Unable To Open Physical Database For Testing?
Jun 13, 2011
I have problems in opening the database of the physical standby in read- write mode/ read only mode. I have a primary server which is running on 2 node RAC and the standby on a seperate single server being used as DR. I recently got this server and my aim was to isolate the standby server from primary server and perform few test. As it has never been tested even once.
Primary Database spec: (2 Node Rac on ASM)
Oracle Version : 10.2.0.3.0
O/s : HP-UX B.11.23
Standby Database spec: (Single Node)

Suddenly I can't open any of my physical standby databases read only. Alert log snippet and trace files follow post. I'm running 9.2.0.1.0 on all hosts, which are running AIX 5.2. I've successfully opened all physical standby databases read only numerous times in the past. Is it possible that these standby databases cannot be switched over to primary should the need arise?
Here's how I typically open a physical standby database read only:
alter database recover managed standby database cancel;
alter database open read only;

I'm using Oracle Database 11g R2 for study purposes.Currently I'm learning about the DBCA clonic templates.I have an Oracle DB 11g R2 X86 running properly in Ms Windows XP Professional SP 3 X86, using DBCA I created the seed template file .dbc and the .CTL and .DBF files, later I copied those files to a server running Oracle DB 11g R2 X86 in Ms Windows 7 Ultimate X86. Again, using DBCA I successfully created the source database through the seed template file, everything was ok.
Now, I formatted my testing server and I installed Ms Windows 7 Ultimate X64 and Oracle Database 11g R2 X64. I copied the seed template file .dbc and the .CTL and .DBF files to "assistantsdbca emplates" directory. Well, I started DBCA to try create the source database and when the DBCA is creating and starting the Oracle instance it shows the errors:
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL Level 1
ORA-06553: PLS-801: Internal error [56327]
Is it possible to clone my testing DB from X86 to X64 using DBCA clonic templates?

We are currently replacing all public database links with private db links in our prod environment. The requirement is
1) private db link name should be same as public
2) Need to create and test out private db links before we can drop public db links.
How can we test out private db links while public db links are still there with the same name?
when I execute SELECT * FROM DUAL@DBLINK from user who created this private db link, which db link it will be using- public or private?

one of my friend created a form in his PC(which is having the same configuration as my PC) and sent me that .fmb file. when I'm opening that form, it is throwing "FRM-11009 : Failed to load in the color palette" error..
I have checked the CAUPREFS.ORA where Forms.color_mode = 1 and I haven't found 'forms.color_pallete' entry in that file.

Lots of email alerts reporting SQL Loader failures (the data is actually loading) but I want to prevent all these email alerts being fired. We have an SQL Loader script that is failing regularly with this error, however the data does end up in the tables so it must run subsequently succesfully the log files are cleared out quite quickly so it is difficult to track the errors. Why is there no filename just a.day reference in the error log file?
Below is the shell script I do not have much script experience, so I am unable to see how I can alter this...could I add some kind of exclusive lock check to see if I actually have access to the file before SQL Loader tries to Load it?

I need to rename an Oracle9i database on windows which has a physical standby database running on a different machine.
I have the steps to rename the primary database but am unsure of it's impact on the physical standby database. It seems like I will have to re-create the physical standby database, since renaming the primary database involves opening the db with "resetlogs". It's a production environment hence can't play with it without knowing the results.

I have a question about Oracle schemas. Oracle schema is the user with its datase objects (table, index, eg) .In two different Oracle schemas, there can be two tables with same names. When the users connect to same Oracle instance they can access these tables with schema.tablename convention.
However, how is that structure handled in physical database storage. Are there two tables created with same name physically? I mean are these two tables with same name stored in different database files?

We're currently in a situation where the primary database server fs size does not match the standby database server fs size.
Standby database filesystem is almost 100% utilized, and we suggested to move some of the datafiles first to avoid threshold alerts and archive gaps.
Now, if we're gonna move datafiles on the physical standby, I believe the process would be stop managed redo apply -> shutdown standby -> OS move -> startup mount -> alter rename -> start managed redo apply. Is this correct? If not, how?
Also, would it have an effect if the controlfiles of primary and standby do not match because of the movement?

1) The Primary Database is UP. The Physical Stand By Database is DOWN. The Current Archive Log Sequence is 99 in Primary.
We have to apply Archive Log from 51 to 99 to the Standby Database. But Unfortunately, there is no backup of those Archivelogs and the ArchiveLogs from 51 to 98 have got deleted at Primary end.
Now how will you apply these Archive Logs from Primary Database to Physical Standby Database?
Note : The Physical StandBy Database is DOWN.

I have set up a single instance standbys for rac databases. Now, I need to offload the backups from the primary on to the standbys.
1. cancel managed recovery
2. connect to target(standby) and catalog and backup the standby
3. put standby in managed recovery mode.
I think following these steps, I can restore primary(?). Now, My question is, how can I use these standby backups to clone/refresh databases? I tried it by connecting to target(primary), catalog and auxiliary but rman is using the primary backups instead of standby's to refresh the auxiliary database.
