Pointers On Control Scripts
Aug 8, 2009
I have been tasked with project on data migration... and am a complete and utter newbie on oracle. I am confused with the companies standard report format.
it says that I need to show the structure of any "control" tables I used
And also to provide "control" scripts to show that data was not corrupted during migration.
I have not come across this terminology of control tables and control scripts...

I am using OEM Grid control 10g for monitoring/reporting purposes and a bit new to OEM.I am able to generate database alerts sent via email say for DB_abc1 and also generate reports.I installed Oracle 10g agent on a another box and lets say with DB_abc2 running on it,and did not realise that there was a database control already installed on that box, so I
1.Uninstalled database control on DB_abc2 box.
2.Uninstalled Oracle 10g agent and re-installed it on DB_abc2 box.
2.Was able to configure the DB_abc2 database from OEM Grid control gui ie the dbsnmp user password and was able to connect to it.
But when I put in alert for things like ORA-XXXX errors I am not getting any emails, also when I put in database usage reports(to be sent via emails) the reports are not picking up any data, they are empty.
I checked the agent on the box in question and the heart beat is OK, and I manually uploaded using "emctl upload" and it is sucessful. The only alerts I am getting for DB_abc1 is the agent up/down thats it.
DB_abc1 is a 9208 database and DB_abc2 is 10201 database.

I need to install the new Oracle Grid on a new virtual machine. Currently the new Grid VM server has a different name and IP. After it is setup and tested it will eventually take the place of the old production server using its original IP and name. If I install the new Grid now on this new VM with different name and IP address would I have to reinstall the agents on each of the target database servers?

Oracle's Software Configuration Manager version 10.1.2.5 with forms version 10.1.2.3.0:
Is this what everybody is using to manage their forms development? If not, what are developers using for Forms 10g version control? I've installed this software. I'm using the Oracle XE database for this repository. At least for running through the tutorial to figure out how this is to work.
I have to say that I am frustrated that I cannot compare one version of a form to another version of the same fmb. I get a java null pointer exception. I have uninstalled the repository using RAU, then recreated it using the RAU. I'm using version control and defining a "large" repository type for more than 10 developers.

I am trying to control which tables are joined based on a null value, so I figured I could use the NVL2.
Here is the code as it stands
NVL2(TBL_TRANSACTIONS.EQUIPSVCSEQ, TBL_EQUIPANDSERVICES.LASTWORKORDERSEQ, TBL_TRANSACTIONS.WORKORDERSEQ)
= TBL_WORKORDERS.WORKORDERSEQ (+)
To explain, if first value is null, then TBL_EQUIPANDSERVICES.LastWOSeq = tbl_workorders.workorderseq (+), otherwise join the transaction.workorderseq.
When I try and execute this code, I'm given "ORA-01417: a table may be outer joined to at most one other table." I've double checked, TBL_Workorders is not joined with any other table in any select.
Now, the EquipandServices.workorderseq is joined (+) with another table.

I am just looking to my control file that I have. I have managed to successfully get my control file to load data into the required tables but just for my learning I was trying to amend the when clause with an and condition but keep getting an error.
My code:
OPTIONS (DIRECT=TRUE, ERRORS=0, SKIP=1)
load data
infile 'A:/My Files/Feeds/20130211/data_summary_1_20131214.txt' "STR '
'"
APPEND
into table I_DATA_1
WHEN (RID <> 'RID')
fields terminated by "~|~" optionally enclosed by '"'
TRAILING NULLCOLS
(
RID,
S_TIMESTAMP timestamp 'DD-MON-RR HH:MI:SS.FF3 PM'
)
the above code works perfectly but if i change the following line:
WHEN (RID <> 'RID' AND 'S_TIMESTAMP' IS NOT NULL)than this gives me an error.

In a control file, the code is as follows:
load data
infile 'C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxx\Desktop\abc.txt'
APPEND
PRESERVE BLANKS
INTO TABLE table1
[code]...
When I run the above control file in sqlldr, I'm getting the error as
Record 1: Rejected - Error on table table1, column column3.
ORA-01481: invalid number format model
In the table the column3 data type is NUMBER(6,2).: The column size in table is 6 and position of column3 in control file is only 4. Also if possible let me know how the same data (send me 2 dummy records) which exactly works for the above control file especially for column3 where decimal number comes in the flat file.
For generating the flat file, for column3, i'm using LPAD(:value,4,0) in the select query column list.

