Data Guard :: Move BLOB Images In DB To BFILE To Reduce Time And Size Of Backup?
Jan 22, 2012
We are planning to move BLOB images in our DB to BFILE to reduce the time and size of backup.
So when we have a physical dataguard setup, can we configure data guard to copy the OS level BFILE's to the DR site?

We will create a new instance in our production server, but this time, part of it's table structure has a BLOB data type (re: <column name> blob(3000)). It's our first time to handle this kind of Oracle data type. What would be my estimate size for it's default tablespace?

i have to update the blob column in a table with new image.
we have a table with 10 columns in which one column is 'image' as BLOB data type, and one more column with "image_name " and has more than 1000 rows.
I have a 300 images which I need to update in "image" column .
I need to match the given images name with "image_name" column, if row is present in the table than update the "image" column with the given image.
I search and found almost same code to insert the image in new table with a procedure, I mean code is to call the procedure, ( by passing image name and image directory)
Is there any way that we will check all the image given in the directory, if that image_name is present in the table then update the image provide me a sample code for this

We have oracle 9i database named A with 2 schema A1 and A2.User enters data at A1 schema and the incremental data moved to A2 schema after some verfications performed by some scheduled job on A1 schema.
we want to move this incremental data to B1 schema of another oracle 9i database B at the real time when data gets entered to A2 schema of A oracle 9i database. We have access to A2 schema of A database and B1 schema of B database.way to do it or best practice to do this activity or if there is any third party tool or any available oracle utility to perform it?
Note: A2 schema of A database and B1 schema of B database has one to one mapping.We want to avoid using trigger on A2 schema, how data gets populated from A1 to A2 schema .

i got a table and it had 5000 rows of data...ive deleted around 2000 to decrease the db size but i have no success. My harddrive is still showing the same size with no increase in mb.
I've looked at shrink etc methods but some are not compatible with 8i.
I take it the db is still reserving that those deleted rows thinking it may be used again which is the reason for no increase in space.

One of our solaris machines is running Oracle 8.0.3
A table reached the 2 Gb size and oracle failed due to the operating system file size limitation.
The information in the table is not relevant and can be deleted, but the table contains a lot of indexes.
I would like to know the best procedure to delete the information and reduce the size of the file.

With 11gr2, by default, on STARTUP, the standby database is open
-> in READ ONLY mode
-> with Intended State: APPLY-ON
so the ACTIVE DATAGUARD option is in use ....
is there a way to deactivate REAL TIME QUERY permanently, so whether on STARTUP or STARTUP MOUNT, the standby stay only mounted with Intended State: APPLY-ON
The only way i found is to do the following :
SQL> startup
DGMGRL> edit database 'PHNXENT' set state='APPLY-OFF';
then
SQL> startup mount
DGMGRL> edit database 'PHNXENT' set state='APPLY-ON';

I have requested the Infrastructure DBA to move a table with size 126GB(as shown in the stats/size tab in TOAD) from one tablespace to another.This is free the huge space in the first tablespace which i wanted to use for creating another table.
But when the table is moved to another tablespace, surprisingly for me, i saw that the sizeof the table has come down to 8 GB from 126 GB.Point to be noted is that everyday there are physical deletes happening on the table.

RDBMS Version:11.2.0.3
Both source and Target DBs are in Grid Infrastructure version : 11.2.0.3
Planning to Migrate RHEL 5.4 to Solaris 10
Currently we have 3 schemas with a combined size of 4 Terabyte in 11.2.0.3 RAC ASM in RHEL 5.4. All these 3 schemas share one tablespace which has around 150 datafiles.
We want to move these 3 schemas to a Solaris RAC DB with ASM.
If we use Transportable tablespace , should there be any down time for Target DB ?

when trying to calculate the occupied space for a table, I'm using DBA_SEGMENTS, which works fine as long as the table does not have a BLOB column.
As far as I can tell, the size of the BLOB data is stored with the SEGMENT_TYPE = 'LOBSEGMENT', but I cannot find a view that tells me which DBA_SEGMENT row belongs to the BLOB column in the table I'm checking.
To give you an example:
select sum(BYTES)
from DBA_SEGMENTS
where owner = user
and segment_name = 'MY_TABLE'
group by SEGMENT_NAME
returns 262144
running:
SELECT sum(length(blob_column))
FROM my_table
returns 821333
There are entries in DBA_SEGMENTS for my user with the type LOBSEGMENT, but I cannot find a way to map the correct DBA_SEGMENTS row to the table I am checking.
I'm using Oracle 10.2.0.3.0 on Redhat

I have following query in Dataguard ..
If I want to take Rman archive log backup with delete input command , how the archive logs will be copied to standby database
For eg
I am taking archive backup as
RMAN>backup archivelog all delete input;
here consider few archives are not copied to standby database (due to nw issue) then how standby will receives these missing archives as those are deleted by rman backup at primary side.
I am not getting any document related to above query.
