Can i know the internal process of initialization of DB into memory in timesten , when a new connection is establishing? Will timesten create tables and indexes in RAM when first connection is established if the RAM policy is default?
want to know the internal functional flow of timesten when any command is fired against it.

i created a materialized view, and whenever i try to refresh data, using the following package(dbms_mview.refresh), im getting the ORA-04030 error
ORA-12008: error in materialized view refresh path
ORA-04030: out of process memory when trying to allocate 1052696 bytes (callheap,kllcqas:kllsltba)
As far as i know, there no shortage of ram in this machine, im not sure what is causing this error, Then i tried to do a bulk insert using a "INSERT /*+ APPEND */ " in a package, when i execute it, im getting the same error again.
exec M_GET_FACILITIES_DETAILS.GET_AUTOFINANCE_HP_DETAILS('29-Feb-2008');
ORA-04030: out of process memory when trying to allocate 1052696 bytes (callheap,kllcqas:kllsltba)
The number of records im trying to insert is around 600,000, but if i try to repeat the same process with 50000 records, it works fine. i Actually is there any oracle parameter i need to change, cause im afraid if i do that, later in production, it might effect some other modules.

I am getting most of the time 'out of process memory' when i run the 'ord' procedure.here i am providing the tables and the procedure.
i have 2 table orders which holds distinct values, and departments table has ordvalue column holds long string of values for a particular record from orders table. for example if the values in orders table as follows:
ord_code ord_level ordid ordstatus ord_num user utimestamp
SR11 1 2 A 101 V SYSDATE
SR11 1 2 A 102 V SYSDATE
SR11 1 2 A 103 V SYSDATE
SR11 1 2 A 104 V SYSDATE
SR11 1 2 A 105 V SYSDATE
SR11 1 2 A 106 V SYSDATE
SR11 1 1 B 101 R SYSDATE
SR11 1 1 B 102 R SYSDATE
SR11 1 1 B 103 R SYSDATE
SR11 1 1 B 104 R SYSDATE
SR11 1 1 B 105 R SYSDATE
SR11 1 1 B 106 R SYSDATE
ETC...
AT TABLE departments data will be like this
ord_code ord_level ordid ordstatus ord_num user utimestamp
SR11 1 2 A 101,102,103,104,105,106 V sysdate
SR11 1 2 B 101,102,103,104,105,106 R sysdate
from the get_ord procedure the data aggreates using the xmlelement and gets as a long string value into departments table of ord_num column.
CREATE TABLE test.orders
(
ord_CODE VARCHAR2(4 BYTE) NOT NULL,
ord_LEVEL VARCHAR2(1 BYTE) NOT NULL,
ordID NUMBER(5) NOT NULL,
ordstatus VARCHAR2(1 BYTE) NOT NULL,

So I have an extremely weird error that I just found after several month of being upgraded to 10g from 6i. Right now I have several data blocks where users input data. The field that they input into is fairly long, so we give them the option to double-click which opens up the editor.
Now, if they do this when entering the field for the first time, everything works great. However, if they save, then decide to go back into the data block and edit the field, they can edit it in the text just fine. However, if they double-click and bring up the text editor, after they click ok (or cancel) it jumps back to the first data block.
What is more weird is I can't get it to happen on my own machine, only when it is running on the unix server. On top of that, I was able to avoid the issue by simply showing a message saying "field is about to be edited" and making them click ok. Of course, it's a work-around

I receive this error. In my opinion the problem could be related to the presence of one personalized authentication schemas, based on a DB function, taken from a Packaged application, some years ago, called "menu_framework".
This is the error report:

1) after the error trap, I copied the Image folder and tried to launch APEX. It was possible to lunch the development pages, but impossible to execute any application with the error: Authentication Schema not Supported
2) then decided to downgrade to APEX 4.0, following the proper instructions: received a similar error:
.......
SQL> exec apex_040000.wwv_flow_upgrade.switch_schemas('APEX_040100','APEX_040000

BEGIN apex_040000.wwv_flow_upgrade.switch_schemas('APEX_040100','APEX_040000');
END;

The execution of application reported the same problem.Then decided to restore the entirre DB.
Where is my problem?Are my suspects real or the Authentication schema malfunctiong is a conseguence of the upgrade error?

I just upgraded my oracle DB version from 9 to 11.2g with the assistance of a DBA. The upgrade went fine, and all the data transfered as it should.
The only problem that I got is that almost every query that I try to run via my PL/SQL developer throws the ORA-01843 error. I checked the NLS-lang property from the previus DB and it is the same as the new one. The DBA says that the problem is in the PLSQL properties (althogh I didn't change them).

