View 1 RepliesI am migrating an oracle 10g to 11gR2. i am a bit confused. The developers in my work place have a tablespace for storing table and a different tablespace for storing indexes.
For the migration i am using exp and imp. My question is how i am going to migrate the indexes from 10g to 11gR2?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am using Oracle RAC 11gR2.I am planing to move my old trace files to an archive location.
I have the below questions concerning the users and groups used by Oracle RAC when moving the trace files.It is related to the permissions but it is about oracle behavior.
The trace files of database (oracle user) are created as below:
284 -rw-r----- 1 oracle asmadmin 283571 Aug 20 18:08 PPRD1_mmon_13893716.trc
4 -rw-r----- 1 oracle asmadmin 125 Aug 20 18:10 PPRD1_gcr0_11730998.trm
4 -rw-r----- 1 oracle asmadmin 2833 Aug 20 18:10 PPRD1_gcr0_11730998.trc
580 -rw-r----- 1 oracle asmadmin 588489 Aug 20 18:12 PPRD1_lmhb_15859792.trm
[code]....
when moving the files using the oracle user it will be created as oracle:oinstall and not oracle:asmadmin since asmadmin is not a group of the oracle user.
1. How oracle created my trace and log files with permission oracle:asmadmin?
2. How should I move these files? I moved it using the Oracle user and it was created as oracle:oinstall with Operating system error "unable to duplicate owner and mode after move"
I'm new on 11g, due to my limit storage with mounted internal disk, so I think, may I can store archivelog in ASM without FRA? However, I did not find any document to verify.

I have problem with moving old DB to the new (the same DB 10.2.0 in Win 2003, first in 32 bit, second in 64 bit). I want move DB from 32 to 64 bit. Problem is that all objects in old DB were created in SYSTEM schema by SYS. I can't export that objets (with data) because impdp nor imp don't touch this objects (tables with indexes). I can't use export import procedure. I'm looking for another method to transfer data, which will be the best and the fastest? Maybe files copy on OS? I suppose it will be problems with configuration files, database have other tablespaces.

View 9 Replies View Relatedi am installing oracle 11g rel2 ( o/s : hp ux 11.31 ). already we have 11g rel1 installed in the machine where oracle inventory location is /oracle/oraInventory where /oracle is ORACLE_BASE directory..
cd /oracle
ls -ltr
drwxrwxr-x 4 ora11gr1 dba 8192 Aug 30 00:19 oraInventory
now when i install oracle 11g rel2 on the same machine, it should use the existing oraInventory..but it is prompting us to enter the new location for oraInventory during installation....but as per the naming convention, we need to keep inventory directory under /oracle/oraInventory only..
when i select oraInventory location as /oracle/oraInventory from wizard, iam getting below error:

should i uninstall the exisitng oracle 11g rel1 and then should i install rel2 (i.e what iam trying to install now ) ?if so, after instlaling rel2, then should i install rel1 ?
I was wondering if there is any way to know in which Tablespace and Datafile my Table is located. I have exported a table and about to delete it as i am partitioning it.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI have a problem(illega use of LONG) while moving image data from SQL Server 2005 database to Oracle10G table in BLOB.
insert into table
select [[mailto:.....tablename@odbc SQL|.....tablename@odbc_SQL]]
I am using HS connection and DBLink.
Here are the cards I've been dealt:
I've inherited a 10.2.0.1.0 instance running on a windows 2003 box; running fine, no problems other than system has been in production since 2005 and has gotten pretty old and tired. This old box has one tablespace on it... called "gateway".
I've installed 11.2.0.1 on a new (Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise 64-bit) server and created an empty database also called "gateway".
Now to move the data and views, objects, everything.
I've read up on a variety of migration techniques (oops, I mean "upgradation" LOL) and can follow the steps...
In short, I want to pull everything off of server a (10.2) and put it into production on server b (11.2). There seems to be quit a few options.
1. install 10.2 on my NEW server (server b), move the data over and get everything running, then install 11.2 and have it upgrade the database as part of the installation process.
2. drop the empty tablespace on server b, stop the database on server a, copy the files over from the old to the new home, run DBUA or set the compatibility attribute...
3. run some type of server a to server b utility that can bridge the two over the network. Some type of mirroring technique?
4. run file export scripts on server a, copy files to server b and run various import scripts
I tend to think that option 3 would be the best because both instances are in great health and are running right now. Is there a mechanism that allows the 11.2 instance to see and upgrade from a different server?
We have taken export expdp backup from prod database (primary database- Data Guard).
1.) Import impdp is very slow 10GB/Hrs on staging database (Data Guard MAXIMUM AVAILBILITY)Since Server configuration, database version and configuration, operating system everything are same as production. No blocking, locking or waiting sessions
2.)import impdp is fast 90GB/Hrs on Test standalone database and this test database is running in NOARCHIVE LOG mode with oracle standard version after that no more difference.
CPU,Memory,network and disk I/O are look normal while importing on both databases.why that much difference on import.
I wanted to copy some archive log files between 2 DB Server.Steps:
1) Edited the Local and Remote DB's TNSNAMES file and modifyied like below.
bookstore =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 10.80.100.28)(PORT = 1521))
)
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = BOOKSTORE)
)
)
2) Created a Source Directory --> DR1
3) Created a Target Directory --> DR2
4) Created a DB Link
CREATE DATABASE LINK LINK1 CONNECT TO <username of the Remote DB> IDENTIFIED BY <Password> USING '<Remote DB Name taken in the TNSFILE>.
5) In the Local Server I had written the below command.
create or replace procedure proc1 is
cursor c1 is select recid,substr(name,37) "ARCH_FILE" from v$archived_log;
var1 c1%rowtype;
begin
open c1;
fetch c1 into var1;
[code]...
It is working, but not coping the Files from Local To the Remote.
At my current organization there are two instances are running one is at 8i and another one is 10g. I want to migrate all the data from 8i to 10g. I have already taken the export from 8i with the below command:-
exp file=<<PATH>> full=y logfile=<<PATH>> compress=y
Now I want to import it to 10g DB. Can I do the import with that below command?
imp file=<<PATH>> full=y logfile=<<PATH>> ignore=y compile=y
I try to install th a oracle 10gR2 database to a SuSe Linux 11.4.
I try to install to tha local machine, not to a remote host. But when I start the installation every time I get the next error message:
CODECan't connect to X11 window server using '' as the value of the DISPLAY variable.
Unable to start an interactive install session because of the following error:Can't connect to X11 window server using '' as the value of the DISPLAY variable. The DISPLAY environment variable should be set to <hostname or IP address>:<screen>, where the <screen> is usually '0.0'.
Depending on the Unix Shell, you can use one of the following commands as examples to set the DISPLAY environment variable:
- For csh: % setenv DISPLAY 192.168.1.128:0.0
- For sh, ksh and bash: $ DISPLAY=192.168.1.128:0.0; export DISPLAY
Use the following command to see what shell is being used:
echo $SHELL
Use the following command to view the current DISPLAY environment variable setting:
echo $DISPLAY
- Make sure that client users are authorized to connect to the X Server. To enable client users to access the X Server, open an xterm, dtterm or xconsole as the user that started the session and type the following command:
% xhost +
To test that the DISPLAY environment variable is set correctly, run a X11 basedprogram that comes with the native operating system such as 'xclock':
% <full path to xclock... see below>
If you are not able to run xclock successfully, please refer to your PC-X Server or OS vendor for further assistance. Typical path for 'xclock': ''
I think that I don't need the x server when I install the product to the local machine. But every time I get this message.
