May 5, 2011Can I use OFA and Raid system together for Oracle 11g in Windows 2008 Server? I am installing the OS in C drive. Where to install the oracle, location for Oracle_Base, number of logical and physical drive required, size of each etc.
I am planning to use
Raid 1 - Controlfile, redolog file and archive log file
Raid 1+0 - Datafiles
Also I want to multiplex virtual memory page also.
Error In OS Level Authentication For Oracle 11gR2 Database Access?
Mar 18, 2011We have an issue regarding OS level authentication to access Oracle 11gR2(11.2.0.1) database.
Our environment -
UNIX - AIX 5.3 (OS user id password is having kerberos security).
Oracle 11.2.0.1 (32 bit client) installed in server 1
Oracle 11.2.0.1 (64 bit server) installed in server 2.
Everything works fine when we created a general userid test_db in the database and connect through sqlplus test_db@dbname.
But when we try to use the option of OS level authentication using "sqlplus /", it throws following error and could not be connected.
ERROR: ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
I have created the same OS user name in database (with external password authentication) with prefix OPS$. we have set ORACLE_SID as well.

Feb 25, 2011We have a new implementation which will be using ASM with RAID. The data area needs to be 3TB, and the recovery area, to be used for archive logs and RMAN backups, needs to be 1TB.
The configuration i'm thinking about now is:
+DATA diskgroup: 5*600G disks, using RAID 1+0 (this will include control files)
+FRA diskgroup: 2*500G disks, using RAID 1
+LOG diskgroup: 2*1G disks, using RAID 1 (this is only for redo logs)
So here are my questions:
1. Am I right in supposing that we would get the best performance on the +FRA and +LOG diskgroups by not using RAID 1+0?
2. It has already been agreed to use RAID 1+0 for the +DATA diskgroup, but I can't see the added benefit of this. ASM will already stripe the data, so surely RAID 0 will just stripe it again (i.e double striping the data). Would it not be the better just to mirror the data at a hardware level?

maybe to subtract its value from its second value
got it ?
so will choose

to do : value of second one - value of first one

Oct 7, 2011I have created a form in Oracle Forms 6i that utilizes a tabbed interface. Each section of the form has different modules to create a quote on the end page. As far as the logic goes, I have it complete. However, I would like to choose the tab that is in focus, and I can't find a place to change this in the property panel. What am I missing? I don't want it to focus on the last tab which is the totals page, when it should focus on the first page where you enter the data.

Validation In Database Through Statement Level Trigger
Mar 23, 2011I have a table which contains data of all calcualted payements for a Land for a particular period i.e. for a Land 124 for the duration of Jan-2010 to Mar-2010 100 rupees rent is paid to the owner.Requirement here is that for a particular duration i.e is for Jan-2010 to Mar-2010 system calculation of rent for a land file multiple times where the table would contain history of each transaction i.e. a user can calculate for a Land 124 for duration fo Jan-2010 to Mar-2010 rent more than ten times and there would be ten records in the table but only one record out of these would be valid where the user cannot calcualte rent for Lnd 124 for Jan-2010 to Mar-2010 without updating the status of the last record in the table for the same land and duration to invlaid. I want to add this business validation through triggers as i am not able to do so through check constarinst.I want to ensure that only one record should be valid for a particular land for a particular duration since row level triggers do not allow us to query the table ion which the trigger is executing i am trying to use statement level trigger but i have a few doubts here: Incase of a Before Insert statement level trigger does the trigger have access to the data which is being inserted into that the table cause whenever a record is being inserted into a table the systen would check through the trigger that if there is a valid (payment_status is valid) payment record in the table for that same land file and same duration.If there is a valid record then the trigger would through an exception. I know you can use a row level trigger with an autonomous transaction should work wihtout giving the mutating table error issue but i wont to know if using a statement level trigger here is feasible!!

In some of my queries I need to get data from the remote databases, but the remote database to use depends on the application user, so, I would like to dynamically use one of the database links.
Something like this:
1 � user logs into the application;
2 � based on the user credentials the application defines the db link to use;
3 � query data using the defined db link.
(for example)
SELECT a.col1, a.col2 FROM table_A@dyndblink a ORDER BY a.col1;
@dyndblink would be a "pointer" to dblinkR1 or dblinkR1.
Is there a way to dynamically define the database link to use (at a session level)?

How To Choose Best Stripe Size For A RAID10 Array - 10gR2
Oct 7, 2010I have been studying possible ways to calculate the best size for the stripe size on my new storage. From what I have seen it appears that there is no straight answer but I believe there must be good way of estimating it. I am deploying a new storage that uses 16 x 600GB 15k RPM 6Gbps SAS drives, it is supposed to be very fast but I think if I get the stripe size on the RAID10 array right I should be able to get even more out of it. I am running oracle 10.2.0.4.0 (10gR2) on 64bit Linux with 32GB of RAM, the SGA is set to 20GB.
What I read said that the "stripe size must be at least as large as the I/O size." The I/O size is calculated from DB_BLOCK_SIZE * DB_ FILE_ MULTIBLOCK_ READ_COUNT, which is my case is "db_block_size = 16k * db_file_multiblock_read_count = 16 = 256k." The current RAID10 array that I am using which will be decommissioned soon has a stripe size of 128k, and if I understood it all correctly it is undersized for my Oracle instance.
With an I/O size of 256k the smallest stripe that I should choose is 256k but how do I know what is the best combination of db_file_ multiblock_ read_ count and db_block_size?
We are planning to create new table space with a block size of 32k as this has been recommended by a number of DBAs but with "db_block_size = 32k * db_file_multiblock_read_count = 16 = 512k".
Is this a viable size? Do you think this will actually improve performance on my system? Note that this database gets about 1500 insertions per second and peaks around 3000 insertions per second, it is a mixture of OLTP and data warehousing.
After doing a lot of research I came across an article by "Don Burleson" which says that starting in Oracle 10gR2 the "Oracle recommends not setting the db_file_multiblock_read_count parameter, allowing Oracle to empirically determine the optimal setting." References: URLs.....