We are considering upgrading our current system from Oracle 9i to 11g. The current operating system is SUSE Enterprise 9.
The 11g requirements say an update to SUSE Enterprise 10 is required to support the Oracle 11g installation.
Will I need to recompile my existing application programs which use pro C precompiler to create code that accesses the Oracle database when I upgrade the operating system and database?

I am trying to run a trace file with TKPROF. It throws an error :
MEMORY FAULT
The size of the trace file is 8MB. I tried with some other file trace files bigger in size (10MB) than the above file, it works fine. I tried seeing any permission right is required on that trace file is required for the tkprof to excute, but it has got the same permissions like the other trace files.
The problem is that it is not showing any error number or any other Error Description other than "MEMORY FAULT".

While running large report to screen the error is:
"REP-1800: Formatter error. VGS-1701: Not enough memory"
My Observation:When running report to screen, report builder creates 3 temporary files to REPORTS60TEMP folder. When one of the file size reaches to exactly 2GB it gives the above mentioned error and report crashes.
I have visited metalink and get the following:
****************************************************
Problem Description
-------------------
You are running a very large report to screen or preview and you get the following errors:
rep-1800 formatter error
vgs-1701 not enough memory
Solution Description
Increase the size of the buffer for the report.
i've tried following solutions but problem still there:
1) increase and decrease the size of the buffers
2) Removing total number of pages filed so all pages not formated at once.
3) increase the size of the virtual memory of OS
4) increase the size of the PC to 1 GB
I am using report builder 6i, Oracle 10g and windows XP

I have the following setup
SQL> show parameter sga;
NAME TYPE VALUE
------------------------------------ ----------- ------------------------------
lock_sga boolean FALSE
pre_page_sga boolean FALSE
sga_max_size big integer 3G
sga_target big integer 2G
from what I read I beleive this will initially grab 2GB of memory on startup and will grab up to to 3GB of memory total for the SGA. The "total" memory can be allocated to different peices of the SGA when needed but will never exceed 3GB. Is this correct or would these settings infringe on any available memory on a system that is already tight on memory?
Secondly, what happens if both these values are set to the same value?

In Oracle database these rows occupy about 200 MB space.

Background:
A client of us has given us a new requirement to write batch extracts from an operational database. While that per se is not the issue it is the peculiar circumstances that have made it a bit of head ache.
i. The database is an operational system (for telco billing)
ii. THe data from key tables of events etc. has to be replicated to downstream systems like the data warehouse, reporting areas etc. every 15 mins.
iii. Needless to say there are about 50 million records to unload from the table.
iv. The tables are partitioned and tuned for operational purposes.
v. The dba are a bit touchy (surprise!) about persons accessing their db directly for unloads
vi. There is no stand by or replication from this database
So, given the above what would you experts recommend as an option. We had recommended a golden gate based solution however that has is thought of long term solution as it will involve purchases and some POC. Would be grateful if persons can enumerate options, tools, 3rd party options or oracle design solutions .

We are running Oracle Apps 11i on Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise SP2 (32 bit). After enabling /3GB switch parameter in Boot.ini file, the OS recognizes the 8GB RAM and consumes it upto 5.6GB during non-peak hours but as workload increases in evening when end users generate auto receipts the same memory usage ratio reaches upto 6GB resulting the OS gets hang and don't respond at all. Inspite of having 2GB free memory it doesn't consume it. We have to shut down it by pressing the power off button and restart it
The system configuration is as under:
HP ProLiant DL380 G6
Intel Xeon 2.4 GHz
8GB RAM (4 x 2 GB)

I am aware that from 11g, memory_target is sufficient for memeory management between SGA and PGA.
what happens if MEMORY_TARGET set to non-zero and SGA_TARGET set to zero values in a 11g database? Does it enable automatic memory management within the SGA?
We regularly hit by ORA-4031 errors. Also, memory_target advisory (v$memory_target_advice) does not show any advisory information.
for eg:
memory_max_target = 500m
memory_target = 500m
and
sga_max_size=500m
sga_target=0

We are in the process of setting up a DR environment for our SAP and Oracle databases . The netapp and our architects came up with solution as follows .
1.Standby databases are built for all production databases.
2.The SAP file systems are replicated to the secondary site
3.The Oracle logfiles and controlfiles are replicated by netapp snap mirror every 10 mins interval
4.The database is recovered through recover standby database every 15 mins at standby site
5.Please note there is no data guard involved .
6.To test the failover , the mirror is broken .The standby controlfile is replaced with Production controlfile and Redo logs files.
7.The standby database issued a startup comnmand and it worked .
Would like to know whether the step 6 is a correct approach ? I tried to convince the architects that this will result in a very disastrous situation for us but none is listened to .
