Oct 10, 2011we have a table attendance_d with no constraint which have duplicate emp_id we want to stop duplicate emp_id on the same date. if employee's record already entered in today's date then duplicate Error message must show if he tries again to enter the same record. for this i have written the following code but it is not working date wise some body. i want to use on WHEN VALIDATE ITEM TRIGGER in oracle forms 6i.

Dec 21, 2009I have one table in which I want to restrict some records from being inserted. I don't want to put any checked constraints. e.g. consider following table
transaction(
id number primary key,
txn_date timestamp(7),
payee varchar2(40),
amount number,
memo varchar2(40),
ref_num number
)
I want to write SQL which should not inset duplicate record.
e.g.
I have written one as bellow:
insert into transaction
select 1, to_date('2009-12-12','YYYY-MM-DD'), 'Payee1', 12, 'Test', 212 from dual where
(select count(*) from transaction where txn_date=to_date('2009-12-12','YYYY-MM-DD') and
payee='Payee1' and amount=12)=0;
Can I use exists/not exists, which query will be more appropriate. (Please consider that fields which I am using to filter out the duplicate transactions does not contain primary key.)
Can I write such SQL. Or do i check for duplicate rows one by one and then filter the duplicate records.

Jul 18, 2013I have requirement to suppress the duplicate nodes on same level in hierarchy query.
Below given is the script for it.

Table 'TBL_APP' is having 2 parent nodes i.e 'TBL_AOV' and 'TBL_ADV'

At level 5 there is duplicate nodes i.e 'TBL_APP' and 'TBL_ACS' as parent_node and child_node respectively.
SELECT PARENT_NODE, CHILD_NODE, LEVEL FROM NODE_LVL START WITH PARENT_NODE = 'TBL_ACF' CONNECT BY PRIOR CHILD_NODE = PARENT_NODE;
I want to suppress such duplicates. So I added DISTINCT
SELECT DISTINCT PARENT_NODE, CHILD_NODE, LEVEL FROM NODE_LVL START WITH PARENT_NODE = 'TBL_ACF' CONNECT BY PRIOR CHILD_NODE = PARENT_NODE;
BUT requirement is to maintain the same order (of hierarchy) as it was before adding DISTINCT.

Feb 19, 2010I have a form that the user has to enter a time of an event.
The time entered will most likely be in the past and NOT the current time.
What is the best way to set up a form and a database table for time entry only (exclude the date)?
I have tried datetime on the form with format HH12:MM PM and date on the database.
I have also tried the same with a timestamp on the database.
The time always appears to get entered correctly. However, the time is always stored as AM regardless of what is specified by the user.

Here is a record, it's a president or some special position in company, so it's deptid is set to NULL. Here comes the question, how can I print all the emp_name with their deptartment name?
I know how to print all the emp_name with their department name if they have dept_id, but is that possible that I merge the record with dept_id NULL?

The problem is that in the system where I am working is that the users are on application level not on database level. If the users are on db level then by using roles and grants one can set privileges for each db user. Is there any way to block user from accessing some part of menu or from the forms itself?

so i have written code as below:
