View 3 RepliesI recently stumbled upon a post for an undocumented golden gate procedure that I find VERY useful when repairing / simplifying spatial data as a DBA without causing user triggers to fire and do unnecessary work, etc. Anything with foo in the name must be good, right? ;-)
HINT: Oracle please make this a documented feature!
This will disable triggers – just for a session – no system wide changes or trigger mods needed! Yes, fire needs to be set to true - to disable the triggers from firing.
exec sys.dbms_xstream_gg.set_foo_trigger_session_contxt(fire=>true);
Note, you will need execute permissions on sys.dbms_xstream_gg first.See for more info: URL.....
I have an application in Form 6i and I have implemented expiration of Session-level database of profiles, the problem I have is that I do not know in which time expired the session because it shows me no message and the application is open, try to do something and begin to get errors .
View 2 Replies View RelatedA way to show session parameters? Such as
CONSTRAINTS
USE_STORED_OUTLINES
ROW ARCHIVE VISIBILITY
CURRENT_SCHEMA
I can detect the CURRENT_SCHEMA with a query against the user env context, but I can't find any of the others there. Could there be an issue with these values being stored in PGA, and therefore not visible though any regular views? I did find an article that showed a query against an x$ data structure which showed something for different settings of CONSTRAINTS, but I can't find it again.
I've been searching the web for examples of how to run a trace.It's needed for a session different then current in trace LEVEL 4 (I need the bind variables values in the trace).
Unfortunately, I couldn't trace with DBMS_SUPPORT.START_TRACE_IN_SESSION, I understand that this is because it was only introduced in Oracle 11g.
how can i trace a session in level 4 on Oracle 10g for another session?
Three databases: A, R1, R2. Database A is local and the other two databases are remote. Database A has one db link to each remote database (dblinkR1 and dblinkR2).
In some of my queries I need to get data from the remote databases, but the remote database to use depends on the application user, so, I would like to dynamically use one of the database links.
Something like this:
1  user logs into the application;
2  based on the user credentials the application defines the db link to use;
3 query data using the defined db link.
(for example)
SELECT a.col1, a.col2 FROM table_A@dyndblink a ORDER BY a.col1;
@dyndblink would be a "pointer" to dblinkR1 or dblinkR1.
Is there a way to dynamically define the database link to use (at a session level)?
At my prod instance one sql query ran for about 9 hours.Now the sql query completed with success.Suddenly our ops team want to know the which sql query was running for 9 hours.As the query got success no record is being found at session level.
I know the SID.How Do I get the SQL query ?

+ when the redolog 5 was archived how the archiving process works ?
let say both the log members are clean in case which one will be archived 5a or 5b ?
+ I can also see only one archive log is creating during log swtich
I'm currently working on a project which is to archive the old data and then purge the same data from the main table.
Here is a detail description:
There are around 50 odd tables from which I would need to archive the old data(matching certain filter conditions...not date based). Meaning I have to store the data in a temp table. Once stored in temp table then I would have to delete those rows from the main table. This temp table will be later exported and stored on ARchive database(a seperate database). These tables are very huge. One of the table is actually 250 GB in size. And all these tables have many indexes built - both normal and bitmap.The 250 GB size table has 40 million rows that need to be archived and purged. The total number of rows in the table are 540 million.On this table alone there are 50 bitmap indexes and 2 normal indexes. This table is partitioned based on date column.This date column is not used/useful in identifying the old data. There are around 20 tables which are quite similar in size to the above described table. Rest of them are little small when compared to the above table.
We have to execute this activity over a weekend which gives us about 48 hours time to complete the activity. Best possible ways to handle this activity. Most importantly should be able to complete the activity within the specified 48 hour window.
The solution what we are now thinking of is:
1. Create the temp table ---Create tmp_tbl as select * from main_table where <<conidtions identifying old data>>
2. Once the temp table is created. Make copy of indexes that exist on the main table and eventually drop them.
3. Execute a PL/SQL script to perform the bulk delete from main table and commit for every 100000 rows.
4. Once the bulk delete is finished then recreate the indexes on the main table using the copy made at earlier step.
Our main worry is about the step#4. Considering the size of these tables and the number of indexes to be built,we are not sure how long the index re-creation will run for each table.
depending on the possibilities we may have to split the activity in to 2-3 phases spreading across 2-3 weekends. Even then we are not sure whether we will be able to pull off this activity.
The database we are using is Oracle 10g.
I am working on an archiving strategy. I want to roll off transactions that are older than seven days, but only if they are flagged as Completed. The numbers of transactions are very large so this is a worthwhile venture.
The only strategy I have been able to come up with so far is to partiton on date. Then when 7 days comes up, sweep the about-to-be archived day for the few remaining not Completed transactions, put those into a new table (a new version of this partiton) and switch partitions. Each day I do this until the older parititions are empty.

what is the difference on DBMS_STATS for table level and partition level , which will provide the best optimizer . If the table xxxx is partitioned from 1 to 10 ,then running gather stats on table xxxx as whole table level or partition level which will provide best result on the performance.

I have an urgent requirement to kill an existing session if a new session starts for the same user. I have been reading lot of blogs and posts on the above topic, but could clearly tell me how to do it.
I thought of putting a process in 101 page when login button is pressed to catch this and kill the old session.
We are using Apex 4.0/Oracle 10gR2/ Hp-Ux, We noticed that there is a process Running in Two Sessions that seems running since 3 Hours using 60% CPU,** 30% given below sql it executes in two Sessions!

We have an issue regarding OS level authentication to access Oracle 11gR2(11.2.0.1) database.
Our environment -
UNIX - AIX 5.3 (OS user id password is having kerberos security).
Oracle 11.2.0.1 (32 bit client) installed in server 1
Oracle 11.2.0.1 (64 bit server) installed in server 2.
Everything works fine when we created a general userid test_db in the database and connect through sqlplus test_db@dbname.
But when we try to use the option of OS level authentication using "sqlplus /", it throws following error and could not be connected.
ERROR: ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
I have created the same OS user name in database (with external password authentication) with prefix OPS$. we have set ORACLE_SID as well.

Can you take an incremental backup level 1 or level 0 without archivelogs?
syntax would bebackup as compressed backupset cummulative level 1 database.
The reason I ask is because when I run backup as compressed backupset cummulative level 1 database plus archivelogs # it runs fine, but when I run backup as compressed backupset cummulative level 1 database it just hangs.
