RMAN :: ORA-01589 Must Use RESETLOGS Option For Database Open?
Dec 4, 2012
I am running 10.1.0 and the database went down and I have been trying to get it started again. I have worked through several errors but stuck on this one.When trying to run startup I get this error ORA-01589 must use RESETLOGS or NORESETLOGS option for database open.
restored from tape a backup then issued rman command
RMAN> restore database;

RMAN> alter database open;

I am trying to create a clone database using hot backup of a database .
STEPS THAT I FOLLOWED ------------------------------------
LET ----- >CURRENT_DB NAME=DEV CLONE DATABASE NAME=DEVCLONE
steps PERFORMED FORM DEV DB ----------------------------------------------- - put the database in backup mode using 'alter database begin backup' - copy all the data files to a different folder - during copy i have performed some operations on the DB (creating users, tables, dmls etc...) - in between copying i also performed log switch - after completion of copy , "alter database end backup" - created a backup control file in a human readable format (alter database backup controlfile to trace as ........)
steps performed for clone DB side ((DEVCLONE) ------------------------------------------------------------------- - created a parameter file for the database . - modified the backup control file so that it will point to the location of copied destination of datafiles - set the ORACLE_SID - then 'sqlplus / as sysdba - starup nomount - run the modified control file ( created a control file for the clone database) - recover the database using "recover database using backup controlfile" I have provided the archive files that it was asking for (archive logs that has been generated in DEV DB) then i canceled the recovery by typing "cancel" - recover database using backup controlfile until cancel; then typed "cancel" - then try to open the database with open resetlogs but it showed below error
alter database open resetlogs * ERROR at line 1: ORA-01195: online backup of file 1 needs more recovery to be consistent ORA-01110: data file 1: 'D:DATA_GUARDDEVHOTSYSTEM01.DBF'
On database A we have full backups (not incrementals) every morning at 3:00 AM including archive logs. When I query rman (list backup) I see the full at 3 AM (in two backup pieces, each in its own backup set) as well as the backup piece containing archive logs through 9:00 AM.
Due to a data issue at around 10AM, I attempted to do an incomplete recovery to 8:00 AM (data loss is not a concern) - once this was complete I opened the database with resetlogs.
I subsequently discovered that the data issue had occurred closer to 6:00 AM and I am now trying to restore to 5:00 AM. This is failing with the 'UNTIL TIME IS BEFORE RESETLOGS' error. I read up on incarnations, but my previous incarnation is from November, and when I reset the database to this incarnation and attempt a restore I get datafile 1 (2,3) is not available for restore.
how do I basically just restore the full 3:00 AM backup and apply the archive logs through 5:00 AM? Do I need to do a recover until cancel or something? And should I reset the incarnation?
I tried to run the duplicate script after transferring new rman backup to standby. Even after transferring the backup, duplicate command and was unable to open the database.
I am using RMAN with a recovery catalog option on a separate Database. My question is
When we use catalog does RMAN keep the information in Control file of the Target Database as well or only in recovery catalog? I am asking this in case We lost the database which contains the recovery catalog what to do?
I am performing testing on the database recovery after upgrading my backup solution software. I attempted to restore from tape media that is dated back at April 1st. My colleague have perform the same recovery from the same tape media during middle of April.
After restore, I encounter some problem and I could no longer up the database anymore.
These are the steps I have taken to perform recovery. It is being perform when the database in mount mode
SQL> recover database using backup controlfile until TIME '2012-04-01:21:55:00' ORA-00283: recovery session canceled due to errors ORA-19909: datafile 1 belongs to an orphan incarnation ORA-01110: data file 1: '/oracle/AP1/sapdata1/system_1/system.data1'

