I downloaded the 11G 64bit for windows and unzipped the files into one folder and ran the setup.exe as an administrator. It opened up the java screen and I chose, create and configure a database. Next screen I chose, Desktop Class, when I click next it dies. It does not show me teh next screen. I went to the appdata folder and saw this error but not sure what to do EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005).

O/S: Windows 7 64-bit
DB: Oracle XE 11g2 32-bit
APEX: 4.0.2
=============
Trying to upgrade APEX within an Oracle XE database installation on Windows 7. The version of APEX that came with Oracle XE is 4.0.2. Trying to upgrade to 4.1.1 and, from the SQL*Plus command-line (ie. the 'Run SQL Command' tool which comes with Oracle XE), I try to run @apexins.sql.
It starts to run momentarily, then the MS-DOS windows just closes. Can not find any install log to determine the cause.

I am not a DBA but I got assigned to support OEM at the company I work for and was sent to the OEM 12c install and upgrade class provided by Oracle. As with every class things work as designed in a classroom environment but not in the real world.
Following the same procedure I did in class I started working on the 10g to 12c 2 system upgrade. Everything went well until I reached the step to copy the existing database to the new server. The steps say to use DBCA in the existing 10g database and create database template with data. That work perfectly and it created a template about 10 gigs in size.
THe next steps the in the procedure calls for me to copy the template files to the new server 11g and use DBCA and create database using the template I created in the previous step. When DBCA gets to about 40% progress is fails with the errors below:
ORA-01092, ORA-00704 and ORA-39700.
See attached screenshot.
My environment
Source
OEM 10g 10.2.0.5.0
DB 10g 10.2.0.3.0
Target
OEM 12c
DB 11g 11.2.0.1.0

I have been trying out the new 12c on Windows 2012 Essentials with the same type of errors. The OraDim step fails and cannot create the services. It fails a bit differently if I choose "Create New Windows User", choose a "Use Existing Windows User", or choose the Windows Built-in user.

we have third party application which uses oracle database (version 10.2.0.5) on WINDOWS. Our no of process used keeps increasing by 15-20 everyday.
However number of sessions remain constant 32-35 . So in couple of days we reach our limit of max processes and DB needs to be restarted to release processes.
How to identify unwanted process ?? is it safe to kill process(windows threads) which have V$PROCESS.ADDR not equal to V$SESSION.PADDR using orakill or some other third party utility or should I use another way ??
No of sessions remains constant and currently we don't have control over application.

I am trying to trouleshoot an issue with Oracle and want to see what commands are being sent by by process. By reading the documentation it appears there is client logging to do this but I can not get it to work. I added the following commands to my SQLNET.ORA file but no log file is created:
tnsping.trace_directory = C:appproduct11.2.0client_4
etwork race
tnsping.trace_level = admin
trace_level_client = user
trace_directory_client = C:log
log_directory_client = C:log
trace_unique_client = on
trace_timestamp_client = on
Ths TNSPING works just fine it logs the information I expect. The client logging, however, never creates a file .

We have two database servers(10g with OEL 5) to be clustered and two visible disk groups to each of those nodes. So question is can we choose only one disk group as a shared storage leaving the rest one as the redundant copy during database a creation window while installing the database. Because some of us argue that oracle database has a built-in capability to decide on what level of RAID we store our data.

I have installed oracle several times in the past. This time I installed 11gr2 first time. I created default database during install and provided an admin password. Only thing I forgot to do was did not unlock the accounts using Password management button.
When I tried to login as SYS the admin password works fine but as SYSTEM admin password does not work. Used to be able to login as SYS, SYTEM with same admin password.
Now in SQLPLUS I unlocked the account but still can not change the password.

Having trouble installing Oracle 11g. After I select system class, the installer just closes out. I have re-download the software from the Oracle and made sure both files were unzipped into the same folder correctly. Searching around this forum found same problems, none of the solutions have worked so far. Tried setup -jreLoc (Location of Java), tried using it with different versions of java. If it tries to start the installer it gives an error about not being able to locate java runtime.

I created an empty database using the DB Configuration Assistant, then imported a dump file provided by a client. I believe what happened is that all of the user passwords (for SYSTEM, SYSDBA, etc.) which I had created in the DB Config Assistant were overwritten during the import process as I can no longer log into the DB.
I have attempted logging into sqlplus using the /as sysdba swith while logged in to the server as a user in the ORA_DBA role, but I still get the ORA-01031: insufficient privileges message.
I am running Oracle 11g R2 on Windows 2008 R2.

Windows 2003, DB 10.2.0.3...I have to read some files from remote folder, so on remote Windows machine I shared folder c:est (grant Everyone first, and Administrator then) and on DB Server I mapped the remote folder with letter T..All these operations were made with administrator privileges.
In Oracle I create a directory object with this command:
CREATE OR REPLACE directory T_DIR AS 'T:';
Then I granted read and write privileges to my user
GRANT READ, WRITE ON DIRECTORY T_DIR TO <user>; (I tried also to set PUBLIC and SYSTEM)
But when I try to open a file with UTL_FILE with this command
file_handler := UTL_FILE.fopen( 'T_DIR', 'Dati.ini', 'r' ) ;
the error is
Exception: ORA-29283: operazione file non valida
ORA-06512: a "SYS.UTL_FILE", line 475
ORA-29283: operazione file non valida
If I change my directory object in 'C: est' (local folder) it works correctly.I tried also restart DB while shared folders were connected but with the same result.I tried, from sqlplus, the command host (dir t:) and it works (folder is accessible)
Is it an Oracle bug? Is it a Windows bug?
