Server Administration :: Are Parallel Queries Supported In Oracle XE
Nov 18, 2010I'm not sure is parallel query supported in xe ?

View 2 RepliesOn a tab page should be displayed the result of four indifferent queries, each based on a stored procedure.At the moment, the queries are processed serially, by the statements:
GO_BLOCK('one');
CLEAR_BLOCK(No_Validate);
EXECUTE_QUERY;
GO_BLOCK('two');
CLEAR_BLOCK(No_Validate);
EXECUTE_QUERY;
Is there a way to processes the queries parallel ?
I would like to know the following.
If multiple queries are run in parallel(at the same time) against a table or a set of tables (query referencing multiple tables), does it reduce the performance.
In other words is Oracle capable of reading (selecting from) the same table multiple times in parllel.
Does parallel hint works in cursor queries? The cursor query is something like :
cursor c is
select /*+ parallel(s,8) */
from table ref_tab s ---- >>
<where condition>;
The table ref_tab hold data for a single day at any point of time and gets truncate before loading the next days data.On average the table holds around 7 million rows and doesn't contains any index (think that's fine as all together we are loading the whole set).And, we are using bulk logic with save exceptions to open the cursor and load the data into the target table.
I am using 10.2.0.4 oracle database on Solaris 10. We are running some Peoplesoft upgrade on one of the database from last 6-7 hours. The status of the session is INACTIVE from couple of hours. And the sql_id is null for these sessions.
select sid,serial#,STATUS,to_char(logon_time,'DD-MON_YY HH24:MI:SS') from v$session where username like '%&usern%' ORDER BY 4 DESC;
533 2234 INACTIVE 04-MAR_10 01:59:02
525 5919 ACTIVE 04-MAR_10 01:54:50
534 4186 INACTIVE 04-MAR_10 01:05:15
520 2320 INACTIVE 04-MAR_10 00:29:44
.....
While when i see the current sql from the v$active_session_history, it keep on changing after every 10-15 minutes. Using below query to find the sql_text for the session from v$active_session_history.
select sql_id, sql_text
from v$sql
where sql_id in (
select sql_id
from v$active_session_history
where session_id=511
.....
We have not faced issue like this during Peoplesoft upgrade. what could be the reason that the status is not changing while the base sqls keep on changing after every 10 minutes.
How to find non-indexed queries and columns that require indexes?
View 3 Replies View Relatedour system has always been running on mysql database and recently we have switched to oracle. As the current system is coded using mysql query syntax, when i run this program using oracle database, i got a error. The language that I'm using is JSP.
this is the error message:
The following query could not run on oracle. To convert these mysql queries to oracle compatible queries.
SELECT productID,productName FROM products order by productName;
select newsID,newsDate,newsHeadLine1 from news order by newsDate Desc limit 3
SELECT fuji_products.productID, productName_Display FROM products,products_availability where products_availability.productID=products.productID and (product_status='enabled' or product_status='all') AND category='12'
SELECT catID, catSub1 from category where catSub = '"+ prodCat +"' AND catSub1 is not null group by catSub1 order by catSub1
If we have not set parallel degree for a table then we can ( try to ) force parallel execution on a table using a parallel hint Does this 'parallelism' works on the index search in the query as well?
In which situations non-parallel non-partitioned table but parallel index (degree>2) will facilitate a query?
Is Oracle Failsafe 11G supported on VMWARE, we plan to create a cluster of two vm servers, is it a supported configuration?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've looked in several places, OTN, Google, various DBA forums to figure out if the way we have a client installed on a network drive is supported by Oracle - short of asking them if it's supported.
The configuration we have is a full 10g R2 client installed on a network drive, and the various environment variables (Oracle_Home, TNS_ADMIN, etc.) point to that network location for use by client machines (I'm also trying to see if the Instant client is supported on a network location as well.) We've had this set up for years which has served us well.
A co-worker remembers years ago that this set up wasn't supported, Oracle 8 or so was his thought as to what version was used then. Another coworker at an Oracle conference asked this same question and was told that it was supported, however we can't find any documentation to that effect.
Now the question arises as to whether or not using a client installed on a networked drive is a supported configuration for 10g R2 or higher, and if so, where it would be documented.
We are in the process of changing network topology and are reviewing whether this configuration is still the right thing for us or if clients should be installed locally to where they are used.
I decided to use Oracle 11g XE on Linux Mint. I read this tutorial Oracle 11gR2 Express Edition on Linux Ubuntu 11.10 howto included the seventh part. However, I did a minor change in the script given. Indeed, since Ubuntu 12.04, a bug appeared. So I use the following script :
cat > /etc/init.d/oracle-shm <<-EOF
#! /bin/sh
# /etc/init.d/oracle-shm
#

I already uninstalled and reinstalled Oracle 3-4 times, but nothing else happened. When I want to configure oracle-xe, I have a such message :

I read somewhere that Quote:PARALLEL just gives the number of parallel slaves that work on your import, so you can use it as far as you have enough io bandwith and cpu power, just try it as this is test system.
can you explain what is parallel slaves/threads here and also what is and how to determine io bandwith ?

