RMAN :: Duplicate Database Can't Read Backup-piece Location
Aug 28, 2013Oracle 10.2.0.5Linux 5I am creating a duplicate database using RMAN based on Oracle's documentation. I was successful up to running the duplicate command.Here is my command:DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE vlab pfile='/<complete path of pfile>'; When I run the command, it tries to read from the backup files on production database - which is on anotehr node.Before then, I had backup piece copied to the node with the duplicate database.I ran this command to catalog the backup piece:catalog start with '/<complete path to backuppiece>'Error: no files to be unknown to the database On the other hand, when I run the command without cataloging the backuppiece, I get this error:

I need to make the location parametrized so we don't have to hard code the file name file1. Can I do this in Oracle or do I need to do this in a shell script on the UNIX server?
Reports & Discoverer :: Location Of BMP (image File) In Report?
Jul 14, 2011I just started working for a company and am modifying existing reports. This report has a logo in the layout in the form of an image. Is there a way to find out where this image is located? It cannot find the image when I open the layout or run the report so I assume I am not mapped to the drive/directory where the images are located? Is this information noted anywhere in the actual report?

Feb 25, 2011I try to current redo log file location to multiplex redo log configuration. I did do this on the DB.I import a backup file to DB when I made this change, but its too slow running import process from old configuration. Approximately it is 4 times slow.
when I recovery old configuration for redo log file, import process is normal running...Why this changes hit to DB import process performance? The old redo log file location is below:

RMAN :: Give Output File Location In Crontab Using ( > )?
Aug 2, 2013I need to take RMAN full backup by every Sunday night and Wednesday night . I have the netbackup script which will take the backup to media.
Question is:1. We have 15 - backup scripts for 15 DB in that server , so if i configure crontab for backup do i need to give all 15 scripts one by one or (*) will work . ie) 00 20 * * 3,7 /app/oracle/rman/scripts/hot_db_<sid>.sh
instead of this if i give : 00 20 * * 3,7 /app/oracle/rman/scripts/hot_db_*.sh then it will works fine or not ? 2.
Already my backup will create .output file in the same location , do i need to give output file location in crontab using ( > ) ? 3.
Is the above crontab timing is correct ? (3,7) for Wednesday and Sunday 8pm? so Sunday is 0(zero) or 7 ?

Nov 19, 2012I am having enq: TX - row lock contention in top wait event. it is occurring between 10pm - 2am.
We are having sqlloader job running every one hour(conventional path). But for the specific period of time i am getting "Global Enqueue Services Deadlock detected". Between 10-5. I analyzed related trace file it is make me little confusion.I found there are four insert query culprit for this locking. out of four sql , tow of them are ran by same SID, other two insert ran by same id. I got confused because how same sid locking them self. trace file below. during this period oracle maintenance window is active.

RAC & Failsafe :: Create Shared File System Between Two Desktop PC?
May 14, 2013We are setting RAC between two machines(Desktop PC connected wirth LAN ....have storage Local to them and no Shared storage..Only NFS).We have shared the mount point by NFS.We do not have any shared storage but we need to share the RAW files to setup the OCR and VOTING DISKS.
The problem is:
1. We need to keep the RAW devices for OCR and voting disk common to the machines (Desktop PC..both Linux OELU5). I am able to create the raw file systems but that is local to one machine. I am not able to understand how to share the raw devices between two machines.
2. Tried to use ISCSI utility but that did not work. (How_to_use_iSCSI_Targets_on_Linux)
Scenario : One Machine has 500 GB Storage. Second machine has 80 GB Storage. Made private and public networks(Used two Network cards in LAN). All are communicating.
Problem : Need to make the storage 300GB (Out of 500 GB) of Machine 1 as shared storage. How can we do that? (Do we need any virtual software...ex .. vmware for that?)

1.) Import impdp is very slow 10GB/Hrs on staging database (Data Guard MAXIMUM AVAILBILITY)Since Server configuration, database version and configuration, operating system everything are same as production. No blocking, locking or waiting sessions
2.)import impdp is fast 90GB/Hrs on Test standalone database and this test database is running in NOARCHIVE LOG mode with oracle standard version after that no more difference.
CPU,Memory,network and disk I/O are look normal while importing on both databases.why that much difference on import.

Jul 13, 2010I am trying to write data to a network shared folder. When I write to a local file it works perfectly. Below is my procedure.

I have also set the parameter utl_file_dir = '\10.16.10.225 emp' When I set the utl_file_sir to a local folder, for example, c: emp, and use the same path in UTL_FILE.FOPEN, then it works fine and writes the desired output to text file. But when I give it a network address, it raises the above error.

Actually I have done some search but with no result. I have to check the oracle DMP file which is being sent through the EXP utility from oracle and have to search for a pattern in the file. If the pattern in found then send a mail.
I have tried using the GREP on the DMP and SED but as the lines are longer than expected these are not providing desired results.

Aug 30, 2012we are generating Entity beans at java appication. where application is connecting to DB and copy Table structure in Java class file. when this process start, oracle process takes 100% CPU. while there is no wait event at DB level. only queries are fired on oracle sys tables.(user_tables,user_constraints,etc..)
On trial and error based, we have changed this parameter and that java process works fine. how this parameter effect the on oracle system table.

Apr 26, 2011I am trying to create standby with oracle 10g R2 from Solaris 5.10 (sun ultrasparc X86-64 bit) to Solaris 5.10(Intel Xeon 64 bit). All the mount points are the same as primary server. All the data files are at location as specified in control file. I created standby control file from primary. All the control files are at location specified in pfile.
When I am trying to mount database I am getting following error.
ORA-00202: control file: '/oracle/BP1/ctl1.dbf'
ORA-27047: unable to read the header block of file
ORA-205 signalled during: alter database mount...
I try to open database with trace file also but got following error..
ORA-01503: CREATE CONTROLFILE failed

Dec 23, 2012We have a requirement to create a file using UTL_FILE package. so we tried to generate the file in directory at UNIX level,for example "/tmp" which means when we executing the stored procedure which in turn calls UTL_FILE package and create a file say "a.txt". On checking the permission for "a.txt", it shows as follows
-rw-r----- oracle dba a.txt
this means read and write for oracle user, read for dba group and no permission for other user.
our requirement is to have the following privileges at UNIX level.
-rw-r--r-- oracle dba a.txt
Is it possible to do at oracle level since the file is owned by oracle user or at UNIX level (with out logging to oracle user)?

1. Create an external table for the file everytime when the form is loaded by dropping and re creating the table and base the data block in the form on that table and execute_query and display the contents.
2. I am confused whether to use webutil or utlfile packages to read from the file and display on the screen as the file resides in the database or Oracle server and not forms application server or client machine.
Server Utilities :: Can't Read Bad File From Java Code
Apr 25, 2012We are using sqlldr query to load data into a table. This is handled in a java code. We are uploading an xls file which gets converted into csv and then the sqlloader call works, which in turn creates a bad and log file for error messages.
But I am not able to locate the bad file(in filesystem) within java code.
Below piece of used.

The above code is able to locate CSV ,but not the bad file(whereas both files created in same path).
