets for this sessions raising at that time..Would it be better to export import without statistics ?

I need also to mention that the dump file comes from a linux hosted Database don't think it will make the difference for a exp/imp.It's a peoplesoft Database there are a lot of tables more than 15000 and if i take the table mentioned above and i want to check its constraints it takes decade before toad can display them.I have seen that we have a incredible amount of constraints on those tables it might be the reason .

I just wonder if the system catalog needs to be tuned ? /* Update */ why but now the huge number of wait is no as "Library cache lock".

Datapump Use In Remote Servers

Nov 19, 2008

We have eight servers. One of them is for centeral management. The other seven is for development and test databases. Every night, we start a process which exports database schemas (without data) into the centeral server. An example of the process we run is just like below:

CODEcd /data1/backup
mknod exp_pipe_oracle1 p
compress<exp_pipe_oracle1>dev.dmp.Z&
exp user/****@dev file=exp_pipe_oracle1 owner=schema1,schema2,schema3 statistics=none rows=n log=dev.log

As you can see, we use @dev to connect remote database. But dump file is created in local (centeral) server. We are planning to use datapump instead of classic export in future. But I couldn't find a solution, that could take a database export in a remote server and create dump file in local. I have looked at NETWORK_LINK parameter; but it doesn't seem to work for our case.

Is it possible to backup a remote database with datapump and make it create dumpfile in local? (Of course we can use some solutions such as NFS, but we really not prefer this; if datapump has ability to remotly backup.)

Oracle Grid 12C - Converting All Servers?

Apr 18, 2012

Is the 12c version of the Grid Control only for Oracle Cloud? Not completely sure of exactly what cloud computing is. Looks like a conglomeration of shared resources. Anyway we are converting all of our servers over to vmware virtual machines except the ones we manage in other states. I am upgrading each database to 11 r2 as we convert the servers. Anyway my Grid server is next to convert to a virtual machine. I am using Grid Control 10.2.0.5.0 now. I want to upgrade to the latest version of the Grid control. 12c seems to stress and boast about managing the "Oracle Cloud" to manage regular single node Oracle servers as well as vmware virtual machines?

Purge Recycle Bin - Space Crunch In Our 4 Development 11i ERP Environment Servers

May 30, 2011

We are facing space crunch in our 4 development 11i ERP environment servers and decided to reclaim the space . We are having 11.1.0.7 Database . What we observed is, there are many objects present in the recyclebin and we went on to purge the reclybin of MSC user.

SQL>select owner,sum(space)* 8 / 1024/1024 "Size in GB" from dba_recyclebin group by owner order by sum(space) ;

OWNER Size in GB
--------------- ----------
MSC 127.672485
IRCUS 22.5664063
GL 2.98492432
APPS .38079834
XXDII_ESB .192993164
APPLSYS .001159668
TMPBKP .000427246

But even after purging the recycle bin of MSC User , we didn't find any changes in DBA_FREE_SPACE for those tablespaces in which recyclebin objects were present. We would have seen the freed space in dba_free_space.

SQL & PL/SQL :: Query Works In 10g But Not In 11g?

Apr 29, 2012

I have the query below that works absolutely fine in Oracle 10g but is not running in Oracle 11g. Couple of things I notices about this query.

1. If I remove the alias 'FACILITY_W_CODE' in the ORDER BY clause, query works fine in 11g. If I replace 'FACILITY_W_CODE' with the actual fields - 'F.SERVICE_AREA || F.DISTRICT_OFFICE || F.DO_GROUP || F.DO_SSC' even then it works fine.

2. If I remove the GROUP BY clause in the inside query but keep the alias 'FACILITY_W_CODE' in the outside ORDER BY clause, the query works fine.

I am not sure where the issue is, GROUP BY or the ALIAS. Also, the alias issue seems to be only where the alias is used for multiple fields.

SELECT F.SERVICE_AREA || F.DISTRICT_OFFICE || F.DO_GROUP || F.DO_SSC FACILITY_W_CODE, PF.FAC_TYPE FACILITY_TYPE, PF.FAC_IDENT LOCATION_IDENTIFIER, P.DISTRICT_CODE USER_W_CODE, P.EMAIL_ADDRESS, PF.CERTIFICATION_AUTHORITY, PF.CALLBACK_TECHNICIAN, PF.CALLBACK_ENVIRONMENTAL
