SQL & PL/SQL :: Replacing More Than One String With Null
Jun 22, 2010
I am facing a simple problem, but could not resolve as yet, i want to replace two string 'M/S' and ' " ' with null, i know this command SELECT REPLACE(' " M/S Private linker " ','M/S',NULL) FROM dual Which command i should use
As I am doing a outer join, if the resource is not available on a particular day the resource_id is coming as NULL as it is not available. Is there any way to populate this NULL resource_id with the original resource_id as the resource_id is same for all the result set.
i want to replace 4 digit number in a given string with the same number incremented by 10000.
That mean in the given sting 1201 should be replace by 11201 (Icremented BY 10000).
Input String:
<query><matchAll>true</matchAll><row><columnId>1201</columnId><dataType>31</dataType><op>Like</op><val>North America - Houston</val></row><row><columnId>1212</columnId><dataType>31</dataType><op>!=</op><val>Agreement Date Mismatch</val></row><row><columnId>1212</columnId><dataType>31</dataType><op>!=</op><val>Facility Type Mismatch</val></row><row><columnId>1224</columnId><dataType>31</dataType><op>Like</op><val>y</val></row></query>
Required output :
<query><matchAll>true</matchAll><row><columnId>11201</columnId><dataType>31</dataType><op>Like</op><val>North America - Houston</val></row><row><columnId>11212</columnId><dataType>31</dataType><op>!=</op><val>Agreement Date Mismatch</val></row><row><columnId>11212</columnId><dataType>31</dataType><op>!=</op><val>Facility Type Mismatch</val></row><row><columnId>11224</columnId><dataType>31</dataType><op>Like</op><val>y</val></row></query>
I have a table with no primary key constraints with some roles containing null value/duplicates. I then decided to alter the table to add composite primary key constraints on four columns (a, b, c, and d). I did this by using the same script that was used to create the original table but this time adding the not null constraints.
I then took and export of the original table. I now want to import the data to the newly created table but I am now getting the error: ORA-01400: cannot insert NULL into (string).
I will like to perform the import without NULL. Is there a parameter in impdp that I can use? I tried DATA_OPTIONS=SKIP_CONSTRAINT_ERRORS but it didn't work.
Beside options using impdp is there a way to do an insert statement like this insert into table a (select * from table) excluding NULL;?
Basically, I need to load the data into the newly created table without NULL.
I have an already populated table that refers to a wrong foreign key in another table. I have table abc that has the column fk_id. this column currently refers to column x_id1 in the table abc while it should refer to column x_id2 in xyz. I am trying to replace the data but I guess I miss something in the logic or the right way of doing it:
commit; insert all into abc values (10,'ab1',1) into abc values (11,'ab2',2) into abc values (12,'ab3',5) into abc values (13,'ab4',7) into abc values (14,'ab5',9) into xyz values (1,1,'d1') into xyz values (2,2,'d2') into xyz values (5,3,'d3') into xyz values (7,4,'d4') into xyz values (9,5,'d5') select * from dual; commit;
--this following select returns 5 rows
select * from abc, xyz where abc.fk_id = xyz.x_id1;
-- the following update only updates 3 rows and sets the other 2 -- to null!
update abc set fk_id = (select x_id2 from xyz where xyz.x_id1 = abc.fk_id); commit;
In forms 11 g, whenever, We did any menu change, and deploy in server, same changes are not reflecting in clients machine immediatly. I even stop forms services and restart.After some time... generally after 1 day, it reflect the new changes.In forms 10G, I never face this issue. As soon as i close the old menu and re-open, new changes reflect.
I am doing some ETL that I need to run "faster". The function in which I am interested removes low ascii code characters from a string. Please see the timing below and the definitions of the of the functions below those. I am selecting just the first 100K rows for testing and timing purposes only. In production, we are doing millions of records several times a day, thus the desire for "faster". Selecting with no functions is very fast, 0.2 seconds. We would really really want to convert at least 100K rows per second.
The best I can do is get it down to around five seconds using clear_nonlegal. That is, ironically, the one that I thought would be the slowest. It's making thirty-one calls to REPLACE. I would have guessed that the other two would be much faster. I am guessing that REPLACE is just much better optimized than TRANSLATE and, of course, my homegrown PL/SQL, which isn't optimized at all.
So, my question is thisif there is a way I can optimize my custom function, or maybe know of a better already optimized standard SQL and/or Oracle function that would do the job? I am thinking about trying to use a Java stored procedure, but I have never done that before, I am not currently set up for it, if it would be any faster anyway. Is Java faster with string manipulation the PL/SQL? I am thinking it would be really fast to call a C method,

I can see that I can use REUSE_DATAFILES & TABLE_EXISTS_ACTION to overwrite tables by default, but is there a recognised way of replacing the entire DB with the impdp? Do I just create the instance, (with the init file) and not build/init the tables, or what? I'll experiment, but I'm just interested if there is a DBA best practice for this sort of thing.
Need to create or replace a Standard Sunguard package. When I'm executing, It is asking some series of parameters. when I cancel It is executing but the Web page is not opening giving error like PL/SQL: could not find program unit being called . Not understanding the exact error.
Getting starting with diving deeper into APEX and reading the developers guide all 800 pages of it! Thing is I'd like to get started with some of the more interesting stuff.
