Session Restriction - Limit Number Of Open Application Actions By Some Os User?
Sep 17, 2013
,in 11g,is there a way I could limit the number of open application actions by some os user ?We have an application where users are executing the same thing while the last is not yet finished,so we have several same things runninng at the same time executed by the same user.
Can we restrict that somehow through the database or that needs to be done through application?

I have an urgent requirement to kill an existing session if a new session starts for the same user. I have been reading lot of blogs and posts on the above topic, but could clearly tell me how to do it.
I thought of putting a process in 101 page when login button is pressed to catch this and kill the old session.

I have a page which downloads statspack reports from different servers and stores them in APEX. As well as this it also display a summary of data (top 5 wait events & load profile info) when hovering an icon: [URL]... The chart will refresh itself and display the data based on the value of P10_SNAPVAL (storing the PK value). The report does not do as I expect it to do (it isn't refreshing the table). I have the following:
PL/SQL Dynamic Content region making the report Dynamic Action- Event: Change- Item: P10_SNAPVAL- Action: Refresh- Affected Element: Region - Load Profile (the PL/SQL Dynamic Content)- Event scope:
I've tried both bind & live The value of P10_SNAPVAL is changed whenever the user hovers a penguin icon (this works because the chart works).
$('img[name=summary]').mouseover(function() {

On a tabular form I have 50 columns each an input box , (basically 50 weeks of the year)
in these boxes I want to make them numbers only and max length 2
currently I have in the ELEMENT ATTRIBUTES for each column
OnFocus="javascript:this.maxLength=2"; onKeyPress="return numbersonly(this,event)";
( I have a function called numbers only in page 0 )
what I would like to do , to make it more maintainable is to remove all the calls in the element attributes of each column
and put it in 2 dynamic actions how would I go about this ?
I have tried using jquery selector of input:text to call javascript code on both events , Get focus and Key Press for every text box but its not working .

The following link states
Quote:
SESSIONS_PER_USER
Each instance maintains its own SESSIONS_PER_USER count. If SESSIONS_PER_USER is set to 1 for a user, the user can log on to the database more than once as long as each connection is from a different instance.
[URL].....
Of course the following is not working even when resource_limit is TRUE
ALTER PROFILE DEFAULT LIMIT SESSIONS_PER_USER 2;
How can I restrict a user to have limited sessions say 2 sessions across 4 node cluster? Presently I am checking the sessions logged in using sql+ and no connection pooling of front end etc. is involved.

I'm looking for the information on:
•Limit of number of sub programs in a package.
•Limit of number of lines in a sub-program.
•Limit of number of statements in a sub-program.
I searched on net and found below useful information.
The size limit for PL/SQL stored database objects such as subprograms, triggers, and packages is the size of the Descriptive Intermediate Attributed Notation for Ada (DIANA) code in the shared pool in bytes. The Linux and UNIX limit on the size of the flattened DIANA/code size is 64K but the limit might be 32K on desktop platforms.
The most closely related number that a user can access is the PARSED_SIZE in the static data dictionary view *_OBJECT_SIZE. That gives the size of the DIANA in bytes as stored in the SYS.IDL_xxx$ tables. This is not the size in the shared pool. The size of the DIANA part of PL/SQL code (used during compilation) is significantly larger in the shared pool than it is in the system table.
is there any recommendation on limit of number of subprograms should exist in a package exist, If there is any guidelines/recommendation exist for these.

I get following error

ORA-06550: line 16385, column 13:

But instead of pl/sql block if i write the insert statements as sql file and execute it produces no error
Does it mean pl/sql has limit on number of lines of code to 16385?

Updated to Add: In a last ditch search, I found my answer with ROWNUM <= 1 in the Where clause. It works and I can go from there with what I want to do.
I have a website that pulls similar information from multiple queries using a Union-based query. I want to only pull 1 record from one section, two from another, and 5 from the third. I've so far found LIMIT but haven't been able to get it to work in that way. Is it possible to limit each query in the union as I am looking to do?
The query is:
SELECTc.priority, c.startDate, p.headline, p.newsID, p.kicker, p.webPath, p.makePopup, p.thumbnail, p.shortDesc, p.storyType, d.filePath
FROM (so_news p LEFT OUTER JOIN so_news_deptLevel c ON p.newsID = c.newsID) LEFT OUTER JOIN so_departments d ON d.deptID = c.deptID
WHERE p.storyType = 'alert' AND c.display = 'yes' AND c.startDate <= sysDate AND c.endDate >= sysDate
UNION All
SELECTc.priority, c.startDate, p.headline, p.newsID, p.kicker, p.webPath, p.makePopup, p.thumbnail, p.shortDesc, p.storyType, d.filePath
[code]....

2. I want to limit number of detail records for every parent record to 8. How can I accomplish this?
3. I have approval flags at both master and detail. If the user tries to approve the master with some/all detail records unapproved, system should display error message and make the user approve the detail before approving the master.

How can I find out a user session/connection details like ( his last connection time, his activity etc)
Here is the issue, a old dba_user_id who physically no longer exists is not removed from the database. At some time, a session is opened under his user_id and some activity runs and closes the session. So, checked scheduled jobs under him and disabled them. But not sure whether the scheduled jobs are creating a session under his user_id or some thing else.
I checked in v$session, but since I am not sure at what time his session opens, so I am not able to get his session details.

I have a contract that has several categories with payments in each one. If there is a payment=0, then a category is considered closed. The contract is considered closed when all categories are closed.
Date Category Payments
01/01/07 1 5
01/01/07 2 7.5
01/01/07 3 6
05/01/07 2 0
09/01/07 1 0
11/01/07 3 0
(date here is in mm/dd/yy)
I need a SQL that will return the number of months within the year that contract was open. In the example above, the last category closed on 11/01, so the result should be 10. If the last line was not there, the contract would still be open in 2007 and the result should be 12.

I can get "CPU used by this session' value from v$sesstat. That is the value in centiseconds used by each session. How to convert the value into a percentage of total CPU resource ?
Or there are some other ways to gain the value. i.e. Percentage of Total CPU usage for each Oracle session.

I have a master-detail form which was getting close to the 100 items per page limit in Apex 4.0 which I then scaled back and got to work properly. I had thought that I could start adding more columns to the detail part of the form since 4.2 was supposed to have increased that limit. I am finding that this does not seem to be true at least in the case of this particular form. I tried increasing and started getting 404 errors when trying to save data--same symptom I had had with 4.0. I am back nearly to the same # of columns I started with--and nowhere near the 200 limit. Columns are month by month projection data that I had hoped to extend with the increased page item limit.
I missing something required to take advantage of larger page items limit? Do I need to use one of the new templates?

We have an application with database Oracle 10g.
I want to add a new validation to restrict concurrent user and/or session from a client. (we have almost 60 client firms using the software to enter daily trasnactions). All users from all clients are connecting to the database using a common functional ID.
What I did was:
1) Add a column 'user_logged_in' in the master table for client and update it as Y when user from that client logged on to the system,
2) Insert the application logon details (we can figure out the client details from this) into a global temp table,
3) Create a logoff trigger to update the 'user_logged_in'flag in client master table by using values from global temp table when session logged off and
4) Restrict the users from same client if the flag is 'Y'
But the problem in this case is logoff trigger will not be executed in case if the session got killed or terminated abnormally.

My question is can i kill the session once he confirms his work is done OR do i need to wait till the redologs are cleared.