I need to call the same procedure with different parameter multiple time in parallel.
I have job_control Table

based on the data available in table i wanted to execute a procedure 6 times
create table job_table
(now date, seq_no number)
the procedure will have one parameter as job_seq_no
create of replace procedure job_call (i_job_seq_no number)
is
begin
for i in 1.. i_job_seq_no
loop
insert into job_table
values
......
the problem is i want to do this activity in parallel , i.e. all six calls to the procedure would be parallel. and this will be one time activity.
I started datapump not using parallel option
I issued the following command
impdp t24/t24 directory=dp_dump dumpfile=bef_cob_%U.dmp schemas=t24
The total dumpfile size is 200 GB..
Now I want to add parallel process to the job..
I am creating a package. In case my package, i am want to run parallel all procedure(FillAndSend_IM1,FillAndSend_IM2,FillAndSend_IM3,FillAndSend_IM4 ) .

I was trying to delete the database in the test server. When i was deleting listener was already stopped, i continued deleting using dbca, it shown me some alert that datafiles cant be deleted because system could't find database, since listner was stopped so only service was deleted(the one showing in the windows administrator toolsservicesOracleServiceTEST).
All the datafile parameter files are still there. How can i delete the datafiles and parameter files belongs to that database or how to create the deleted service, so that i will start the listener and do the complete deleting of the database.
I am trying to find the unix process for one of my application in the database but I am unable to view the same. To simulate, I did the following.
1. My database runs on different server.
2. I invoked "sqlplus" from another unix box to login to the database.
3. I found that the process id (ps -ef |grep sqlplus).
4. When I execute the below mentioned query it does not display the process id that I am looking for. But the osuser, username, program and machine details are correct. How can I know the process details from the database?
SELECT SYS.GV_$SESSION.OSUSER, SYS.GV_$SESSION.USERNAME, SYS.GV_$PROCESS.SPID,
SYS.GV_$SESSION.MACHINE, SYS.GV_$SESSION.PROGRAM,
SYS.GV_$PROCESS.PROGRAM ,SYS.GV_$SESSION.SQL_ID
FROM
SYS.GV_$PROCESS, SYS.GV_$SESSION
WHERE
SYS.GV_$PROCESS.ADDR=SYS.GV_$SESSION.PADDR and SYS.GV_$SESSION.USERNAME='TEST'
and SYS.GV_$SESSION.MACHINE like '%hostname%'
While creating the index we are getting the error "ORA-00603: ORACLE server session terminated by fatal error".

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to connect a oracle client application on the client machine to a remote oracle server on the server machine but i get a connection fail.
On the server machine I configured oracle server in the following way:
Installed oracle server. Created a database "DB_Test" with the database configuration assistant Created a LISTNER with the Oracle NET Manager with the following parameter:
Protocol: TCP/IP HOST: server pc hostname (ENZOVAIO) or server machine address ip (192.168.0.71) in the network lan Port Number: 1521 Created "dbtest" service with the Oracle NET Manager with with the following parameter:
Service Name: "dbtest" Protocol: TCP/IP HOST: server pc hostname (ENZOVAIO) or server machine address ip (192.168.0.71) in the network lan Port Number: 1521
All services on the server machine are running and I opened port number (1521) in the router. On the client machine I installed SQL PLUS and SQL Developer.
With SQL Plus as by the official documentation I have entered the following command:
CONNECT username/password@[//]host[:port][/service_name]. In my case is:
CONNECT SYSTEM/oracledb@//ENZOVAIO:1521/testdb.
With SQL Developer I have entered the same parameter.
But with both SQLPlus and SQL Developer the connection fails.
we have oracle server. we have to connect 500+ client machine to oracle server.

We performed image copy of production Oracle server (OS and instances) to a backup server. After a few weeks, we try to restore a latest Oracle database backup from production server to backup server. As we know, Oracle instance must be unique on the network.
Even we log on to backup server and bring up the instance, I think that still point to production instance since all init file, TNSNAMES.ora and listener file are still same. If we restore the database, we will end up bring down the production instance and restore on top of productions. How to change instance name on backup server including TNSNAMES, sqlnet, listener files in order for us to restore Oracle database from production to backup server?
I recently installed Oracle 10g on my windows Xp laptop. It has become considerably slow since then. I want to start the database server only when I need it, and not every time I start my laptop. I looked around in OEM and did found a way.
