I would like to UPDATE the columns p1 and p2 of my table student (studentid:pk,name,p1,p2,...) for a given studentid.and I have a when-button-pressed trigger with this
UPDATE student
SET student.p1=:validation.proj1,
student.p2=:validation.proj2
where UPPER(student.studentid)=UPPER(:validation.studentid);commit_form;
when I run my form with a correct studentid, I got this error: FRM-40508: ORACLE error: UNABLE to INSERT record
but it is cworking correctly in sqlplus; and I have all priveligies.

I have a base table (Table A) block with multiple records displayed. I need to track audits to this underlying table in the following way:
If user updates a field in the block I want the pre-changed record's audit fields to be set and I need to create a copy of the record with the changed values. Basically any changes will result in the record being logically deleted, and a copy record created with the newly changed values.
Tried to implement in the block's pre-update trigger which will call a package to directly update Table A then Insert into Table A, then requery the block. Is there a clean and efficient way to do this?

i want to create a trigger that will update a table when there is an insert or update.i can't across this error that i don't even know what it means "table %s.%s is mutating, trigger/function may not see it".
*Cause: A trigger (or a user defined plsql function that is referenced in this statement) attempted to look at (or modify) a table that was in the middle of being modified by the statement which fired it.
*Action: Rewrite the trigger (or function) so it does not read that table.

Oracle 11gI have a large table of 125 million records - t3_universe. This table never gets updated or altered once loaded, but holds data that we receive from a lead company. I need to select records from this large table that fit certain demographic criteria and insert those into a smaller table - T3_Leads - that will be updated with regard to when the lead is mailed and for other relevant information. select records from this 125 million record table to insert into the smaller table.
I have tried a variety of things - views, materialized views, direct insert into smaller table...I think I am probably missing other approaches. My current attempt has been to create a View using the query that selects the records as shown below. Then use a second query that inserts into T3_Leads from this View V_Market. This is very slow. Can I just use an Insert Into T3_Leads with this query - it did not seem to work with the WITH clause? My Index on the large table is t3_universe_composite and includes zip_code, address_key, household_key.

I am trying to update columns of Table A with the columns of Table B. Both these tables have 60,000 rows each. I tried this operation using following 2 queries:
Query 1
Update TableA A
set
(A.col1,A.col2,A.col3)=(select B.col1,B.col2,B.col3
from TableB
where A.CODE=B.CODE)
Query 2
Update TableA A
set
(A.col1,A.col2,A.col3)=(select B.col1,B.col2,B.col3
from TableB
where A.CODE=B.CODE)
where exists
A.code = (select B.code
from TableB B
where A.code=B.code)
When i execute these two above queries, it keeps executing indefinitely.

writing a trigger body. My requirement is i need to insert a new record in a task table when ever a new record is inserted into employee table.Here in the trigger i need to select the name of the employee in the last inserted row in employee table and insert the name in task table.I tried to write the code as below
insert into task(name, date, type) values ((select name from employee where emp_id=(select max(emp_id) from employee), sysdate, 'document'));
When i am trying to insert record using trigger, it is taking last but one record from the employee table.

if there is any inbuilt function or way to find a row in the table that is having value for maximum number of columns.
For example, the table A has 5 columns
(c1,c2,c3,c4,c5) and it has 3 records(r1,r2,r3)
and
r1 has values only for c1,c2
r2 has values only for c1,c2,c3,c4
r3 has values only for c1
so I should get the result as "r3 has values for 4 columns & it is not having value for column c5".

I have task. I am using oracle forms 6i. I want to import excel data to oracle forms(its common task using ole2 package). But this time I want to map the columns i.e my database table having 5 columns. and the excel file is having 2 or 3 columns then i suppose to map those columns and accordingly insert it to my table.
So far i have import column heading of excel to oracle forms, then i've provide list item for mapping each column. so that user can map excel column to database columns. Now I am confuse how to write the code so that selected columns should get inserted into database.

I have table with columns id, name, location, address, plan. in those columns i need to insert records form excel. user having a excel with 3 columns col1, col2, col3. on the form i've fetch column headers of excel and in front of that i've provide database column list , so user can match excel column with database column. e.g.
COL1 --> list value of database column

COL3 -->list value of database column
Once user map those column i want to insert those values into my database table (table with columns id, name, location, address, plan). and i am confuse about this code.

i have 2 identical tables....the trick is with regards to one column say column A,the first table TableA is constantly having data inserted and data updated, what im trying to do is create a before insert or update trigger that looks at column A and if column A=20 it changes this to 5 and inserts this into the tableB, everything else with the exception of Column A will be the same:-
this trigger i have done works but doesnt change the value of column A (INPUT_NADI) as i dont know how to do this:-