We have cloned the db and after opening the db with resetlog option we came to know that one of the user db file is not part of the db and is showing the below error while checking the status and attempting to online it. When checking the size and availability of the dbfile it shows everything without errors.
SQL> alter database datafile 50 online; alter database datafile 50 online * ERROR at line 1: ORA-01122: database file 50 failed verification check ORA-01110: data file 50: '+DATA/orcl/orcldata.291.730828357.dbf' ORA-01251: Unknown File Header Version read for file number 50
I am using oracle 10gXE just for basic practice but its showing following Errors
SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production on Fri Mar 8 11:46:34 2 Copyright (c) 1982, 2005, Oracle. All rights reserved.
SQL> conn sys as sysdba Enter password: Connected to an idle instance. SQL> SQL> SQL> SQL> startup; ORA-01081: cannot start already-running ORACLE - shut it down fir SQL> SQL> SQL> SQL> select * from dept; select * from dept [code]....
Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Database Control Release 11.2.0.1.0 Agent is running, dbconsole too. to the database through SQL Developer and SQL Plus connects. when you go to localhost:1158/em opens a BLANK PAGE that contains 2 "squiggles" view"|[ ]]" tried in different browsers, identical. a feeling that most web interface is physically not in folders.
Basic situation is this: Oracle 10g database, good RMAN backup from a few days ago. We lost one datafile due to storage corruption. I restored the datafile from RMAN, no problem, and started to roll forward with our archive logs. Problem: one log is corrupted, can't be read, no other copies of it. We are stuck, cannot roll forward any further. The database is up (all activity suspended for now) -- only this one file is offline. Everything else is fine.
My question: Can i do something similar to "open resetlogs" with just the one datafile? Most of what was in the file was indexes, which can be easily dropped & recreated. But a few extents were data which I want to retain. It's old data and the archive logs subsequent to the one on which we are stuck should be pretty much irrelevant. So if i can 'force' the datafile to open up, i believe we should be OK with the little bit of data that's in there, even if we don't apply the remaining archive logs. If it's not 100% consistent we can live with that.
I have problems in opening the database of the physical standby in read- write mode/ read only mode. I have a primary server which is running on 2 node RAC and the standby on a seperate single server being used as DR. I recently got this server and my aim was to isolate the standby server from primary server and perform few test. As it has never been tested even once.
Primary Database spec: (2 Node Rac on ASM) Oracle Version : 10.2.0.3.0 O/s : HP-UX B.11.23
alter database recover managed standby database cancel;
Database altered.
SQL> alter database open 2 ; alter database open * ERROR at line 1: ORA-16004: backup database requires recovery ORA-01152: file 1 was not restored from a sufficiently old backup ORA-01110: data file 1: '+DATA/dprod/datafile/system01.dbf'
Steps tried so far: Changed log_archive_dest_2 = DEFER on both the primary nodes
Standby :
startup nomount alter database mount standby database; alter database recover managed standby database disconnect; alter database recover managed standby database cancel; alter database open/readonly (tried both) Same error.
On Primary: SQL> select max(sequence#) from v$log_history;
Additional Information : There is a delay of 20 minutes before the logs get applied. which has been intentional set by team. Dataguard broker is not configured as well.
Suddenly I can't open any of my physical standby databases read only. Alert log snippet and trace files follow post. I'm running 9.2.0.1.0 on all hosts, which are running AIX 5.2. I've successfully opened all physical standby databases read only numerous times in the past. Is it possible that these standby databases cannot be switched over to primary should the need arise?
Here's how I typically open a physical standby database read only:
alter database recover managed standby database cancel; alter database open read only;
Errors in file /ora/product/9.2.0.1.0/rdbms/log/icps1_ora_27382.trc: ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1 ORA-16000: database open for read-only access Error 604 happened during db open, shutting down database USER: terminating instance due to error 604
I'd like to have my 11g database authenticate users against an OpenLDAP service. We'd still create accounts in the database, and do authorization within the database, but I'd just want to the user's passwords authenticated externally, against the OpenLDAP service. Is this possible? My searching through these forums and Google seems to indicate that you can do it if you run an Oracle Internet Directory (OID) service. I do not want to have to install and maintain an Oracle Internet Directory service. I'd like to do it without it.
I have a working PL/SQL function (below) that can authenticate a passed in username & password against our OpenLDAP directory. Is there any way for me to have Oracle call this function for the database user authentication? Or is there any other way for me to get the Oracle database to directly authenticate against OpenLDAP without having to run OID?
create or replace function ldap_authenticate(username varchar2, password varchar2) return boolean is begin begin if dbms_ldap.success = dbms_ldap.simple_bind_s( [code]........

I am facing a strange issue on 11gR2 (OEL 5.4) standby readonly with apply database.It's throwing 16000: database open for read-only access during SELECT's .

I am using oracle 10g R2. Some how control file is corrupted and database is not open. and there is no backup of control file. Now i need to open the database without recreating the database.
I tried to clone a 2 node rac database to single instance non rac database using existing backup. I have not used connectivity to target or catalog. rman duplicate finished with below messages:
rman auxiliary sys/******@dbracdup RMAN> duplicate database to dbrac spfile backup location '/oracle/backup'; ... ... Finished recover at 25-JUL-12 Segmentation fault
And the database was in mount stage, and when i tried to open database it failed with below error:
SQL> alter database open; alter database open * ERROR at line 1: ORA-19838: Cannot use this control file to open database .
creating the standby database from Active database using RMAN and getting the below issue after i executed the duplicate command.

provide any work arounds to proceed further in creating the standby database.
How one should know whether RMAN is using target database control file or using separate catalog database. Also what one should do if he dont have catalog users credentials.
I am trying to create the Physical StandBy Database in the same server. Till last 2 Final steps, everything went on well. In the final steps, when I try to open the StandBy Database, it throws the following Error:
******************************************************* SQL...> alter database open; alter database open * ERROR at line 1: ORA-01154: database busy. Open, close, mount, and dismount not allowed now *******************************************************
I tried creating the Physical Standby with the following Steps.
Environment: Oracle Release 10.2.0.1.0 / Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition SP2 Primary DB = 'PrimDB' StandBy DB to be created ='StBy1DB'
In the same Server, location for
PrimDB datafiles='F:oracleproduct10.2.0oradataPrimDBData', StandBy Datafiles='E:StandBy_DBData' PrimDB Control Files='F:oracleproduct10.2.0oradataPrimDBControl' StandBy Control Files= 'E:StandBy_DBControl'
[code]....
Step 1 Create the Oracle Service for StandBy DB "StBy1DB' and Create the Standy DB Password file.
The script has successfully created on standby db all controlfiles and also has copied 2 data files DATA01.DBF and DATA02.DBF into the correct location. Then the errors above kicked in and stopped the rman dup process.
I want to create a wallet on RAC setup.I have two node setup.I have created the wallet directory under shared folder /u01/oradata/$ORACLE_SID/wallet
I am Unable to open wallet.I tried this using the below command
SQL> alter system set encryption key identified by "aryabhat"; alter system set encryption key identified by "aryabhat" * ERROR at line 1: ORA-28353: failed to open wallet
I have created database with 11.2.0.3 in RHEL 5. I have catalog database(RMAN) with version 10.2.0.1 and 5 databases with different versions(10.2.0.1,10.2.0.3,10.2.0.5) registered with this catalog databases.
Now I want to register the 11.2.0.3 database with catalog (RMAN) database.
Am getting error while I register :
