Jun 3, 2013I am trying to create a clone database using hot backup of a database .
STEPS THAT I FOLLOWED

LET ----- >CURRENT_DB NAME=DEV
CLONE DATABASE NAME=DEVCLONE
steps PERFORMED FORM DEV DB
-----------------------------------------------
- put the database in backup mode using 'alter database begin backup'
- copy all the data files to a different folder
- during copy i have performed some operations on the DB (creating users, tables, dmls etc...)
- in between copying i also performed log switch
- after completion of copy , "alter database end backup"
- created a backup control file in a human readable format (alter database backup controlfile to trace as ........)
steps performed for clone DB side ((DEVCLONE)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
- created a parameter file for the database .
- modified the backup control file so that it will point to the location of copied destination of datafiles
- set the ORACLE_SID
- then 'sqlplus / as sysdba
- starup nomount
- run the modified control file ( created a control file for the clone database)
- recover the database using "recover database using backup controlfile"
I have provided the archive files that it was asking for (archive logs that has been generated in DEV DB)
then i canceled the recovery by typing "cancel"
- recover database using backup controlfile until cancel;
then typed "cancel"
- then try to open the database with open resetlogs but it showed below error
alter database open resetlogs

Why do I need to specify an option at the first place?As my redo is intact, it is not incomplete recovery and, I do not want to generate new incarnation of my database.Why oracle simply not opening my database?

I have oracle installed in c drive. I have placed 3 datafile related to one tablespace say test: two in D and one in E. I have place 3 datafile related to tablespace say orcl : two in D and one in E.
my undo is in E scenario is that my E drive crashed . db is in no archive mode . no backup is there. to be more worst db shuts down abnormally. I want my db open with data of c drive and D drive.
Not Able To Resetlogs After Recovery
Jul 16, 2012I am performing testing on the database recovery after upgrading my backup solution software. I attempted to restore from tape media that is dated back at April 1st. My colleague have perform the same recovery from the same tape media during middle of April.
After restore, I encounter some problem and I could no longer up the database anymore.
These are the steps I have taken to perform recovery. It is being perform when the database in mount mode
SQL> recover database using backup controlfile until TIME '2012-04-01:21:55:00'
ORA-00283: recovery session canceled due to errors
ORA-19909: datafile 1 belongs to an orphan incarnation
ORA-01110: data file 1: '/oracle/AP1/sapdata1/system_1/system.data1'

Incomplete Recovery / Resetlogs On Just One Restored Datafile?
Feb 4, 2013Basic situation is this: Oracle 10g database, good RMAN backup from a few days ago. We lost one datafile due to storage corruption. I restored the datafile from RMAN, no problem, and started to roll forward with our archive logs. Problem: one log is corrupted, can't be read, no other copies of it. We are stuck, cannot roll forward any further. The database is up (all activity suspended for now) -- only this one file is offline. Everything else is fine.
My question: Can i do something similar to "open resetlogs" with just the one datafile? Most of what was in the file was indexes, which can be easily dropped & recreated. But a few extents were data which I want to retain. It's old data and the archive logs subsequent to the one on which we are stuck should be pretty much irrelevant. So if i can 'force' the datafile to open up, i believe we should be OK with the little bit of data that's in there, even if we don't apply the remaining archive logs. If it's not 100% consistent we can live with that.

shutdown database.
Place available dbf files in the location for new database, replacing existing files.
edit trace file to create new controlfile. Script is:

Mar 15, 2011I am trying to clone a database on another server with different direcory structure. So that path on the source db server are /u04 whereas on on target db server it would be /u03.
Since this I am testing it on small database initially I have kept all datafiles, backup and archivelogs at /u04 and /u03 on the source and target db servers respectively Now I have copied the backups from source db server to target and since path is changed, I cataloged it
However during restore I am getting

Aug 7, 2012I've read a lot about the different types of backup available with Oracle (hot and cold backup). However, I was thinking of a different way of performing this task. I'm currently using Windows Server 2008 R2 and Oracle 11g Standard Edition. I'd like to schedule an entire backup of my server via the utility "Windows Server Backup" (available for free).That way, I could recover my entire server with all the programs and files in case the latter crashes.I'm wondering if this solution could be used as a way of backing up (and recovering) the Oracle database. Should I still set up a regular hot backup with the Archivelog mode enabled in case some operations/transactions were being done at the time of the crash (for the data integrity)?

We got a DataGaurd database in place which we want to utilize to run the RMAN backup on to avoid performance impacts and just use DG database for backup and DR purposes. My Question is if we run the backups on DataGaurd Database, How would a RMAN DG database backup would clear the archive logs from Primary production and from DataGaurd Database during the backup process?
