Dec 30, 2011
when i try to run dbstart i got Message like "

how to set oracle listener ? i tried using listener.ora file again show the same error
Recently, I've just restored my QAS database and filesystem from my backup tape. I have checked all the configuration files and oracle setting files and do not notice any problem.
However, when I tried to start my listener, it shows some error messages as below. As a result, I'm unable to start my SAP application.
Error: ------- Instance "QAS", status UNKNOWN, has 1 handler(s) for this service...
For you information, I'm able to start my Oracle instance. Please refer to below.

Should i have to do some changes in sqlnet.ora for overriding the default settings?
run { CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON; CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO '/dd_oraback/tkprod/%F'; CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 22 DAYS; sql 'alter system archive log current';
[code]...
So /dd_oraback is a Data Domain mount. Not sure if that makes any difference or not.
I have an oracle autoback of controlfile and spfile. I am trying to restore the production database using this backup, into a new server with a different directory structure.
I have completed the following steps in the restore process.
1. Creating a pfile from spfile
2. Changing the the location of cdump, udump, bdump and the control files ( there are three )
3. Then creating a spfile from this pfile
I am stuck on the next step where to rename all the datafiles and tempfile and restore the database. Following is what I did.
After mounting the database in RMAN, tried to run the following.
RMAN> run 2> { 3> allocate channel c1 device type disk 4> ; 5> @/home/oracle/rman_scripts/newloc.rman 6> SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 1 TO '/u02/oradata/dorian/system01.dbf'; 7> SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 2 TO '/u02/oradata/dorian/undotbs01.dbf'; 8> SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 3 TO '/u02/oradata/dorian/sysaux01.dbf'; 9> SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 4 TO '/u02/oradata/dorian/users01.dbf';
[code]....
I am getting the following error message.
Starting restore at 25-JAN-2012 21:26:48 released channel: c1 RMAN-00571: =========================================================== RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS =============== RMAN-00571: =========================================================== RMAN-03002: failure of restore command at 01/25/2012 21:26:49 RMAN-06026: some targets not found - aborting restore RMAN-06100: no channel to restore a backup or copy of datafile 30 RMAN-06100: no channel to restore a backup or copy of datafile 29 RMAN-06100: no channel to restore a backup or copy of datafile 28
I need to restore entire database(sp+control+datafile) to new host.I have started the instance with nomount( and it has created a dummy parameter file).Now, I need to fire the command to restore spfile.
RUN { ALLOCATE CHANNEL c1 DEVICE TYPE sbt PARMS='...'; RESTORE SPFILE TO PFILE '?/oradata/test/inittrgta.ora' FROM AUTOBACKUP; SHUTDOWN ABORT; }
My questions:-
1.How will RMAN find the location of backupset(Since there is controlfile for neither target or catalog database)?
2.How does RMAN reache the backupset in case of a)tape b)disk?
I am attempting to use an rman backup form our live server to restore live data over an existing dev database with a different name. I cant use the duplicate command as the versions of oracle are different (10.2.0.4 EE on live, 10.2.0.5 SE on dev) So I copied the backup sets including an autobackup control file onto the dev server. I set the ORACLE_SID to the DEV version (SUN43DEV) and startup nomount and restore controlfile from the backup location. This works and restored the live controlfile. However, I then wanted to mount the database and catalog the backupsets before making a note of the last archivelog etc and restoring the backup with set newname options. But when I try to mount the database I am told that the database has a different name (SUN43 is not SUN43DEV). I read somewhere that I need to set the ORACLE_SID to the live value (SUN43) and restore as that, then use nid TO RESET THE DBID and DATABASE NAME. However, my tnsnames on DEV has no entry for the live database, and we do not have any service defined through ORADIM for the live instance on the dev server. Should I be creating an entry in DEV tnsnames that actually looks at the LIVE server? or do I need to create a service and tns entry etc for SUN43 on my DEV server pointing at the DEV server I have not seen any mention in instructions of creating a service or adding the entry to tnsnames, or indeed adding an entry to the listener for the original live sid. I am worried that if I actually point to the live server then the restore would be attempted on the live server not dev even though I am running it from Dev.
Also, do I need to drop the existing database on DEV before I restore or will RMAN just restore over the top of it?
Finally, if I try to add an entry to the LISTENER.ORA for the new sid, when I stop and start the listener, or reload, the entry is not recognised. I also noticed that the existing SUN43DEV entry is not in there either, yet I can still use that SID - I am assuming that is because the listener is not being used and the sid is recognised from the existence of the service in windows services instead?
Can't start the Database and can't backup What is happening now. My database connection is not stable so can't do the backup.I spent two days trying unsuccessfully.
check the following print screen : [test@localhost ~]$ xhost +access control disabled, clients can connect from any host[test@localhost ~]$ [test@localhost ~]$ [test@localhost ~]$ su - rootPassword: [root@localhost ~]# [root@localhost ~]# [root@localhost ~]# su - oracle[oracle@localhost ~]$ [oracle@localhost ~]$ export ORACLE_SID=db11gr2[oracle@localhost ~]$ [oracle@localhost ~]$ echo $ORACLE_HOME/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1[oracle@localhost ~]$
I am not able to take backup of table which is partitioned.Whenever i start the backup it was hanging with wait event "asynch descriptor resize", so I tried to create another table using original table ( like create table BASE_TABLE AS SELECT * FROM BASE_TABLE), but it is also hanging with same wait event.
I tried to reinstall oracle 11g on windows 2008 R2 and couldn't complete the installation as i am unable to start the oracle service. The system gives the following error message
Instance created. DIM-00019: create service error O/S-Error: (OS 1053) The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
I try to manually create the service and it gives me the same error.I also tried to start the service using the net start as follows
C:UsersAdministrator>net start oracleserviceprod The service is not responding to the control function.
Having looked at the event viewer in windows, I noticed three different error messages as followsr
Application popup: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library : Runtime Error!
R6034 An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.and then A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the OracleServiceprod service to connect.
The OracleServiceprod service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
We have a server that crashed due to hardware failure and although brought back up OK Oracle DB's are no longer mounting. I am not a DBA but it looks bad to me and it seems there are no backups. This is Oracle 11G XE running on Centos 6. There is no Oracle contract here.

