SQL & PL/SQL :: Multiple Parallel Queries Against Table
Jun 23, 2011
I would like to know the following.
If multiple queries are run in parallel(at the same time) against a table or a set of tables (query referencing multiple tables), does it reduce the performance.
In other words is Oracle capable of reading (selecting from) the same table multiple times in parllel.

On a tab page should be displayed the result of four indifferent queries, each based on a stored procedure.At the moment, the queries are processed serially, by the statements:
GO_BLOCK('one');
CLEAR_BLOCK(No_Validate);
EXECUTE_QUERY;
GO_BLOCK('two');
CLEAR_BLOCK(No_Validate);
EXECUTE_QUERY;
Is there a way to processes the queries parallel ?

Does parallel hint works in cursor queries? The cursor query is something like :
cursor c is
select /*+ parallel(s,8) */
from table ref_tab s ---- >>
<where condition>;
The table ref_tab hold data for a single day at any point of time and gets truncate before loading the next days data.On average the table holds around 7 million rows and doesn't contains any index (think that's fine as all together we are loading the whole set).And, we are using bulk logic with save exceptions to open the cursor and load the data into the target table.

If we have not set parallel degree for a table then we can ( try to ) force parallel execution on a table using a parallel hint Does this 'parallelism' works on the index search in the query as well?
In which situations non-parallel non-partitioned table but parallel index (degree>2) will facilitate a query?

I have a batch of generated SQL queries to be run.Say around 1000 update statements each updating a different table.Now to save the execution time,is it possible to run it in multiple sessions from a shell script/java .
Like having 100 queries in separate sql file and running all the file's parallel.Only thing that is problematic is if there is any error encountered in any of the queries the whole execution has to be rolled back.

My requirement is to Run 2 instances of forms 11g R2 parallel at a time(means running 2 urls of 2 instances same time). I have tried with installing 2 instances but when i install and configure my 2nd instance then my 1st instance services are shutting down.At a time it is running only one instance services.
And also i have tried with installing 2 Cluster instances of 11g R2 Forms but same thing happening as above.
how to run 2 instances of Forms 11g R2 parallel and also suggest me to install instances in same domain or different domain because with same domain 2 instances it is creating only one config file..so i tried with different domains. Different Config files created but only one instance service is running.

I have a table similar to the following,
USER, DETAILS, TYPE, UPDATED
1, user1home1, 1, 01/05/2009
1, user1home2, 1, 02/05/2009
1, user1work, 2, 03/05/2009
1, user1mobile1, 3, 04/05/2009
1, user1mobile2, 3, 05/05/2009
1, user1email, 4, 06/05/2009
1, user1other, 5 ,07/05/2009
2, user2home1, 1, 01/05/2009
2, user2home2, 1, 02/05/2009
[code]...
which contains multiple contact details for users of different types; type 1 is home, type 2 work etc. The following query returns the user's number and the latest home number for that user.
select user, details as latest_home_number from nc_test t
where type = 1
and updated = (select max(updated) from nc_test t2
where t2.user = t.user
and t2.type = t.type)
order by t.user
However I am not very experienced with sql and I am not sure how to create a view which would contain the fields:
user, latest_home_number, latest_work_number

I am trying to validate a monthly report so was trying to write queries to get different criteria into one table. So my first query returns all the product,second query returns all the enrolled customers, 3rd query returns all the cancelled customers and 4th query returns all the newly enrolled for a month. Is there a way I can pass the first query results into 1st column, 2 query results into 2nd column, 3 query results into 3rd column and so on.
I tired writing the SQL several different ways and have spent a day on it and still cannot figure it out. I am using SQL Developer.

