if you are using ShadowProtect to backup your Oracle databases. What are your experiences and the pros and cons in using ShadowProtect as the one and only backup/recovery tools for Oracle databases? Can the potential of ShadowProtect replaces the commonly use Oracle backup/recovery tools?
The reason why I raise this question is because my boss has the idea that ShadowProtect is THE best backup/recovery tools. Personally I don't think so, because there can be cases where we only need to recover the database and not the whole OS.
I have the task to migrate the total databases(Exact copy to be moved to another server).The current server is going for format.After I did the following steps I am getting the tablespaces(databases)-4 sizes same ,but I am facing issue like some default tablespaces i.e temp,system are not matching.
temp tablespace *************** current server - 4.0(approximately) Migrating server - 160 MB
System tablespace ***************** current server - 580 MB Migrating server - 220 MB
Also I checked the tables are also matching for the 4 databases.Also Provide the solution or method which is correct.

When we run a backup of a database [oracle7.3.4.5] using EBU [2.2.1.0.0] on Solaris 7, error message appears:
Statement processed. BFS in progress "1134684df1de4a" cancelled on 10-JUN-2011 11:05:34 BFS in progress "1134694df1de4a" cancelled on 10-JUN-2011 11:05:35
Ending backup to tape
This backup spawns archive sequence numbers 1731 to 1731 This backup comprises SCN 8725981 to 8725802 EBU-2003: Job 24267 failed due to an internal error on 10-JUN-2011 11:05:52 [ 7178 : brcdodbfil ] [cod]....
In EBU catalog, are registered 2 databases with the same name but different hosts.
I have cloned the database into another using DBMS_METADTA API (export the metadata in xml form and recreate it on destination). I need to synch these two periodically. I need to update the XML to synchronize the databases.
I have to migrate two different databases to oracle.i have made two Migration Repository for each to do the migration, migration is done.but i would like to know can it be done with one migration repository.if yes then with one is best way to do it.data of two databases is different but table and sp are 99% same.
How can we bring down the databases in oracle fail safe environment?
We have one database X in two servers windows A & B with oracle fail safe environment. What procedure should we fallow to bring down the database X.
Today I was strangling to bring down the database because database was automatically coming up once brought down the database. what procedure should we follow to bring down the database in OFS environment.
I am using Oracle database server and I want to show existing databases on that server. Are there any SQL plus command to list all databases there in the server?
I have 2 separate servers each with oracle database installed.I am trying to pull oracle logs from these 2 databases to my main linux server using perl DBI. On this linux server I have 1 dbipoll.pl script and 2 wrapper scripts that pass in parameters to dbipoll.pl.
Here is the sample wrapper script that I've used to call dbipoll.pl(separate script with different parameters for each databases used):
As you can see,the script should retrieve logs and write to oracledb1.log and update the countfile1 with the latest timestamp.The wrapper scripts are scheduled to run at 5mins interval.
The first wrapper script,which I've named as call_dbipoll1.sh runs fine. I am able to retrieve events and both oracledb1.log and countfile1 are successfully updated.
However,the second wrapper script,call_dbipoll2.sh is successful only for the first run. For subsequent runs,I've noticed that countfile2 does not get updated with the latest timestamp(ie. the file returns to blank) and oracledb2.log returns to blank as well. Therefore,am unable to pull new events then. Unable to determine what went wrong here..
Here is sample of my second wrapper script that tries to retrieve events from the 2nd database:
I want to upgrade all the Oracle 10g Release (10.2.0)master sites (bi-directional) databases to Oracle 11g Release (latest). In fact, we are using bi-directional oracle streams and snapshot replication, it means capture,propagate and apply process is running.
If we want to know the number of instances, number of RAC databases and whole total disk space used by oracle (not file system size),1. Any script can be ran from OEM grid control against all instances/databases? or2. we have a repository unix server which has all tnsnames of whole databases, any script we can run from there?
I have facing problem while taking backup on Windows 7 client of Oracle 11g R2 database. I have installed oracle 11gR2 for windows on windows 7 machine. I have created a directory like below in database.
On Database Server
SQL> create directory win_expdp_dir as 'd:expimp';
Directory created.
SQL> grant read, write on directory win_expdp_dir to lab;
Grant succeeded.
