Select Query Not Fetching Records In 11g?

May 10, 2013

I have a Select query which is not fetching records in 11g (11.2.0.2.0) but working fine in 10g (10.2.0.4.0). The query is as below.

--CREATE TABLE t1 (col1 NUMBER, col2 VARCHAR2 (15 CHAR), flag varchar2(1))

--insert into t1(col1, col2, flag) values(1, 'a', 'Y');
--insert into t1(col1, col2, flag) values(2, 'b', 'N');

SELECT *
FROM t1 x
WHERE col1 = 1 AND col2 = 'a' -------------- condition1
AND 0 = -------------- condition2
NVL (
(SELECT COUNT (1)
FROM t1 y
WHERE y.flag = 'N'
AND x.col1 = y.col1
AND x.col2 = y.col2),0)--=0

When remove NVL function or change the condition by having AND NVL(SELECT) =0 the query working fine.

Precompilers, OCI & OCCI :: EXEC SELECT Query Not Fetching Record Even Though It Is Present In Database

Jun 26, 2008

I am using Pro*C/C++ Release 10.2.0.2 in HP-UX. But Pro*C/C++ application was written long back during oracle release 8. Now we are facing a problem like EXEC SELECT query is not fetching the records even though record is present in DATABASE.

This is not happening every time. This problem starts happening only after heavy use of the unix process.

For every request, unix process will fetch the record and updates the same at the end and process goes to wait mode to get the request again. Let say after 50 request, process is returned with no rows found error.

It started working fine only after restarting the process and problem starts again after 50th or 60th request. This problem we are facing only after upgrade to 10g.

SQL & PL/SQL :: Insert Records From A Select Query Into Temporary Table?

Mar 21, 2013

We are trying insert records from a select query into temporary table, some of the records is missing in the temporary table. The select statement is having multiple joins and union all which it little complex query. In simple terms the script contains 2 part 1st Part Insert in to temporary table 2nd part Select query with multiple joins, inline sub queries, unions and group by classes and conditions Eg. If we execute select statement alone it returns some count for example => 60000 After inserting into the temp table, in temp table the count is around 42000 why is the difference?

It is simple bulk inserts... insert in to temp table select * from xxx. also, there is no commit in between. The problem is all the records populated by the select statement are not inserted in to temp table. some records are not inserted.

Also, we had some other observation. It only happens in its 2nd execution and not its first run. Hope there might be some cache problem Even, we also did not believe that. We are wondering. In TOAD, we tested however at times it happens. In application jar file, after "insert in to temp select * from xxx" we take the i. record count of temp table and ii. record count of "select * from xxx" separately but both doesn't match. Match only at 1st time.

SQL & PL/SQL :: Identify / Count Records In Ref Cursor Without Actually Fetching?

CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE test_rdm_miles (
p_ref_cursor OUT SYS_REFCURSOR
p_success NUMBER)
IS
BEGIN
OPEN p_ref_cursor FOR
SELECT 5168 mem_uid,

[code]....

I have a Procedure with out parameters as a REF CURSOR and response message as p_success.This ref cursor will be returned to the calling service. Is there a way in oracle by which we can identify whether the Ref cursor holds data without actually fetching it. Since if i choose to fetch the data, i will lose one row when i return the ref cursor back to the calling service Or else is there way i can retrieve the row i lose during fetch.

Other alternative what have been suggested is create an object type ,fetch the ref cursor values in object type. Then i can use the ref cursor to return the data by table casting.

one more solution is

OPEN
FETCH
CLOSE
OPEN (AGAIN) { this will lead to redundancy)

SQL & PL/SQL :: Returning List Of Records That Do Not Have Associated Records From A Sub-query

Sep 6, 2010

I am running a query in our Clarity PPM database to return a list of all Support projects. This returns a simple list of project code and project name:

The query has the project resource tables associated with it, so I am able to list all resources allocated to the project. But for now i am only selecting a DISTINCT list of projects.

Query for anyone interested:

Select distinct
Project_code,
project_name
from
niku.nbi_project_current_facts nbip,
niku.odf_ca_project cst,
niku.prtask t,
[code]........