I have two table and trying to update tableA with data from tableB but gives an error. My TableA has columns - colA,colB,colC,colX and table B has columns - colA,colB,colX. Sample data looks like this:
tableA:
XXYY, local,3/19,48
XXYY,ixc,3/19,24
XXYYlocal,3/20,48
XXYY,local,3/21,48
Table B:
XXYY,local,48
XXYY,ixc,24
PPQQ,local,72
this is the query I wrote
update tableA a
set (a.colX)=(select (b.colX) from tableB b where a.colA=b.colA and a.colB=b.colB);
When i run it gives this error:single row subquery returns more than one row.
tableB has only 1 value for colX for each colA,colB record but tableA has mutiple colA and colB repeated but for all of thsoe in table A i want to update the tableB.colX value for matching colA and colB.

My scenario is I need to insert into History table when a record is been updated into a tabular form(insert the updated record along with the additional columns Action_by,Action_type(Like Update or delete) and Action Date Into History table i.e History table contains all the records as the main table which is been visible in tabular form along with these additional columns ...Action_by,action_type and action_date.
So now i dont want to create a befor/after update trigger on base table rather i would like to create a generic procedure which will insert the updated record into history table taking the page alias and pade ID as the parameters(GENERIC procedure is nothing but whcih applies to all the tabular forms(Tables) contained int he application ).

I need to take a snapshot of a table before insert or update happens to that table.... in oracle 10g. I am reading the MV docs from oracle and below link..

how MV should be written for this and how to schedule it in dbms_jobs for auto refresh?
assuming that t1 is the table where DML operation are goin to happen so before any insert or update, snapshot has to be taken, and I am assuming that to do this it would look something like this?

my goal is finding the first free ticket ( not sold ) in the ticket table and insert buyer information of that ticket in customer_ticket table. at last I will mark that ticket as a sold one in ticket table with update.
Problem is that the first transaction locks the the first row in ticket table and the second transaction running the same query goes to wait untill the first transaction commit or rollback. However when first transaction finish successfully, second transaction select duplicate id from ticket table that was selected by the first transaction!
I tried to solve problem with "skip locked" and "nowait" options with select for update, but they didn't work.

I have After insert or update trigger on Table B. This will update AID column on Table B.

So I wrote the trigger on Table A as below

I am calling an after insert Trigger on table1.
In the trigger I am calling a procedure that returns an error if there is any error returned from procedure. I have to update the table table1's column error_desc (for the same new inserted record for which the trigger was called) with the error received by OUT parameter of procedure called in trigger. I have to update the same record on whose insert this trigger was called.

I've a one history table in which I'm putting approval history data.
For any transaction id you may have more than one record with approval status APPROVED,REJECTED,ERRORED,OVERLIMIT etc
Another program selects records from this table by passing transaction_id. For transaction id, it needs to check the most recent approved record exist or not ? If it's there then updating the record by adding comments to comments field of the same record and then delete all other records for the same transaction id.
If it does not exist then delete all other records and create one with approved status?
What's the simple and best approach to do this (sql or pl/sql)?

trying to update a column in a table which has 3 columns of 16million rows from column in another table which has 1million rows, there is no relationship between the 2 tables.
Table A has 3 columns of 16million rows, the first two columns have 16million ID numbers, the 3rd colunm is currently NULL.
Table B has 1million Numbers, i need to somehow update column 3 in table A using the numbers in table B, it doesnt how many times each of the 1 million numbers are used but i dont want it to just update every row to the same value.

I got this error: frm-41051: You can not update this record
While i searched about this error on net,
I did everything..my block property is yes for INSERT_ALLOWED and UPDATE_ALLOWED.
By programatically I didn't set property false for that block.i check each and every item property for that block...its also yes for INSERT_ALLOWED and update_allowed..

I have a form with a block at header level. Once you save your header, there is a second block at line level. I want to be able to enter only one record at header level and line-level.
Also if you search on an instance which already has a record at line-level then i want the insert button to be greyed out.
Similarly once you create your first record at line-level the Insert button should be greyed out.

I have this error. To put it simply I have two blocks.
Block1 contains two drop down list with PL/SQL statements for queries.
Block2 contains tabular form created from block wizard (I tried already in manual)
that will catch the result in Block1 queries.
Now I have a button with a trigger when-button-pressed that contains
BEGIN
INSERT INTO dummy1
VALUES ('hello',1,2,3);
COMMIT;
END;
My goal is to add into dummy1 values from :block2.item_name1, :block2.item_name2, :block2.item_name3 but to put it simply I tried these values but I received the same error.
When I run it and first things first click the button, the values will be added into dummy1 table but when I execute the block1 - dropdown list queries and try to press the button. I received the error.