Is there any way to control the timeout before connecting via dblink. the idea is to test the dblink before calling functions over it, the problem it when i try 'select 1 from dual@dblink' in case if the remote server is down it takes too long time 5-7 min. which causing hang up the session,
So is there any parameter to reduce the waiting time say after 3 sec stop and return the timeout exception.I try the SQLNET.INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT parameter but not working, also try the tnsping but it alse take long time when the server down.
the database version is 10gr2.

I have setup of two node (prod-db1, prod-db2) clustered database 11gR2 on windows 2008 R2 server. Everything is working fine at this setup.
My question is: Is there a way to make the Enterprise manager Database control run and be available at both the nodes independently. What I see that even at node 2 (which is prod-db2) the EM-DBControl is (https://prod-db1:1158/em) - which means the agent is running at node 1 (prod-db1) only.
My question is that how to make the EM-DBControl also run separately at prod-db2. My idea is to make the high availability of EM-DBControl (in case Prod-db1 machine is down).

I have a problem with my control file [URL].........
What I did, I have a duplicate of the database with the invalid control file, let's call it DUMDB. I am using my control file and no recovery-catalog-db.
I recreated the control file. Now everything is working fine, new backups can be taken, restores can be made. I just need to restore a backup tagged with "LASTDEV". The control file for this backup is the invalid one. So I need a restore WITHOUT restoring the control file.

I am trying to simulate a damage in my control files
$ORACLE_BASE/oradata/orcl/control01.ctl and $ORACLE_BASE/flash_recovery_area/orcl/control02.ctl
So I moved these files to another folder different of origin with the database online (in linux, I tried to do it in win7, but not works)!
And for my surprise the DML and DDL commands still working! The Oracle docs said:
QUOTE If any of the control files become unavailable during database operation, the instance becomes inoperable and should be aborted.
[URL] ....
What " the instance becomes inoperable" in Oracle Docs means?

the problem we are facing is that we are having some problems with names in a filed which are not letters but strange symbols inserted by a webservice which by the way has been corrected, but we have the discrepancy on out DB, so I've decided to write a PL/SQL procedure to correct them.
Here is the example of an incorrect record.
4047254| STEVE; ROVINSON (THE INCORRECT SYMBOL IS CHR(32), I do not know why the forum doesn't show it)
So, if you look there's a symbol that is not interpreted by the DB and my original idea was to extract them and correct then with another procedure. I have originally wrote a procedure with the logic if there's a symbol that is not beween currect letters (from A to Z including semicolon (;)) extract them and that's it. So, the big question is, How I transfer the control from the second loop to the cursor loop in order to analice the next record.
here is the code which hasn't been completed yet.
DECLARE
CURSOR get_nombre IS
SELECT CNTA_NOM_ABRV
FROM CUENTA;
[code]...

My management is asking me to find the best way to migrate our 3.3 TB data warehouse to a new server. I currently use RMAN to back up the database. This is done offline on Sundays, and it takes about 9 hours, compressed backups to disk. Archived log backups are done online, not in conjuction with the db backup.
I have read a number of documents detailing step to use OEM Db Control (aka dbconsole) to clone the database to the new server.
I have a few questions:
1. I need to clone the Oracle SW first, as our current install has patches, so it should take less time.
2. Do you think just restoring from the last RMAN backup and doing recovery would be faster than cloning?
3. On the new server, I have assumed that the root user (not me) would have to pre-create the OFA structure, e.g.; we have some mount points like /f01/oracle/DBNAME or /g01/oracle/DBNAME. I cannot imagine that the Db control Gui or Rman could create that structure on the target server. Is that correct?
4. There seems to be an attitude in my shop that the storage array mount points and OFA would not have to be identical on the target server. Any opinions?
Back in 1995, I successfully manually cloned a database to a new server in an HP environment, but it was only about 70G!!

I'd like to implement a treeview control with checkboxes in every node using Microsoft TreeView Control 6.0 in Forms 6i. I already did the following steps:
1. Download and register OCX (regsvr32 C:windowssystem32comctl32.ocx)
2. Draw OCX control on form.
3. Right click on OCX control and Insert Object "Microsoft TreeView Control 6.0"
4. Import OLE Library Interfaces "MSComctlLib.TreeCtrl.2"
5. Set Data Block Single Record to YES
6. Set OLE Class of Listview control to "MSComctlLib.TreeCtrl.2"
7. Rename treeview control to "ACX_TREE" and Data Block to "BLK_CONTROLS"
Now I need to populate the treeview adding code to the "WHEN_NEW_FORM_INSTANCE" Trigger, but I don't see how. how to do this and/or a place where I can find a working example?
