getting proper value from the file in external table.
How can I get the whole status in STATUS column like completed , Inprogress, incompleted.
Right now, if I gave position like (38:9) full status doesn't show. if I give (38:11) then '|1' is adding in status from the flat file.

im trying to create an external table, and i load my data without no problem, and everything is fine, but i got some behavior with one column that i would like to know whats behind scenes, OK let's get the example:
[*] Sample Data
Line 1:333 1111111112009100000000000080000000013450.33
Line 2:11111111111220091016000000004.48
Line 3:222222222 220091016000000004.48
Line 4:(This is a blank line left)
And this is my External Table Create Query:
CREATE TABLE EXT_TABLE_TEMP
(COL_A VARCHAR2(11),
COL_B VARCHAR2(1),
COL_C DATE,
COL_D NUMBER(12,2))
ORGANIZATION EXTERNAL
[code]....
As you can see i can upload my table with no problem but i always get 3 lines counting last blank line if i try LOAD WHEN COL_A != BLANKS, i dont know if its a problem of the blank space left between fixed fields length, but if i do LOAD WHEN COL_B != BLANKS i get correct result 2 lines instead of 3, i want to know why (missing fields...) and (reject rows...) are not working...
Note: COL_A could be 9-11 length, if length its 9 then 2 spaces left before next one...

I have to have a sequence added to a large(288 million rows) file when I load the file into the table. If I use SQL Loader I can't use direct since I have a trigger for each row for the sequence but I am not sure if an external table will be any faster since the trigger will be firing for each row also. In this scenario is one better than the other ?

I tried to find about sql loader, tried googling and ended up with Orafaq .
1) Is there a way that you can skip few records in the control file.
Assume the control file is loading a file with three records.
CREATE TABLE emp_tab
(
Emp_id NUMBER(15,0),
Name CHAR(25),
Age NUMBER(15,0)
);
The text file is like this name.txt
1;sam;19;
2;jai;22;
;pam;33;
LOAD DATA
INFILE 'C:
ame.txt'
BADFILE 'C:
ame.bad'
DISCARDFILE 'C:
ame.dsc'
APPEND
INTO emp_tab
fields terminated by ";"
TRAILING NULLCOLS
( Emp_id ,
name,
age)
I want to skip the record 3 in the text file as it has no id, is there a way to do this. Can we skip a record based on a condition?
2) What needs to be included in the control file in order to get a return code?
3) Assume the return code = 0 for success and return code = 1 for failure, what will be the return code if 60 out 100 records are loaded and 40 are discarded and written to .bad file?
4) SQL loader does a auto commit, meaning the moment you run the control file, the records are inserted and commited, is there a way to avoid it ?

Data
Sl#Emp_noNameAddress
00101Tom1/B-XYZ street
00202Jon1/C-XYZ Street
Employee Datafile
001, 01, Tom, 1/B-XYZ street
002,02,Jon, 1/C-XYZ Street
Above is a sample data file. Now I would like to import the data into an Oracle table called employee using Oracle 9i SQL Loader utility. But the table has only 3 fields (Emp_no,Name & Address), so I would like to skip Sl# while loading data. I do not want to manually modify data file. How should I write .ctl file.
Sample .ctl file.
load data
INFILE 'dataEmployee'
BADFILE 'Employee.bad'
DISCARDFILE 'Employee.dis'
into table Employee
fields terminated by ','
TRAILING NULLCOLS
(Emp_no NULLIF Emp_no = BLANKS,
Name NULLIF Name = BLANKS,
Address NULLIF Address = BLANKS
)

I just did a 112G file migration of production data using oracle_datapump so I know this works in principle. When I tried it on my test instance I am seeing stuff like this
[oracle@aggs00.test for_test]$ ls -l aggs_day_conversion_agg_2419
-rw-r----- 1 oracle oracle 15917056 Aug 10 09:06 aggs_day_conversion_agg_2419
CREATE TABLE IMP_3251198_2419(
PARTITION_DATE DATE,
USER_ID NUMBER,
SID NUMBER,
[code]....
Executed in 1800.642 seconds
why it could be taking 1800 seconds to select one record from a not very big table? File corruption? Disc fragmentation? Oracle instance configuration?

i just posted another topic where i heard about external table and i had a few questions concerning them. I thought it was best to create a new topic than to continue on the other one...
I noticed that to create an external table the CTL is like this:
CREATE TABLE emp_load (FIELDS description)
ORGANIZATION EXTERNAL (TYPE ORACLE_LOADER DEFAULT DIRECTORY ext_tab_dir
ACCESS PARAMETERS (RECORDS FIXED 62 FIELDS (employee_number CHAR(2),
[Code]...
1) This creates an external table, but, is it possible to Create a normal table in a CTL file? For physical tables, the table has to exist right?
2) if you create a view linked to 2 external tables and if the CSV files are updated each day, the external tables will be updated automatically, and the view will be updated as well?
3) Can't there be any synchronisation problems?
4) What happens if a select request (or someone requests on the view) while the CSV file is being updated?
5) Is there anyway you can protect the accesses from those tables/views when the CSVs are being updated?
6) Is it possible to create an index on these sort of tables?
7) Is it possible to index a view?
8) Are external tables visible on a tool like sql developper?

