Way To Include New Warehouses / Products In Query

Feb 21, 2011

I have to do a number of database exercises and it's my very first time using SQL. I did all of them, except for one query.It's fairly simple, I need to find for every combination of warehouses (there are 5) and items (25) how many of each items I can stock in said warehouse until until it goes over the capacity. So for example warehouse 1 has a max of 300 pounds and item 1 weighs 1 pound, so I can stock 300 in it. Warehouse 1 and product 2...etc.

Every warehouse has a capacity in pounds and every item has a weight also in pounds. There are 3 tables between warehouse and items (warehouse---shipment---order----order details----items).

I managed to find every instance of warehouse_ID/item_ID/(capacity/weight)...but thats for the existing warehouses/item. If they added a new warehouse or product, I'd be screwed, as they wouldnt show up in my query...here's my query:

select Warehouse_ID, item_ID, (select round(capacity/weight,1) as maximum_capacity
from order_detail
join item using (item_ID)
join order using (Order_ID)
join shipment using (shipment_number)
join warehouse using (warehouse_ID)
group by warehouse_id, item_id
order by warehouse_ID

I keep trying to find a way to include possible new warehouses or products in my query, but I'm at a complete loss. I tried to right and left outer joins with no luck

The data is held on 3 tables: -

Running a query for one month is no problem at all, I just don't know how to create a cross tab style one.

SQL & PL/SQL :: How To Join Tables To Get All Sales IDs That Have At Least Two Products

Nov 18, 2010

Trick is that I've got 4 tables

Sale , sale_details, sales_message, message_text

Table:Sales
Sales_id

Table: Sales_product
Sales_id, sales_product_id

Table: Sales_message
Sales_id, sales_message_id, message_text_id

Table:Message_text,
Message_text_id, message_text

Thing is how can I join those tables to get all the sales ID's that have at least two products one of which has got any number of messages and the other one hasn't got ANY any messages. So another words one sale entity that has both products with messages and at lease one with no message. Something like this

Sales 1 ID 123
Product1 ID 1234 for sale ID 123
Product2 ID 4321 for sale ID 123
Sales_message ID 098 for product ID 1234 'blabla'
Sales_message ID 876 for product ID 1234 'albalb'
AND NO MESSAGES FOR PRODUCT 4321

This is what I want to get from DB.

To Modify Dbca Template To Include Two Control Files

Nov 14, 2012

I'm trying to modify my dbca template to include two control files. One on ASM +RECO and we we're thinking of adding the second one on the database filesystem $ORACLE_BASE/something/something Within the template there are references to controlfiles two places:

Initparameter:
<initParam name="control_files" value="("{ORACLE_BASE}/oradata/{DB_UNIQUE_NAME}/control01.ctl", "{ORACLE_BASE}/fast_recovery_area/{DB_UNIQUE_NAME}/control02.ctl")"/>

and

<StorageAttributes>
<ControlfileAttributes id="Controlfile">
<maxDatafiles>32767</maxDatafiles>
<maxLogfiles>1024</maxLogfiles>
<maxLogMembers>3</maxLogMembers>
<maxLogHistory>32767</maxLogHistory>
<maxInstances>8</maxInstances>
<image name="control01.ctl" filepath="{ORACLE_BASE}/oradata/{DB_UNIQUE_NAME}/"/>
<image name="control02.ctl" filepath="+RECO"/>
</ControlfileAttributes>

With this configuration there is only one controlfile created and that is on +RECO. What am I doing wrong and also should I add the second controlfile to +DATA instead of fielsystem $ORACLE_BASE?

The data stored in the table and xml file sharing a key field, but the xml contents are less than what in the table.I want to show only the data shared between the two queries, how can I do that?

e.g.:

143 | Tom | 9000

Getting Top-N Query To Work As Sub-select In Larger Query?

Mar 10, 2012

Is there a technique to getting a Top-N query to work as a sub-select in a larger query -or- is there another way to generate Top-N like results that works as a sub-select?

Background:

We have a large query that is being used to build an export from a legacy HR system to a new one. Amount the data needed in the export is the employees primary phone number.

The legacy HR system allows multiple phone numbers to be stored in a simple table structure:

SELECT emp_id, phone_type, phone_number
FROM employee_phones

emp_idphone_typephone_number
------- --------------- -------------------
46021CELL2222222222
46021HOME1111111111
46021WORK3333333333

The new HR system does allow for multiple phone numbers, however they need a primary phone number identified and stored with the employee master information. (Subsequent phone numbers get stored in alternate table.)

From a business perspective, we have decided that if they have a HOME phone in the legacy system that should be the primary in the new system, if no HOME phone, then WORK, if no WORK then CELL.

That can be represented as:

SELECT *
FROM employee_people_phones
WHERE emp_id = '46021'
ORDER BY decode(phone_type, 'HOME', 'a', 'WORK', 'b', 'CELL', 'c', 'z')

emp_idphone_typephone_number
------- --------------- -------------------
46021HOME1111111111
46021WORK2222222222
46021CELL3333333333

Or similarly with Top N concept:

SELECT *
FROM (SELECT *
FROM employee_people_phones
WHERE emp_id = '46021'
ORDER BY decode(phone_type, 'HOME', 'a', 'WORK', 'b', 'CELL', 'c', 'z')) results
WHERE ROWNUM = 1

emp_idphone_typephone_number
------- --------------- -------------------
46021HOME1111111111

Or really what I want in my export:

SELECT phone_number
FROM (SELECT phone_number
FROM employee_people_phones
WHERE emp_id = '46021'
ORDER BY decode(phone_type, 'HOME', 'a', 'WORK', 'b', 'CELL', 'c', 'z')) results
WHERE ROWNUM = 1

phone_number
-------------------
1111111111

However, when the Top-N query is added as a sub-select in a larger query using the employee id from the larger query (WHERE emp_id = export.emp_id), it fails saying that export.emp_id is not a valid id.

(SELECT phone_number
FROM (SELECT phone_number
FROM employee_people_phones
WHERE emp_id = export.emp_id
ORDER BY decode(phone_type, 'HOME', 'a', 'WORK', 'b', 'CELL', 'c', 'z')) results
WHERE ROWNUM = 1)

1.Any way around this? Is it possible to put a Top-N (with a WHERE clause using data from the main query) in a sub-select?

2.Any alternatives (other than Top-N) to delivering a ROWNUM=1 result with a custom ORDER BY statement?

Other Notes: Yes, we know we could do two queries in the data conversion first deliver the bulk data to the target table, and then update with the phone numbers. However, for multiple reasons, that is less than desirable.
