archive logs to be stored in its own "date formatted" separate folders.I have already configured flashrecovery area and I dont want to change it as backups are stored there.How can I achieve this without changing the flash recovery area location ? db_recovery_file_dest is set to G:log archive dest is set to F

As we know that date datatype can store both date part and time part. If I specify the Date format for my database as 'DD-MM-YYYY HH@$:MI:SS' can i ensure i anyways for a particular columns in the database containing date values the format is 'DD-MM-YYYY' i.e without the time part.Can we specify seperate date formats for specific columsn in database during table creation?

Now I have a need to construct a RAC when two nodes will be in separate locations, abot 4 miles from each one. What should I explain to our network administrator he needs to do to implement this solution? I've been told that they can do a FO channel to each location. But don't have exact clear explicaton.

As you can see, it's split the entries into date ranges. If there is a 'lone' date, the 'period start' and the 'period end' are the same date.

I am trying to use the Oracle Sum() to get a grouping by DATE, LOCATION, SUM(PROD1+PROD2) for DATE periods 10/12/2011 and 11/12/2011. Below is the desired end result.

I want to capture date and time in separate fields from user and save it in single column in table
example: user enters date and time
Date : 08/05/20212
Time : 18:50:00
At the time of save I want to save [08/05/2012 18:50:00].
When I run a query form the the Query Window in Visuial Studios 2012 all the date fields truncated to 'mm/dd/yyyy', but i need the full date returned. I am able to get full date from TO_char(MyDateField, 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss'), but if I do TO_DATE(MyDateField, 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss') it only returns 'mm/dd/yyyy'. I'm sure this is a simple setting in Visual studios but I cant find it to save my life. Is there there a way to have the full date returned by default?

We have taken export expdp backup from prod database (primary database- Data Guard).
1.) Import impdp is very slow 10GB/Hrs on staging database (Data Guard MAXIMUM AVAILBILITY)Since Server configuration, database version and configuration, operating system everything are same as production. No blocking, locking or waiting sessions
2.)import impdp is fast 90GB/Hrs on Test standalone database and this test database is running in NOARCHIVE LOG mode with oracle standard version after that no more difference.
CPU,Memory,network and disk I/O are look normal while importing on both databases.why that much difference on import.
In one of the query used like below is it correct or any need to be correct for date format? currently it's returning two tyoe of sets 1.NUll 2.01-JAN-00

I have a simple question, hope it has a simple answer. I changed the default date format for a SCHEMA using a TRIGGER and AFTER LOGON, so it set the NLS_DATE_FORMAT='YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS'. It does work fine, however, the problem is when I connect using a client with JDBC driver. When using SQL PLUS I get the date in the format specified above YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS, however, when using a client (Aqua Data 6.5.8 I know it is kinda old) and SQuirrel SQL 3.4.0 I always get the date in the YYYY-MM-DD format. I started to think that the issue is with the JDBC because it works fine when I connect with SQLPLUS.

in database debtodt is in char format , calculating from-- TO_CHAR(add_months(b.FRMDT,b.period)-1,'dd-mm-yyyy')
and also in oracle form it is char,thats why i am changing it either debtodt into date format or sysdate into char format. but it is showing error as: encountered the symbol "DD" when expecting one of these.................

The date format for the column join_dt is dd-mon-yyyy. But I want to modify the date format for this column as 'MM/DD/YYYY'.
For that I tried
ALTER snapshot EMPLOYEE_CRIS_MVIEW modify(TO_CHAR(join_dt,'MM/DD/YYYY'));
But I got the error
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00902: invalid datatype
change the date format of the column of the snapshot with out dropping the snapshot.
