i have in tb1 data like and i need the latest status changed date : when date on which the status of the task changes.for the data below for taskno :
1 i need to get the o/p : 1/2/2013and for taskno :

I want to use multiple partitions in from clause of SQL statement. select c1 from tab1 partition (part1,part2); However getting below error message.
ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended00933. 00000 - "SQL command not properly ended"
*Cause:
*Action:Error at Line: 3 Column: 43 Above query is sample query.
Real query is big and hence i cant write using UNION ALL to access multiple partitions.

I am using the below code to update specific sub-partition data using oracle merge statements.
I am getting the sub-partition name and passing this as a string to the sub-partition clause.
The Merge statement is failing stating that the specified sub-partition does not exist. But the sub-partition do exists for the table.
We are using Oracle 11gr2 database.
Below is the code which I am using to populate the data.

I have a requirement of getting different column value for every select clause. my selection is so much freequent. For example.. 10 Select statement /second.
But when if I am running more than select in a second its is showing the same record which is last dequeue.and also tried with RANDOM(). how to get different value for every statement which is running in single point of time.

getting expression into a Group By query in oracle.
I have a simple table with two columns. 'ID' and 'Amount'
I want output of the SQL to the following (only 2 fields in the output): I have attached the desired output.
select sum(amountheld) from table1
where member_status = 'MEMBER'
group by ID
This group by query works. But how can i get the expression field (the first field which 'TEMPACCOUNT') in this query (based on my attached output).

I have a table which has two partitions (by range): first_half and second_half based on a column "INSERT_DAY".
I need to add sub partitions "SUCCESS" and "NONSUCCESS" based on the values of another column "STATUS" (subpartition by list) i.e. I need to transform my range partition to composite (range-list) partition. I do not wish to drop existing tables or partitions. What is the ALTER query for this?

Oracle version : 11.2.0.2 Linux EL6 server
I have a query like below:
select col1, col2, col3, col4
from tab1, tab2, tab3
where conditions
union
[Code]...
Now, the col4 is a date column and I have to order by the entire result sets on it. I know I can do it by (order by col4) or by (order by 4) at the end of the entire query.
But the problem is that, the output is coming in dd-Mon-yyyy (i.e 31-Nov-2012).
I want every output in dd/mm/yyyy format so I need to use to_char function.
But in that case, I cant use the order by clause, because in that case it is getting arranged by character i.e by 1,2,3,4,5 like this.

I came across situation where a Nullable column is not using index for 'order by' clause. I added Not Null condition in the 'where' condition but it wasn't useful. I don't wanted to make composite index with not nullable column or with constant or modify column to 'Not Null'
So I carried out test cases and during which I found that in one case the sql statement does 'fast full scan' for data access but does not use index for 'order by' sorting
here are the steps
Initially I kept the column Nullable
SQL> create sequence s5;

Questions are
1) Why adding 'where id is not null wasn't enough for the index to get used in 'order by'?
2) While we got 'fast full scan' why index wasn't used for 'order by' clause?
3) Do we need the indexed column in where clause for being used in 'order by clause' too?
4) Do we need 'order by' clause if we are selecting only the indexed column with sequence generated values?

We have some tables in our database in which for loading data we have the setup in place to do Exchange partition after data load into staging. Today we did changes to column length to one pair of main and staging table. Post that Exchange partition stop working.

I have a table that partitioned into six partitions. each partitions placed in different table space and every two table space placed it on a different hardisk
when I will do query select with the non-partition keys condition, how the search process ? whether the sequence (scan sequentially from partition 1 to partition 6) or partition in a hardisk is accessed at the same time with other partition in other hardisk. ( in the image, partition 1,4 accessed at the same time with partition 2,5 and 3,6)

How can we partition a table based on date if it does not have a date column.
Actually I have to compare two tables on daily basis and fetch few rows from those two tables and enter it to a third table.But both these tables does not have a date column.
I am confused if i need to alter those tables and add date column or if there is some way in which i can compare the data from the two tables for that particular day only and not the whole table data.

I am using Oracle 11.2.0.1 Oracle Database.I have a table with 10 Million records and it's a Non Partitioned Table.
1) I would like to partition the table (with partition by range ) without creating new table . I should do it in the existing table itself (not sure DBMS_ REDEFINITION is the only option ) (or) can i use alter table ...?
2) Add one partition which will have data for the unspecified range.