I have a separate query which returns a list of support resources.

select res.full_name, res.unique_name , dep.description
from niku.srm_resources res,
niku.pac_mnt_resources pac,
niku.departments dep
where res.unique_name = pac.resource_code
and pac.departcode = dep.departcode
and res.is_active = 1
and description like 'IMS%'
and UPPER(dep.description) like '%SUP%'

What I need to be able to do in the first query, is return only projects that do NOT have a resource that appears in the resource list in the second query.

(the res.unique_name field in the second query can be linked to the same in the first query)

Logically, the process would be:
1. Identify Support Project
2. Identify Resources allocated to the project team
3. Compare with List of Support Resources
4. If any Resources in that list do NOT appear on the project, then return project.

Getting Top-N Query To Work As Sub-select In Larger Query?

Mar 10, 2012

Is there a technique to getting a Top-N query to work as a sub-select in a larger query -or- is there another way to generate Top-N like results that works as a sub-select?

Background:

We have a large query that is being used to build an export from a legacy HR system to a new one. Amount the data needed in the export is the employees primary phone number.

The legacy HR system allows multiple phone numbers to be stored in a simple table structure:

SELECT emp_id, phone_type, phone_number
FROM employee_phones

emp_idphone_typephone_number
------- --------------- -------------------
46021CELL2222222222
46021HOME1111111111
46021WORK3333333333

The new HR system does allow for multiple phone numbers, however they need a primary phone number identified and stored with the employee master information. (Subsequent phone numbers get stored in alternate table.)

From a business perspective, we have decided that if they have a HOME phone in the legacy system that should be the primary in the new system, if no HOME phone, then WORK, if no WORK then CELL.

That can be represented as:

SELECT *
FROM employee_people_phones
WHERE emp_id = '46021'
ORDER BY decode(phone_type, 'HOME', 'a', 'WORK', 'b', 'CELL', 'c', 'z')

emp_idphone_typephone_number
------- --------------- -------------------
46021HOME1111111111
46021WORK2222222222
46021CELL3333333333

Or similarly with Top N concept:

SELECT *
FROM (SELECT *
FROM employee_people_phones
WHERE emp_id = '46021'
ORDER BY decode(phone_type, 'HOME', 'a', 'WORK', 'b', 'CELL', 'c', 'z')) results
WHERE ROWNUM = 1

emp_idphone_typephone_number
------- --------------- -------------------
46021HOME1111111111

Or really what I want in my export:

SELECT phone_number
FROM (SELECT phone_number
FROM employee_people_phones
WHERE emp_id = '46021'
ORDER BY decode(phone_type, 'HOME', 'a', 'WORK', 'b', 'CELL', 'c', 'z')) results
WHERE ROWNUM = 1

phone_number
-------------------
1111111111

However, when the Top-N query is added as a sub-select in a larger query using the employee id from the larger query (WHERE emp_id = export.emp_id), it fails saying that export.emp_id is not a valid id.

(SELECT phone_number
FROM (SELECT phone_number
FROM employee_people_phones
WHERE emp_id = export.emp_id
ORDER BY decode(phone_type, 'HOME', 'a', 'WORK', 'b', 'CELL', 'c', 'z')) results
WHERE ROWNUM = 1)

1.Any way around this? Is it possible to put a Top-N (with a WHERE clause using data from the main query) in a sub-select?

2.Any alternatives (other than Top-N) to delivering a ROWNUM=1 result with a custom ORDER BY statement?

Other Notes: Yes, we know we could do two queries in the data conversion first deliver the bulk data to the target table, and then update with the phone numbers. However, for multiple reasons, that is less than desirable.

SQL & PL/SQL :: Inserting Multiple Records With CLOB Using Select

Oct 11, 2013

I'm updating a large piece of legacy code that does the following type of insert:

INSERT INTO foo_temp

We're changing varchar2_column to clob_column to accommodate text entries > 4000 characters. So I want to change the insert statement to something like:

INSERT INTO foo_temp
(id, clob_column)
SELECT id, clob_column
FROM foo;

This doesn't work, since clob_column stores the location of each text entry, rather than the actual content. But is there some way that I can achieve the insert with one call to a select statement, or do I need to select each individual record in foo, open the clob_column value, read it into a local variable and then write the content to the matching record in foo_temp?