I'm working with sqlldr and i try to insert data from a csv file to a CTL file. One field of my table contains 5 characters but one row has 6 characters in this field, so it's rejected by oracle. (Logical, you can't insert 6 chars in a 5 chars field)
an error is visibly returned, so i wondered how you could catch the value of this error?is it a code? a message?
I'd like to add to my script a condition so that the end of the script would continue even if this error code is returned for that CTL execution.

I have got a procedure that successfully creates an oracle external table and populates it with the contents of a file. This works fine until I have a situation where one of the fields is a VARCHAR2(2) and I try to insert say, a 5 character value. When this happens the record in question does not get populated in the external table (and rightly so), but I could do with working out if there is a discrepancy in the number of records in the file and the number of records that actually make it into the table so I could inform the user that there is a problem.
I have attached the code that creates the external table and populates it.

I need to load data from a CSV file where one of the CSV values determines how many records should be inserted.
Example of the input data:
KEYWORD;2;REC1_COL1_X,REC1_COL2_X;REC2_COL1_X;REC2_COL2_X
KEYWORD;3;REC1_COL1_Y;REC1_COL2_Y,REC2_COL1_Y;REC2_COL2_Y;REC3_COL1_Y;REC3_COL2_Y
KEYWORD;4;REC1_COL1_Z;REC1_COL2_Z,REC2_COL1_Z;REC2_COL2_Z;REC3_COL1_Z;REC3_COL2_Z,REC4_COL1_Z;REC4_COL2_Z
If the KEYWORD is found, then the next value determines how many value pairs will follow, and therefore how many rows should be created in the affected DB table.
As a result I hope to achieve this:
SELECT Column1, Column2 FROM testTable
REC1_COL1_X,REC1_COL2_X
REC2_COL1_X;REC2_COL2_X
REC1_COL1_Y;REC1_COL2_Y
REC2_COL1_Y;REC2_COL2_Y
REC3_COL1_Y;REC3_COL2_Y
REC1_COL1_Z;REC1_COL2_Z
REC2_COL1_Z;REC2_COL2_Z
REC3_COL1_Z;REC3_COL2_Z
REC4_COL1_Z;REC4_COL2_Z
I learned how to import data using Oracle SQL loader for cases where one input line more or less matches a (new) row in a DB table.

following is the requirement
External Table
WKSHT_FILE_EXT
wksht_line
Export Table
Wksht_export
global_idvarchar2(10)
wksht_linevarchar2(250)
[code]....
Step 1.Insert all records from the external table into the export table. Truncate the export table first
Step 2.Read in a record from the export map table
Step 3.Search through export table records looking for the key words BRANCH =. Compare the branch code with the branch code form the map table
Step 4.If a match is found mark all records in the export table for the worksheet with the global ID from the export map table as follows..The first line of a worksheet is marked by the words WKSHTS..The last line of the work sheet is marked by the words COMPANY CONFIDENTIAL..We will need to capture the line break so also mark the next line after the COMPANY CONFIDENTIAL line
Step 5.Continue with Steps 2 - 4 until all records have been processed from the export map table.
first I have to create a procedure ti insert data from external table to export table.Global id will be blank.it will be updated by the mapping table's Global Id when The EB COLUMN's data(i.e 8p,2Betc ) will match with the BRANC=NA,2Betc of the datasheet loaded from the external table.. FOLLOWING IS THE SAMPLE DATASHEET
WKSHTS AAAAA BBBBBBBBBBB ELECTRONICS INC. TIME REPORT-DATE PAGE
SORT - BR, SLSREP AEC FIELD SALES REPRESENTATIVE 16:14 09/21/12 1
BRANCH = 2B
EMPLOYEE NAME SALVAAG, GREGG Days in the Month 28
[code]....
THERE ARE 2 pages..I have to split this LONG REPORT STORED IN WKSHT_LINE COLUMN OF EXPORT TABLE to 2 records..like wise 500 pages are there means 500 records.. AND THEN FIND BRANCH= after that which two words will come i.e NA,2B etc if it will MATCH WITH MAPPING TABLE"S EB COLUMN"S DATA,THEN MAPPING TABLE's GLOBAL ID WILL BE UPDATED TO EXPORT TABLE's GLOBAL ID WHICH IS BLANK

Is it possible to import a table with different table name?
We have a way around to import the table into 10g database in another schema and then push the data into our main table but want to know whether the above requirement is possible.

Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0
We are processing spatial data from another source to display in our GIS environment. The data is a set of multi lines. The gtype is 2006. A typical geometry looks like:
SDO_GTYPE 2006
SDO_SRID 31370
SDO_POINT.X NULL
SDO_POINT.Y NULL
SDO_POINT.Z NULL
SDO_ELEM_INFO (1,2,1, 7,2,1)
SDO_ORDINATES (105094.84, 195084.96,
105094.54, 195080.22,
105094.84, 195084.96,
105094.84, 195084.96,
105094.68, 195082.47 )
Now, this is not an actual multiline... it's just encoded as a multi line, but if you look at the coordinates you'll see that the end point of the first line is the same as the beginning of the second line (105094.84, 195084.96).
A better way to encode this geometry would be:
SDO_GTYPE 2002 <---
SDO_SRID 31370
SDO_POINT.X NULL
SDO_POINT.Y NULL
SDO_POINT.Z NULL
SDO_ELEM_INFO (1,2,1)
SDO_ORDINATES (105094.84, 195084.96,
105094.54, 195080.22,
105094.84, 195084.96, <---
105094.68, 195082.47 )
Is there a standard function in Oracle that does this conversion for me? Or do I have to write my own :)
