View 1 RepliesI have installed oracle 11g standard edition one and created both primary and standby database. now i want to know how to switch(convert) primary database to standby database.
View 8 Replies View Relatedits possible to have multiple LGWR processes for a single database.If its possible how does the multiple processes write from redo log buffer to online redo log file.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a database started using pfile and spfile parameter shows NULL from command prompt as below:
******************************************************************
Connected to:
Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production
With the Partitioning, OLAP and Data Mining options
SQL> show parameter spfile
NAME TYPE VALUE
------------------------------------ ----------- ------------------------------
spfile string
SQL>
*****************************************************************
Now when I want to change/switch database to start using SPFILE, can I do it with out restarting (shutdown and startup)the database.
Is it one alert log per instance or one per database? My guess would be per instance, but I have some documentation that indicates per database.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running Oracle XE . This database collects information about server statistics in my organization ( memory usage, threads running, etc). Now , I need to send alert/ notification emails if the certain thresholds are crossed by server ( ex: if number of threads increase more than 100, send an alert email).
One way to do this is to write stored procedures and schedule them to run every hour and send alert email if conditions are met.
But what I want to do is to use some sort of rule engine where I can specify the rules/conditions which have to be true for alerts to be sent. The reason I want this approach is so that every time there is a new rule, I do not have to write a new stored procedure and I can just specify the condition in the rule engine . So are there any Rule Engines out there that I can use (preferably open source and free to use)?
Redo log information can be transmitted in one of two ways from the primary database to the standby database: either by ARCH or LGWR.
1. when ARCH involves
2. when LGWR involves
FAL_Client = (Should i enter net service name or Db name or service_name
FAL_Server = Should i enter net service name or Db name or service_name )
FAL_CLIENT='whichone'
[code]...
We had an issue last week were we had a session with a very basic SQL query lock up the database, spiking the CPU at 100%. When you would kill the session, the lock would just jump to another session and so on. We finally had to restart the database since our clients were being kicked out. After the restart of the database, the LGWR ended up locking and held the CPU between 85-95%. The archive logs were switching every 5 minutes, when normally it would be every 45min. We spoke with Oracle Support, but they just ended up brushing the issue off and saying it was a hardware issue and were not able to provide any kind of backing to that.

I have few queries regarding standby database.
1)On primary Database Standby Redo log is required for switchover and on standby database Standby Redo log is required for
--Real time Apply
--Maximum protection or Maximum availability
Am I correct?
2)My database is in Maximum Performance mode. I set up following entry on init.ora:
LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2='service=standby LGWR ASYNC'. My question is do I need to have STANDBY Redo log file on standby database in order to use LGWR transport (LGWR ASYNC)mode from primary? Without Standby redo log on standby database can it transport redo data from primary to standby using LGWR transport mode (LGWR ASYNC)?
3)I have changed from the "ARCH" attribute to "LGWR" attribute of the LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n initialization parameter. But I have not changed the protection mode. I would like to know whether is there any impact in the behavior of the database, if we do not change the mode from "MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE" to "MAXIMUM AVAILABILITY"?
In statspack I find a lot of wait events "ARCH wait on SENDREQ". The database is configured with the LGWR ASYNC attribute. In the documentation I can read that the "ARCH wait"-events may happen in case the database is configured with the ARCH attribute.How is it possible I get these "ARCH wait"-envents and do these wait events have any effect on the "on line" performance of the database? Is it possible that a user that saves data in the database has to wait for thest "ARCH wait"-events?

I am on H1 visa and working as chemical engineer...but I am bored of this job... I wanted to switch to IT and particularly oracle dba..
How much is the risk for me as I am coming from non computer science background..there are various IT consulting companies who can provide training and do h1 transfer......currently (year 2010) the market for oracle is booming a lot...so I was thinking what can go wrong if I do this switch.
What are the differences of;
1. ALTER SYSTEM SWITCH LOGFILE;
2. ALTER SYSTEM ARCHIVE LOG ALL;
3. ALTER SYSTEM ARCHIVE LOG CURRENT;
I read Oracle's document but still didn't understand the difference in real life-use.
If you were writing a hotbackup script, which would you use at the end of datafile copy?
I recently started working with legacy code and noticed that some huge tables (5 years worth of data, don't have more details on me right now but can post later if needed) are partitioned based on time sequence number column while majority of queries are done based on time (different column). Queries performance is degrading and I'd like to try to modify partitioning and run some tests to evaluate performance improvement.
My only concern is with so much live data I have to come up with solution on how to switch partitioning with the least impact on applications running 24 x 7. Something you have done in the same situation and it worked?

