Loss Of All Control-files?

View 2 RepliesI had a database on an old P4 running but the motherboard got fried. I was able to recover all the data files (.ctl and *.dbf) plus the redo logs (.log). There is no export or backup taken - I have old ones, but I need to recover the latest which only existed in the data files.
I now have Oracle installed on a new P5 machine and was wondering if it is possible to use these data files in the new database? If so, how do I go by restoring the data files?
Both the P4 and P5 where running Red Hat Linux.
1)Is there a way to load two tables from two input files in one control file?
I have two control files.
LOAD DATA

BADFILE 'C:
ame.bad'
DISCARDFILE 'C:
[code]....
Can i load emp_tab and job_table using one control file and two input files name.txt and job.txt?
2)Is there a way to pass the path as a parameter in the control file?
In the job below, when i execute the sqlldr , can I pass C:/job.txt as an input instead of specifying it in control file?
I was carrying out an experiment in order to crash the database and recover it.
The database was running, I moved the control file to another location and to my surprise the database was still running. I tried issuing checkpoint and transaction but it didn't affect database operations. I tried doing log switch. It completed successfully. According to my understanding and Oracle Certification books database was supposed to crash. But it didn't.
I tried this not only on RHEL, Windows XP but also in Solaris 5.10. The database version is Oracle 10.2.0.4 Standard Edition.
I'm trying to modify my dbca template to include two control files. One on ASM +RECO and we we're thinking of adding the second one on the database filesystem $ORACLE_BASE/something/something Within the template there are references to controlfiles two places:
Initparameter:
<initParam name="control_files" value="("{ORACLE_BASE}/oradata/{DB_UNIQUE_NAME}/control01.ctl", "{ORACLE_BASE}/fast_recovery_area/{DB_UNIQUE_NAME}/control02.ctl")"/>
and
<StorageAttributes>
<ControlfileAttributes id="Controlfile">
<maxDatafiles>32767</maxDatafiles>
<maxLogfiles>1024</maxLogfiles>
<maxLogMembers>3</maxLogMembers>
<maxLogHistory>32767</maxLogHistory>
<maxInstances>8</maxInstances>
<image name="control01.ctl" filepath="{ORACLE_BASE}/oradata/{DB_UNIQUE_NAME}/"/>
<image name="control02.ctl" filepath="+RECO"/>
</ControlfileAttributes>
With this configuration there is only one controlfile created and that is on +RECO. What am I doing wrong and also should I add the second controlfile to +DATA instead of fielsystem $ORACLE_BASE?
I have restored database with the name DB to another database called DB01
it is in STARTED status (not mounted) and it seems I can not change the name if it is not mounts, and I can not mount it because of the name, how to solve this issue if possible? I have RMAN full backup from DB on my current server which hosting the database DB01 the initdb01.ora is ready and configured with DB01
what can I do next
ORA-01103: database name 'DB' in control file is not 'DB01'
I've been using ASM for a few years now and have always installed a new system with 3 diskgroups
+DATA - for datafiles, control files, redo logs
+FRA - for achive logs, flash recovery. RMAN backup
Those I guess are the standards, but I've always created an extra (very small) diskgroup, called +ONLINE where I keep multiplexed copies of the redo logs and control files.
My reasoning behind this is that if there are any issues with the +DATA diskgroup, the redo logs and control files can still be accessed.
In the olden days (all those 5 years ago!), on local storage, this was important, but is it still important now? With all the striping and mirroring going on (both at ASM and RAID level), am I just being overtly paranoid? Does this additional +ONLINE diskgroup actually hamper performance? (with dual write overheads that are not necessary)
I am trying to setup my environment to prepare for hands on DBA exercises from an OCM handbook for 10g -OCM:Oracle Database 10g Administrator Certified Master Exam Guide
I need access to the following files
gc_10205_part1of2.zip, gc_10205_part2of2.zip for 32 bit linux
Apparently the above along with other Grid software was once attainable from the link below but sometime between this year and the last Oracle decided to remove this and other software from public access. URL.....
I doubt Oracle will hear my plea - educational purposes only - so given I want access to the software only.
I have a server with Red Hat EL 5.5 running an oracle database 10g R2 and an Oracle Agent 10.2.0.5The disk ran out of space and I realized that there are a lot of files stating with core.xxx such as :
-rw------- 1 gridagent oinstall 17M Aug 2 13:10 core.10348
-rw------- 1 gridagent oinstall 17M Aug 2 13:15 core.10827
-rw------- 1 gridagent oinstall 17M Aug 2 12:30 core.4129
-rw------- 1 gridagent oinstall 17M Aug 2 12:35 core.4772
What's that ?Why are those files generated at $AGENT_HOME/<HOST>_<SID>/sysman/log/ ?
There are more than 24 GB of those files
in nmc.log I can see lines such as:
NMC-00000 2010-08-02 13:25:39 [11760, nmcdbg.c,0440]TRC: Debug context enabled.

