i have a doubt in building a query.
I have a table with fields
job_no activity Date
101 anchorage 20/01/2010
102 berthing 25/01/2010
103 sailing 29/01/2010
If i want to know the status of the ship on the date '22/01/2010' It has to show as 'anchorage', becoz on '25/01/2010' only it came to berthing from anchorage. How to write a query to achieve this.

I need to list the purchase Ordrers which are not closed.
my sql query should pull if the PO is not closed in 30,90 and 150 days.
It should be shown only on 3oth,90th and 150th day only even the Purchase order is not closed on 33rd day.
Its a simple query to retrieve data with the Order_ID.If the record is there its fine and can retrieve the data. But my query is to retrieve the list of order_id which has no records in database.

I have already done auto increment by making sequence and trigger. but now the problem is when i am trying to retrieve data from that table it returns all data perfectly but the primary key that is my auto increment value shows blank.I am facing this problem with join query, there 4 table left joined in my query. But when I remove join from my query then it shows that value.
But i need that value in my join query.So, what is the problem and what can I do?And other thing is when I apply this query in Oracle SQL Developer, it works perfect.

I need to retrieve the records where the involvement is either a person or an organization. Using the code below i receive an error stating that the outer join operator is not allowed in the operand OR:

There are over 1500 records, but this query does not return any row. If i change rownum >= 100 to rownum <= 100 it returns first hundred records though... What is wrong here?

I have to write a file using the UTL_FILE that needs to look like the one below. I am getting the righ results but I am getting duplicates, If I have more than one records retrieve in the Invoice_data_cur cursor(for the same pidm) I got the right results, but I got duplicate data, in another words if I retrieve 3 records from the Invoice_ data_cur, I got the same record write to the file 3 times, but the right results. I have inherited a query that union alls 2 select statements, I added a further field to one of the select statements ( a date field). However I need to add another dummy field to the 2nd select statement so the union query marries up I have tried to do this by simply adding a

'date_on'
to add a field called date on populated by 'date_on' (the name of the column in the first query)
however when I run the union query i get the error Ora-01790 expression must have same datatype as corresponding expression.

I am new to SQL and I am just wondering if there is a solution to a problem I am having.I am using the piece of code below.Essentially what I am doing is selecting a field from a table and ordering that field in descending order. Using the Row_Number feature I then specify which Row I want to return.
Every day the row I will want is the Count of field1 for that day divided by 100 minus 1. This returns a single value of field1 and a single value of R.
I perform this operation every day. The only fields I change every day are the dates and the value of R. I use a seperate piece of SQL code to calculate R each day.
My problem is I have to often populate historical tables with this data. I can only run the code once for each day and for each value of R. Is there anyway I can alter this code such that it can return multiple values of field1 over several dates?The only way I can think of is to repeat the code multiple times using UNION but I am hoping there is a more efficient way.

I have the below query which is doing FTS and is very expensive causing load to timeout.
I did my analysis and found that table is having large number of records and hence FTS is taking long time causing timeout from app side.
I proposed to have this table partitioned but this is still pending with business and they in meantime want some solution other solution to fix this issue.