I have created a form page based on the "Form on a Table with Report". The report part looks fine. What I'd like to do now is use an API I've built to change how the insert and update works. So when the submit button is pressed it rather performs an API call to the procedure/function.
1. Should the API be a function or procedure. In my playing around I saw that a procedure might work better or easier to implement 2. How would I go about creating a call for the button to use instead of the current processes?

I am running a GROUP BY query on a few columns of enumerated data like:
select count(*), Condition, Size group by Condition, Size;
COUNT(*) CONDITION SIZE -------- ---------- -------- 3 MINT L 2 FAIR L 4 FAIR M 1 MINT S
Well, let's say I also have a timestamp field in the database. I cannot run a group by with that involved because the time is recorded to the milisec and is unique for every record. Instead, I want to include this in my group by function based on whether or not it is NULL.
For example:
COUNT(*) CONDITION SIZE SOLDDATE -------- ---------- -------- ---------- 3 MINT L ISNULL 2 FAIR L NOTNULL 2 FAIR M NOTNULL 2 FAIR M ISNULL 1 MINT S ISNULL
I want to implement a business rule such as we have for each id at most 1 dat null. So, I've created this unique index on test.
create unique index x_only_one_dat_cess_null on test(id, case when dat_cess is null then 'NULL' else to_char(dat_cess, 'dd/mm/yyyy') end);
insert into test values (1, sysdate); insert into test values (1, sysdate - 1); insert into test values (1, null); insert into test values (1, null); -- ----- insert into test values (2, sysdate); insert into test values (2, sysdate - 1); insert into test values (2, null);
The 4th insert will cause an error and this is what I wanted to implement. OK. Now the problem is that for non-null values of dat, we can't have data like this
because of the unique index (the 2nd and the 3rd row are equal). So just for learning purposes, how could we allow at most one null value of dat and allow duplicates for non-null values of dat.
SQL> Describe Stu_Table Name Null? Type ----------------------------------------- -------- ---------------------------- STU_ID VARCHAR2(2) STU_NAME VARCHAR2(10) STU_CLASS VARCHAR2(10)
now when i try to modify this Stu_id column to not null its give me error.
SQL>ALTER TABLE Stu_Table MODIFY Stu_Id int(3)not null; ALTER TABLE Stu_Table MODIFY Stu_Id int(3)not null * ERROR at line 1: ORA-01735: invalid ALTER TABLE option
and when i try to add new column with not null its also gives me error
SQL> ALTER TABLE Stu_Table add C1_TEMP integer NOT NULL; ALTER TABLE Stu_Table add C1_TEMP integer NOT NULL * ERROR at line 1: ORA-01758: table must be empty to add mandatory (NOT NULL) column
I have 8 columns. Some of them might be null.I want to display all 8 columns in my result. Not null columns will be first and null at the end.Here is a sample data :
I'm facing some problem even after using INSTR function in Oracle.The problem is I have written the logic in the PL/SQL block which appends all the values fetched in a loop on the basis of whether the string is present or not.
For ex:
The first value fetched from the select query first is ABCDEFG which gets appended to a variable The next value fetched is AB even this has to be appended to the variable since this exactly doesn't match with ABCDEFG. The next value fetched is BCDEF even this has to be appended to the variable since this exactly doesn't match with ABCDEFG. The third Value fetched is ABCDEFG this will not get appended presently according to the logic which is correct.
writing that piece of code to append the value fetched which doesn't exactly match with the existing string
Suppose that, I have two tables: emp, dept emp records the empid, emp_name, deptid dept records the deptid, dept_name
Here is a record, it's a president or some special position in company, so it's deptid is set to NULL. Here comes the question, how can I print all the emp_name with their deptartment name?
I know how to print all the emp_name with their department name if they have dept_id, but is that possible that I merge the record with dept_id NULL?
How to get 'MEAL' string? The length of the string can be various. Means, 'MEAL' can be 'INFLIGHT'. So, i cant use the substr. Is there a function that can recognize the pipeline? so that i can remove all the string before the pipeline and after the pipeline to get the string between the pipeline?
SELECT TO_DATE('21-NOV-2010') DAY, 0 RATE FROM DUAL UNION SELECT TO_DATE('22-NOV-2010') DAY, 10.5 RATE FROM DUAL UNION SELECT TO_DATE('23-NOV-2010') DAY, 0 RATE FROM DUAL UNION SELECT TO_DATE('24-NOV-2010') DAY, 0 RATE FROM DUAL UNION
I have a trigger "before update" that change some values, including a timestamp column. My sql code does an update using the "returning clause" to get the values changed by the trigger. The problem is:
When I do an "update [...] returning timestamp_field", this timestamp_field has the old value equals to null (in the trigger). And, this field in the table is not null. This problem not occurs with the others fields of type number, varchar... only with the timestamp field.
Here are the code to simulate this problem:
--Table create table TB_TEST ( ID NUMBER(10) not null, FLAG NUMBER(10) not null, TAG VARCHAR2(16) not null, TS_ATU_DTR TIMESTAMP(9) not null );
"old.TS_ATU_DTR=, " Isn't it right????? Why the other fields aren't null? I need the "old.TS_ATU_DTR" to use in my other trigger to compare timestamps, how can I get it?
MY requirment is: I want the first three nullable attributes. For Eg: If I have 60 columns in table, I need to fetch the first three null data in a row.
