I need to setup Oracle 11gR2 single node @ Linux RHat 5 64-bit for long performance tests, huge loads, high speeds, a lot of transactions, having a good scalability, etc.
It's not a production server, but for strong system/volume tests.

I am migrating an oracle 10g to 11gR2. i am a bit confused. The developers in my work place have a tablespace for storing table and a different tablespace for storing indexes.
For the migration i am using exp and imp. My question is how i am going to migrate the indexes from 10g to 11gR2?
OS; solaris sparc 10
Oracle 10g: 10.2.0.1.0
oracle 11g: 11.2.0.1.0
Question: to migrate from oracle 10gR2 in Windows to oracle 11gR2 in Linux . Steps are:
1. need to expdp all schemas/users from oracle 10gR2 in Windows,
2. then impdp each schema/user into oracle 10gR2 in Linux first,
3. then upgrade the oracle 10gR2 in Linux to oracle 11gR2 in Linux ?
4. Do I need to pre-create all the same tablespaces first in oracle 10gR2 in Linux ?
Is it correct ? or I can migrate straight all schemas/users from oracle 10gR2 in Windows to oracle 11gR2 in Linux using impdp ?
Dose any shell script that would be able to set the oracle_home & the listeners based on the versions of software on the box?

View 12 Replies View Related I would like get more details about single node RAC.. What is single Node RAC?..
1). just configure only one server instead of two node... same RAC installation.. cluster installation and shared disk configuration in single server itself.. in future we can add node to this ...

is there any advantage using single node rac(other than online upgrade to full RAC).

View 2 Replies View Related if it is possible to install APEX version 3.0.1 on oracle database version 11.2.0.3? We currently have a 10g database with APEX 3.0.1 installed. Now for an upgrade project we need install the latest database version. Unfortunately we do not have enought time to migrate the APEX application. Therefore the APEX version should stay the same.
So any experiences with APEX 3.0.1 and RDBMS 11.2?(I searched for oracle documentation but couldn't find anything useful.)
Here are the cards I've been dealt:
I've inherited a 10.2.0.1.0 instance running on a windows 2003 box; running fine, no problems other than system has been in production since 2005 and has gotten pretty old and tired. This old box has one tablespace on it... called "gateway".
I've installed 11.2.0.1 on a new (Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise 64-bit) server and created an empty database also called "gateway".
Now to move the data and views, objects, everything.
I've read up on a variety of migration techniques (oops, I mean "upgradation" LOL) and can follow the steps...
In short, I want to pull everything off of server a (10.2) and put it into production on server b (11.2). There seems to be quit a few options.
1. install 10.2 on my NEW server (server b), move the data over and get everything running, then install 11.2 and have it upgrade the database as part of the installation process.
2. drop the empty tablespace on server b, stop the database on server a, copy the files over from the old to the new home, run DBUA or set the compatibility attribute...
3. run some type of server a to server b utility that can bridge the two over the network. Some type of mirroring technique?
4. run file export scripts on server a, copy files to server b and run various import scripts
I tend to think that option 3 would be the best because both instances are in great health and are running right now. Is there a mechanism that allows the 11.2 instance to see and upgrade from a different server?
I had installed grid infrastructure for a cluster, and RAC database. The ASM is the storage option. The configurations as follows:
Grid Home: /u01/grid/app
Oracle RAC Home: /oracle/db1/app/product/11.2/dbhome1
Can I have another RAC Database to use the existing Grid infrastructure ? The second RAC database will have different owner than db1.
The configurations as follows:
Grid Home: /u01/grid/app
DB1 Oracle RAC Home: /oracle/db1/app/product/11.2/dbhome1 and Database Name: RACDBA so the current instances are RACDBA1 and RACDBA2
DB2 Oracle RAC Home: /oracle/db2/app/product/11.2/dbhome2 and database name: RACDBB so the future instances will be RACDBB1 and RACDBB2
I've inherited a 10.2 instance here in Kuwait and I'm attempting to migrate to a brand new server; I downloaded and attempted to install 11gR2 (11.2.0.1.0) on my brand new HP clean and patched server running Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise.
I've tried clean install, re-install, install software first then database, install all together, a complete default install (other than putting the database on a different drive letter)... every time I get the same error-
Enterprise manager configuration succeeded with the following warning -
Error starting database control. Please execute the following command(s)
1) Set the environment variable ORACLE_UNQNAME to database unique name
2) ...emctl start dbconsole
There is plenty about this on the internet, google, forums. Some suggest dropping and reconfig of EM; tried that. One error leads to another error and I think I'm getting close, then some other error, more obscure than the last. VERY FRUSTRATING!
- Is this distribution broken?
- Should I try the 32-bit or just install and run the 10.2 on my brand new 64-bit server (that kinda hurts my head but I bet it would work!)
I've tried numerous re-boots, several fresh clean installs (after using the Oracle uninstaller and cleaning out the registry and deleting old files), I've set every environmental variable that I can in the system variables section including ORACLE_HOSTNAME, ORACLE_SID and ORACLE_UNQNAME.
I've tried unlocking SYSTEM and SYSMAN user accounts, I've deconfig'd the EM and have recreated the repository, reconfig'd...
Database is installed and working find. SQL plus is working and fine. It's just EM that's broken and I... just... can't... fix... it.Web page for EM starts just fine... log in (oddly, won't let me log in as SYSDBA from the web) then throws this error:
Error Internal Error has occurred. Check the log file for details.
The log files are pages long and I'm not sure what I'm looking at.
- Install different distro (like the 32-bit 11g)
- Install 10.2 and get on with my life- maybe upgrade later
- Wait for a patch?
I'm doing some testes installing grid 11.2.0.3 32bits software on a OEL6 32bits (virtual box environment). The problem appeared where i ran root.sh script on node 1. The following error appeared to me:
clscfg: -install mode specified

Can multiple ODP.NET calls potentially execute within a single Oracle session due to connection pooling?
How can I test/observe this behavior?
We have an IIS application that uses one connection string for all logged in users and call aspx pages.