I've got a legacy SAP system with oracle 8i on Tru64. No changes at all are made but for legal reasons we have to keep it up and running.
we currently do a full backup monthly by shutting down oracle and doing a backup of all the files to tape and that takes around 12 hours.
If I stop doing the full backup and I only backup the control file and the archived redo log files every month and I had to restore the full database years from now, would I be able to restore the database using the last full monthly backup and use the latest control file and archived redo log files?
I have a database using character set AL32UTF8. The database contains character strings (VARCHAR2 colums) that may contain both Western European and Eastern European characters (and may be even other kinds of characters such as Cyrillic or Asian).
Suppose a client application has set NLS_LANG character set to WE8ISO8859P1. By this Western European characters will be shown correctly, while Eastern European characters which do not compare with WE8ISO8859P1 will be converted and shown as '?' (question marks) in the client application. If a user of this application fetches a record with Eastern European characters, modifies the record and then rewrites it to the database, the Eastern European characters with be rewritten to the database as question marks, i.e. Eastern European data have been corrupted.
I would like to prevent this by detecting that data were not converted properly during the fetch and then show the record to the user in read-only mode in order to avoid data loss, but I have not been able to detect the conversion error.
The application fetches data through the OCI interface using the "ofetch" function. The error code set by ofetch is the same (i.e. no error) regardless of whether the record contains Eastern European characters or not.
I thought I could manage this by setting the database parameter NLS_NCHAR_CONV_EXCP to TRUE, but this has no effect. Apparently this only deals with operations directly in the database.
We would like to remove the partitions from a particular table. The table in question has 12 partitions. Based on some initial investigation, I've come up with the following options. because the table we going to remove partition will have millions of records so on considering the db downtime we are looking for a alternative way. Is there a better way?
Copy data into another table, drop all partitions, then copy the data back into the original table
Copy data into another table, drop the original table, then rename the new table and rebuild the indexes.
got this Errormessage "ORA-12713: Character data loss in NCHAR/CHAR conversion" during a rman backupjob! How can I fixed it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having a issue, we are trying to restore our db from control files using Symantec Backup exec, but job fails giving me error go to table spaces select all table spaces and unchecked roll forward.
i am unable to find way to uncheck the table spaces. Here is the complete description.
Cause
The system catalog tablespace "syscatspace" contains all of the system catalog information for the tables. Syscatspace needs to be rolled forward first, and then the other tablespaces must be rolled forward.
Solution
Workaround:
When the restore operation is run from a tablespace level backup, perform the rollforward for the syscatspace tablespace first and then for other tablespaces.
Execute the rollforward operation as a DBA operation. The sequence of the recovery process should be as follows:
1. Select all tablespaces, uncheck the rollforward option and run the restore job.
2. Run the rollforward operation as a DBA initiated operation:
rollforward syscatspace to point in time / end of logs. e.g. db2 => rollforward database UEXIT to end of logs and complete Tablespace (SYSCATSPACE) online
3. Perform rollforward of all other tablespaces.
e.g. db2 => rollforward database UEXIT to end of logs and complete tablespace (SYSTOO LSPACE,USERSPACE1) online
Refer to IBM DB2 documentation for more information on DBA-initiated operations.
I have an oracle autoback of controlfile and spfile. I am trying to restore the production database using this backup, into a new server with a different directory structure.
I have completed the following steps in the restore process.
1. Creating a pfile from spfile
2. Changing the the location of cdump, udump, bdump and the control files ( there are three )
3. Then creating a spfile from this pfile
I am stuck on the next step where to rename all the datafiles and tempfile and restore the database. Following is what I did.
After mounting the database in RMAN, tried to run the following.
RMAN> run
2> {
3> allocate channel c1 device type disk
4> ;
5> @/home/oracle/rman_scripts/newloc.rman
6> SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 1 TO '/u02/oradata/dorian/system01.dbf';
7> SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 2 TO '/u02/oradata/dorian/undotbs01.dbf';
8> SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 3 TO '/u02/oradata/dorian/sysaux01.dbf';
9> SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 4 TO '/u02/oradata/dorian/users01.dbf';
[code]....
I am getting the following error message.