I need to create probably two subqueries in which to reflect when a date changes. For instance, an account has a code and I need to reflect the the date the code changes...see sample below:
Account Date Code Date Changed
123 1/1/2009 ABC 1/1/2009
123 2/1/2009 ABC 1/1/2009
123 3/1/2009 XYZ 3/1/2009
123 4/1/2009 XYZ 3/1/2009
123 5/1/2009 ABC 5/1/2009
I have the one query which will return all of the dates, but I believe I need another query that will return only the dates that changed....can't seem to get that one to work at all. I believe once I do this then I can join the two queries together.

set timing on;
select 1 from dual;
select 2 from dual;
The output of the above sql file is returning the results like below which is expected:-
1
----------
1
Elapsed: 00:00:00.01
2
----------
2
Elapsed: 00:00:00.00
I want the total execution time of the two SQL queries at a time, I mean post execution of the two queries I want to know the total execution time, in this case is execution case will be 00:00:00.01.

At work we have a linux server with Oracle 10.2.0.5 g, and we have the need, to save time, to use parallel process launched in background (&) or (at now).
The table that we are going to insert is partitioned for date and subpartitioned for name of file_source, and we are having a lot of problem with this.
Our DBA staff say that is impossible to work in this way but for me, after ten year of oracle-work, sounds strange , sure may be that we don'r use really really correctly this procedure but i suppose that Oracle is able to recevie 20 ask of insert on the same table.
The situation is that we usede this procedure in other server and it's work but the answer of our DBA-staff is that we have less data storage and so on. In the end some times this proceduers have a low time of execution and some times no, this goes out of my ability to find out the problem.
We have a DWH with STAGING AREA, ODS Level, DDS Level and DM Level, the Staing area is paritionend for file_source, the ODS Area is partitioned by range (date) and subpartitioned for name (file_source), the DDS area is partitioned by range(date) and subpartitioned for Origin system(that include all the file_source) and the DM area is only partitioned by date.
So the most big problems that we meet are between the Staging are and ODS area, and between the Ods area and the DDS Area, the most important thing is that this table (DDS) is a monster of near 500.000.000 of rows (ITr of data) but we look only at the date to elaborate.
The solution is clear, divide this table in two, one online and one of storage as usually and correctly a normal situation require, but unfortunatly is a situation that we Erhedit from an old system and at the moment is not approoved the change request on this site.
The really strange thing is that sometimes work and some times not, without understand the cause of this. My opinion on this is that the DB is not correctly configured but the System Staff say that everything is correct and there are no problem. My first problem is to understand, if possible, wich is the limit of this way to operate, can i insert in a subpartition in the same time with twenty parallel process that write on same partition and different subpartition? Is correct to act in this way to save time about the data-load or better doing it one by one? On my experience i realized that Oracle can manage(is his work) a lot of request in the same time, but in this DB that we are using i continue to see problems that sounds like if we are usuing a tool that is not working in the correct way...
May be we went beyond some limit but in the end are less then 5.000.000 records per day that we move i think that a DWH have to support more than this...

I have table A with size 120 Million and two more tables are of size 2 Million on Table B and less than 1 Million size on table C.I had created Partition and Parallel degree 4 on the table A. Created table B with Parallel degree 2 and Created table C with NOPARALLEL.
My query is using above tables with joins and inserting into table D using HINT /*+ APPEND NOLOGGING*/I had executed the explain on the above criteria the cost is showing 20767.
Later created Tables A,B and C with NOPARALLEL. Applied HINT on Table D /*+ APPEND NOLOGGING*/ and als applied HINT /*+ PARALLEL(A, 4) PARALLEL(B C, 2) on select query which uses to insert into Table D.
My question which is best practice on PARALLEL degree creation at table level or query level:
a) Creating table with Paralle (degree 4)
b) Applying HINT /*+ PARALLEL (TABLE A , 4) */ at query level

our system has always been running on mysql database and recently we have switched to oracle. As the current system is coded using mysql query syntax, when i run this program using oracle database, i got a error. The language that I'm using is JSP.
this is the error message:
The following query could not run on oracle. To convert these mysql queries to oracle compatible queries.
SELECT productID,productName FROM products order by productName;
select newsID,newsDate,newsHeadLine1 from news order by newsDate Desc limit 3
SELECT fuji_products.productID, productName_Display FROM products,products_availability where products_availability.productID=products.productID and (product_status='enabled' or product_status='all') AND category='12'