unable to start the DBCONSOLE immediately after installing Oracle 11G R2 onto my Windows 7 box. Here is what I have ran from the command line:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. C:Userssandifer>emctl start dbconsole Environment variable ORACLE_UNQNAME not defined. Please set ORACLE_UNQNAME to database unique name. C:Userssandifer>SET ORACLE_HOSTNAME=localhost

I checked the above listed file path, and sure enough, OC4J_DBConsole_localhost_orcl is missing.
I am getting this following error.After that we added more space to that.But still it is showing. What might be the issue.
ORA-01652: unable to extend temp segment by 128 in tablespace TBSDESDBTMP *Action: Use ALTER TABLESPACE ADD DATAFILE statement to add one or more files to the tablespace indicated.
It is showing to add datafile to that tablespace .How to achieve this.
I'm running the following and getting access denied errors.What do I need to do to make the recovery files available of the duplicate host?I cataloged the backupsets at the network path of where they are, I don't have space on the drive for the backupset and the restored database once it's done.

I have facing problem while taking backup on Windows 7 client of Oracle 11g R2 database. I have installed oracle 11gR2 for windows on windows 7 machine. I have created a directory like below in database.
On Database Server
SQL> create directory win_expdp_dir as 'd:expimp';
Directory created.
SQL> grant read, write on directory win_expdp_dir to lab;
Grant succeeded.
On Windows 7 machine (client machine)
D:appproduct11.2.0client_1BIN>expdp lab/lab@wbdata.wbh-db11g DIRECTORY=win_expdp_dir DUMPFILE=lab.dmp LOGFILE=lab.log Export: Release 11.2.0.1.0 - Production on Mon May 2 12:51:44 2011 Copyright (c) 1982, 2009, Oracle and/or its affiliates. I have give all sharing rights on d:expimp directory. My main question is why i'm getting this error. Is there any thing missing in setup. how to take export on windows 7 client.
I've read a lot about the different types of backup available with Oracle (hot and cold backup). However, I was thinking of a different way of performing this task. I'm currently using Windows Server 2008 R2 and Oracle 11g Standard Edition. I'd like to schedule an entire backup of my server via the utility "Windows Server Backup" (available for free).That way, I could recover my entire server with all the programs and files in case the latter crashes.I'm wondering if this solution could be used as a way of backing up (and recovering) the Oracle database. Should I still set up a regular hot backup with the Archivelog mode enabled in case some operations/transactions were being done at the time of the crash (for the data integrity)?
1. Install patch 6613550 (./rootpre.sh) 2. Install 10.2.0.1 for AIX 64-bit 3. Install 10.2.0.5 Patch Set 4. Create Database 5. Created/Setup LISTENER and TNSNAMES (test connection successful)
After installation of database, everything went well until we tried to restart the server, what happened is that we cannot start the listener, the error was:
TNS-12555: TNS:permission denied TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error TNS-00525: Insufficient privilege for operation IBM/AIX RISC System/6000 Error: 1: Not owner
What i did to resolve this problem is to change the owner of /tmp to oracle, after that i was able to start the listener. ($lsnrctl start) The problem is that our sys admin said that the /tmp directory is being used by the OS and it's owner must be root. But if i return it to root, the listener will not start again. (After server restart)
BTW, our /tmp has enough space so we did not perform the following steps from the installation guidelines:
I set 'maxopenfiles 4' when allocating channel to sbt in my products env, I got 2 backup pieces in one backup set because that tablespace has 7 datafiles. Other configuration is kept as default, such as no maxsize, no MAXPIECESIZE, and etc setting.
I read document from Oracle. It says:"By default a backup set contains one backup piece. To restrict the size of each backup piece, specify the MAXPIECESIZE option of the CONFIGURE CHANNEL or ALLOCATE CHANNEL commands. " And also, maxopenfiles configure does not force another backup piece generated. So, why do I get another backup piece?
BTW, I tried this on another testing environment. I only get one backup piece even there are more than 2 times maxopnefiles datafiles.

I am not using RAC (to my knowledge), but I installed grid so I can use ASM with my RDBMS.
Recently I noticed that the "CRS Listener" service was not started, when I try to start it then it immediately stops. It does not seem to affect the databases, they are still up and running. What is this service used for and how can I get it to start. I am using Oracle Enterprise Server 11.2.0.3 and Grid 11.2.0.3 on a Windows 2008 R2 64-bit server.