I have written make files that compile .pc files in unix. This was for several projects that use an oralib source code directory.Just running proc on one target .pc file works fine on unix. I am trying to use proc - Oracle 10.2.0 - in windows and I keep getting:
Quote:unable to open include file
#include <stdio.h>
and other C library headers.
I am doing all development under cygwin, this way I can write a makefile just like under unix instead of using nmake.All C library headers are in /usr/include When I run proc on Solaris as that:
proc program.pc
No problems, and I do get program.c.
However in windows I get the previous error message. I have tried to do proc include=/user/include program.pc and proc include=/user/include parse=full program.pc but I still get the same error message.
How can I know if database files are on file system or raw files?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am using OEM Grid control 10g for monitoring/reporting purposes and a bit new to OEM.I am able to generate database alerts sent via email say for DB_abc1 and also generate reports.I installed Oracle 10g agent on a another box and lets say with DB_abc2 running on it,and did not realise that there was a database control already installed on that box, so I
1.Uninstalled database control on DB_abc2 box.
2.Uninstalled Oracle 10g agent and re-installed it on DB_abc2 box.
2.Was able to configure the DB_abc2 database from OEM Grid control gui ie the dbsnmp user password and was able to connect to it.
But when I put in alert for things like ORA-XXXX errors I am not getting any emails, also when I put in database usage reports(to be sent via emails) the reports are not picking up any data, they are empty.
I checked the agent on the box in question and the heart beat is OK, and I manually uploaded using "emctl upload" and it is sucessful.The only alerts I am getting for DB_abc1 is the agent up/down thats it.
DB_abc1 is a 9208 database and DB_abc2 is 10201 database.
I need to install the new Oracle Grid on a new virtual machine. Currently the new Grid VM server has a different name and IP. After it is setup and tested it will eventually take the place of the old production server using its original IP and name. If I install the new Grid now on this new VM with different name and IP address would I have to reinstall the agents on each of the target database servers?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn my system all my control files get corrupted.
FYI,I have taken control file backup and DB backup also 6 hour before the control file get corrupted,then there are quite lot of DB structure change, so Now how to recover my control file with the upto time DB state , since the backup was taken for control file 6 hour before the file get corrupted, now how do I revery the DB/control file, step by step with syntax as well.
I have been tasked with project on data migration... and am a complete and utter newbie on oracle. I am confused with the companies standard report format.
it says that I need to show the structure of any "control" tables I used
And also to provide "control" scripts to show that data was not corrupted during migration.
I have not come across this terminology of control tables and control scripts...
Oracle's Software Configuration Manager version 10.1.2.5 with forms version 10.1.2.3.0:
Is this what everybody is using to manage their forms development? If not, what are developers using for Forms 10g version control? I've installed this software. I'm using the Oracle XE database for this repository. At least for running through the tutorial to figure out how this is to work.
I have to say that I am frustrated that I cannot compare one version of a form to another version of the same fmb. I get a java null pointer exception. I have uninstalled the repository using RAU, then recreated it using the RAU. I'm using version control and defining a "large" repository type for more than 10 developers.
I am trying to control which tables are joined based on a null value, so I figured I could use the NVL2.
Here is the code as it stands
NVL2(TBL_TRANSACTIONS.EQUIPSVCSEQ, TBL_EQUIPANDSERVICES.LASTWORKORDERSEQ, TBL_TRANSACTIONS.WORKORDERSEQ)
= TBL_WORKORDERS.WORKORDERSEQ (+)
To explain, if first value is null, then TBL_EQUIPANDSERVICES.LastWOSeq = tbl_workorders.workorderseq (+), otherwise join the transaction.workorderseq.
When I try and execute this code, I'm given "ORA-01417: a table may be outer joined to at most one other table." I've double checked, TBL_Workorders is not joined with any other table in any select.
Now, the EquipandServices.workorderseq is joined (+) with another table.
I know this question must have been asked several time. I just want to know the many ways in which we can have a DB up and running even if we do not have any backup of control file not even the trace of the same.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am just looking to my control file that I have. I have managed to successfully get my control file to load data into the required tables but just for my learning I was trying to amend the when clause with an and condition but keep getting an error.
My code:
OPTIONS (DIRECT=TRUE, ERRORS=0, SKIP=1)
load data
infile 'A:/My Files/Feeds/20130211/data_summary_1_20131214.txt' "STR '

WHEN (RID <> 'RID')
fields terminated by "~|~" optionally enclosed by '"'
TRAILING NULLCOLS

RID,
S_TIMESTAMP timestamp 'DD-MON-RR HH:MI:SS.FF3 PM'

the above code works perfectly but if i change the following line:
WHEN (RID <> 'RID' AND 'S_TIMESTAMP' IS NOT NULL)than this gives me an error.
I am receiving errors when trying to load the control file. The errors are as follows:
SQL*Loader-500 Unable to open file (homework.ctl)
SQL*Loader-553 file not found
SQL*Loader-559 SYstem error: The system cannot find the file specified.
My control file is located directly in the C drive (C:\homework.ctl). The control file contains the following
LOAD DATA INFILE 'c:\country.dat'
APPEND INTO TABLE homework
fields terminated by ',' optionally encloded by '"'
(country, month, day)
WHEN (month='April')
On the command line, I am entering:
sqlldr system/password control=homework.ctl
In a control file, the code is as follows:
load data
infile 'C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxx\Desktop\abc.txt'
APPEND
PRESERVE BLANKS
INTO TABLE table1
[code]...
When I run the above control file in sqlldr, I'm getting the error as
Record 1: Rejected - Error on table table1, column column3.
ORA-01481: invalid number format model
In the table the column3 data type is NUMBER(6,2).: The column size in table is 6 and position of column3 in control file is only 4. Also if possible let me know how the same data (send me 2 dummy records) which exactly works for the above control file especially for column3 where decimal number comes in the flat file.
For generating the flat file, for column3, i'm using LPAD(:value,4,0) in the select query column list.
How can we add another control file to DBOG database? I need to clarify all the steps during this process.