There is a disk group named +FRA which has only 1 disk (call it disk 0 for later references).
+FRA disk group is in type of EXTERNAL redundancy
I'd like to add another disk to +FRA disk group and copy all files stored in disk 0 to the new disk (call it disk 1 for ex.), then take off disk 0 (not use for +FRA disk group any more).
Expected result: there is only one disk 1 left in the +FRA disk group, with all the data from disk 0 and keep their original file names
I have seen in many RMAN backup scripts that a manual log switching is performed in first line of the script? What is it purpose, just to write changes needed to reconstruct the DML/DDL statements to online redo logfiles and start the archiving process if db is running in archive log mode?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI configure exadata + 2 switch between application server and and exadata. And we have problem to connect to switch and load balancing between Ethernet switch to exadata.
We might end up that is 'How about remove ethernet switch and directly connect to exadata?' I don't know which idea comes up with Ethernet gigabit switch between application server and exadata, exadata might be gigabit.
but from application server to ethernet switch is still 100M network, it is only fast in that load, other load is still 100m , it might useless. and about load balancing, exadata is RAC cluster node, exadata is doing load balancing, why we want another load balancing feature of ethernet switch?
Is it good idea to have dual switch between application server and exadata? exadata iti is what might be pro and con of this setting? exadata is handled by oracle support team, but dual switch is only cared by application operation team, so if something wrong with switch, nobody except operation team can manage .
Just wanted to know if I do
ALTER SYSTEM ARCHIVE LOG CURRENT;
Then it archives the current redo and switches to next redo.
If again switching is done, then just wanted to know if redo is archived when its size is less than log_buffer, then is it resumed when it is switched into next time or after archiving it creates a empty redo file and then use it?
how can i monitor the instance status and log switch summary.

i want one query which return minute between two times which is in this format: 12:00:00 and 06:00:00
so in this it should return 360 minutes.
is there a prebuilt function that will round say the time of a sysdate up or down 5 mins? so i entered 5:32pm i would want it to round it down to 5:30pm
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two columns which I need to add together then devide by 60 in order to display that time in minutes. the problem I am facing is that at times I get numbers above 60 and my client doesn't want to see numbers above 60.
i.e (col1 + col 2)/60 = 34.87
what I need to do is make sure that when the number reaches 60 it moves on to 35.
I need below proc like...
procedure p1
(
i_time_min number -- minutes to be substracted from timestamp
)
is
v_end_timeinstamp timestamp(6);
begin
[code]....
The problem with above procedure is passing parameter is in minutes and i need to substract the same from sys_extract_utc(current_timestamp) and store result in v_end_timeinstamp in timestamp format only... substracting directly will reduce the days and not the minutes.
How to count records per every 3 minutes ? we don't want SPs to get answer. Instead of we want single query to get this output.
The sample data has been enclosed with it.
I have a date in_sdate as In parameter defaulted to sysdate. Basing on this in_Sdate I calculate my start and end dates as:
v_sdate TRUNC (in_sdate, 'MI') - 15 / 1440 ;
v_edate := TRUNC (in_sdate, 'MI');
My procedure is run for every 15 minutes. Now suppose if I am running for old dat, then I should get the difference of dates by taking
v_old_Date := v_edate - in_Sdate;
Divide this by 15 , round that value and loop to run the procedure for that n times. My doubt is when I am saying
v_old_date := v_edate - in_sdate ; I am getting expression is of wrong type. How can I take the difference of the dates and get the minutes from that ?
in our database 10.0.2.4 with RAC archive log generated each 4 min , did this increase the performance of database and how i can fix it