On Windows 7 machine (client machine)
D:appproduct11.2.0client_1BIN>expdp lab/lab@wbdata.wbh-db11g DIRECTORY=win_expdp_dir DUMPFILE=lab.dmp LOGFILE=lab.log Export: Release 11.2.0.1.0 - Production on Mon May 2 12:51:44 2011 Copyright (c) 1982, 2009, Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved. Connected to: Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - Production With the Partitioning, OLAP, Data Mining and Real Application Testing options ORA-39002: invalid operation ORA-39070: Unable to open the log file.
I have give all sharing rights on d:expimp directory. My main question is why i'm getting this error. Is there any thing missing in setup. how to take export on windows 7 client.
I've read a lot about the different types of backup available with Oracle (hot and cold backup). However, I was thinking of a different way of performing this task. I'm currently using Windows Server 2008 R2 and Oracle 11g Standard Edition. I'd like to schedule an entire backup of my server via the utility "Windows Server Backup" (available for free).That way, I could recover my entire server with all the programs and files in case the latter crashes.I'm wondering if this solution could be used as a way of backing up (and recovering) the Oracle database. Should I still set up a regular hot backup with the Archivelog mode enabled in case some operations/transactions were being done at the time of the crash (for the data integrity)?
I set 'maxopenfiles 4' when allocating channel to sbt in my products env, I got 2 backup pieces in one backup set because that tablespace has 7 datafiles. Other configuration is kept as default, such as no maxsize, no MAXPIECESIZE, and etc setting.
I read document from Oracle. It says:"By default a backup set contains one backup piece. To restrict the size of each backup piece, specify the MAXPIECESIZE option of the CONFIGURE CHANNEL or ALLOCATE CHANNEL commands. " And also, maxopenfiles configure does not force another backup piece generated. So, why do I get another backup piece?
BTW, I tried this on another testing environment. I only get one backup piece even there are more than 2 times maxopnefiles datafiles.
I have the RMAN full database backup of oracle 10g (10.2.0.3) on Sun Solaris OS which i want to restore on oracle 11g (11.2.0.3) on Linux OS. The backup pieces was transferred to oracle 11g server manually in binary mode.
the backup is taken in above format. I know the ORACLE_SID and dbid of the database from which the backup has been taken. whenever i tried the following command
mepc@tcstctmatson:/mepc_backup/May22fullbkp$ rman target / Recovery Manager: Release 11.2.0.3.0 - Production on Tue Jul 31 12:14:54 2012 Copyright (c) 1982, 2011, Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved. connected to target database: MEPC (DBID=1595278680)
RMAN> shutdown; using target database control file instead of recovery catalog database closed database dismounted Oracle instance shut down
RMAN> startup nomount;
connected to target database (not started) Oracle instance started
When you create a backup in SQL Server, whether the backup is on disk or on tape, SQL Server writes the letters TAPE to the first four bytes of the backup. Does Oracle write any specify value to the front of every backup, and if so, what are the first four bytes?
what is %N determines in Oracle RMAN HOT Backup. In some documentation it says it gives you backup with respect to tablespace. Is it a version specific ..bcos when tried in above version it failed....
I have a scenario like while taking the hot backup i forgot put end backup mode,at the same time one of user u1 updating some lacks of recordsinto the T1 table.at some time he wants rollback.and my redolog file size is very less.is it possible to rollback? if yes how?
I have 2 seperate rman backup one backup is of only datafile ,spfile and controlfile which i am able to restore and recover without any problem say bkp1 taken at 10 am
other set of backup is of only archive log files of same day but later time than datafile backup say bkp2 taken at 8pm...if i restore and recover bkp1 and try to restore bkp2 it gives error datafile exist (possibly due to fact both backup have control file)
if i just restore bkp1 and try to restore bkp2 so that i can do one recover at time it gives error datafile permission issue (possibly due to fact both backup have control file)
I want to restore database upto 8pm time how can i use both bkp1 and bkp2 to do it(restore datafiles and apply all archive logs on it)
In my company we have few 10.2.0.2 databases and few 10.2.0.4 databases.Currently we are monitoring using OEM 10g (10.1.0.5.0) installed on a seperate server.
Planning to install OEM on a new server as part of server room renovation. let me know the process of installing OEM on a different server without loosing the historical data?Also wondering if the OEM 11g will support the current databases?