'Oracle fast parallel data unload into ASCII file(s)' in this blog: URL....I have compiled the code and created the objects and the directory in my DB...But when I execute :
SELECT *
FROM TABLE(
DATA_UNLOAD(
CURSOR(
SELECT /*+ PARALLEL(A, 2, 1) */
TABLE_NAME || '|' ||
COLUMN_NAME || '|' ||
DATA_TYPE
FROM MYTABLE A
[code]....
It is supposed to return 2 rows (because of parallel execution), but it just returns 1..Do I have to do something special in order to make parallel pipelined function work

I wonder how I can limit the queries in a table? This limitation would be that from a certain time, it allows queries. Before the opening hours, permitting no select.
Example: Allow SELECTs in table only after 16 p.m.

go through both the given queries...
SELECT * FROM EMP A WHERE 1=(SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT(SAL)) FROM EMP B WHERE B.SAL>A.SAL);
SELECT * FROM EMP WHERE SAL=(SELECT MIN(SAL) FROM (SELECT DISTINCT(SAL) FROM EMP ORDER BY SAL DESC) WHERE ROWNUM<=2);
both queries will fetch second highest sal from emp table.which sorting is used by oracle in order by and group by clause.

I was trying to update the AGENTS table with the data based on queries. But all the records updates with the same data. I can't understand why.
Write a PL script to populate these columns as follows:
TRAVEL_STATUS is one of three values:
GLOBETROTTER: agent has visited five or more different locations in the course of his missions
ROVER: agent has visited between one and four locations
SLOB: agent has been on no missions.
CONTACTS is the number of targets that share the agent's home location.
some of the tables and columns are
agents table: agent_id, location_id
targets table: target_id, location_id
missions_agents table: agent_id, mission_id
missions_targets: target_id, mission_id
missions table: mission_id, location_id
My code is
DECLARE
status AGENTS.TRAVEL_STATUS%TYPE;
contact AGENTS.CONTACTS%TYPE;
CURSOR loc_cur
IS
SELECT
a.AGENT_ID id,
[code].....

Following are 2 queries, which return same results as far as the input parameter is NOT NULL
select /*+ gather_plan_statistics */ * from PX_CJQ where decode(:x,null,1,object_id) = NVL(:x,object_id);
select /*+ gather_plan_statistics */ * from PX_CJQ where object_id = NVL(:x,object_id);
However the execution plan differs a lot The FTS cost or rows accessed count also varies what could be the reason? The PX_CJQ is simply select * from dba_objects and has index on object_id which anyway is not being used in this case
variable x number
exec :x:= 28
Query - 1
***************
***************
SQL> >select /*+ gather_plan_statistics */ * from PX_CJQ where decode(:x,null,1,object_id) = NVL(:x,object_id);
SQL> >select * from table(dbms_xplan.display_cursor(NULL,NULL,'ALLSTATS LAST'));
[code]...
Query - 2
***************
***************
SQL> >select /*+ gather_plan_statistics */ * from PX_CJQ where object_id = NVL(:x,object_id);
SQL> >select * from table(dbms_xplan.display_cursor(NULL,NULL,'ALLSTATS LAST'));

so how can i form queries efficiently to fetch records like 1..5000 and 5001..10000 and so on. I can form some thing like select * from table where rownum<5000 and not exists ( already fetched records) . but it is not the efficient one.

I have a table that contains 15 columns. Say each columns contains name of fruits. And another master table which contains names of valid fruits. Now I have to create another table from these tables such that for each column if the fruit name is present in the master table then fruit-name is populated else "invalid" is populated. I know using left join for 15 times to the same master table can work. But I found this very clumsy. Is there any other way of doing it.This is just a sample case. In real scenario I have a table of 800 million records and master table of 30000 records.
