my goal is finding the first free ticket ( not sold ) in the ticket table and insert buyer information of that ticket in customer_ticket table. at last I will mark that ticket as a sold one in ticket table with update.
Problem is that the first transaction locks the the first row in ticket table and the second transaction running the same query goes to wait untill the first transaction commit or rollback. However when first transaction finish successfully, second transaction select duplicate id from ticket table that was selected by the first transaction!
I tried to solve problem with "skip locked" and "nowait" options with select for update, but they didn't work.

Feb 21, 2013The problem is that this connection errors when I try to connect using my SQuirreL client. My developers want to connecting using the SID or the SERVICE_NAME and by using the "New Method" syntax, not the "Old Method" syntax. According to the documentation the "New Method" syntax works with the SERVICE_NAME or the SID. The "Old Method" only works with the SID.
# Host name is vmwwin7634.na.SAS.com
# SID is sting2
# SERVICE_NAME is sting2.na.sas.com
PROBLEM using SID errors ==> jdbc:oracle:thin:@vmwwin7634.na.SAS.com:1521/sting2
THIS WORKS using SERVICE_NAME ==> jdbc:oracle:thin:@vmwwin7634.na.SAS.com:1521/sting2.na.sas.com

Dec 11, 2012I have new virtual UNIX machine and I installed oracle client on /usr/lib/oracle. Also I have a oracle database and I am able to connect to this database from my desktop sql developer.
So now I am trying to connect from new UNIX machine. Where I created tnsnames.ora file under /usr/lib/oracle/network/admin and before connecting did export the following
export TNS_ADMIN=/usr/lib/oracle/network/admin
export ORACLE_HOME=/usr/lib/oracle/
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib

when I try

ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist. Not sure what I missed here. using same tns file I am able to connect from sql developer on windows.

Oracle 8i Client On Win 7 X64
Jan 24, 2013I am trying to install oracle 8i client onto a win7 x64 box. The client installs no problem. I can add the DSN entry into the 32bit odbc admin no problem (no test button on 8i version of the ODBC driver unfortunately).
However when I try to create a new report in crystal reports XI (32 bit app) and try to make a new database connection, I can see the DSN entry that I put into ODBC earlier but after i put in the username and password then press ok it just hangs. Crystal reports goes into a state of "not responding" but never comes back with an error.

Not Able To Connect From Client Machine
Dec 23, 2010I have installed oracle 10g on Red Hat Linux and I am able to connect as well.The listener and DB is up and running and I am able to coonect as well from the server.
But I have installed the oracle client (TOAD) on some windows machine and from there I am not able to connect . I am directly connecting by giving IP and other details and using TNS as well but I am not able to connect from client machine. I am getting ORA 12170 - TNS timeout error.

On windows 7 (64 bit), we have oracle client 11g (64 bit). but the Vb application cannot make connection with the database although i can query the database using SQL Plus.

Installation was successful and I was able to create the required service names and test them to the Oracle database server. Now when I try to create an ODBC connection with Oracle in OraClient10g_home1, I get the following error: SQORAS32
An unsupported operation was attempted
If I install Oracle client 10.2.0.1.0, I don't get this error. It happens with the latest client. Is there any was to solve this error?
